Chapter 565 Reproach
Seeing that Susan was still troubled, Seb held her shoulders gently and said, "Susan, I've been thinking a lot these days and have come to many realizations."
"What have you realized?" Susan asked, meeting his gaze.
Seb replied, "We young people value the freedom to marry and hope to have a compatible partner to accompany us for life. But our parents' generation should also have their own emotional lives. Just as our parents couldn't influence our marriages, we can't influence theirs. So, it's better to let things take their natural course. Of course, my mom is the victim in this situation, so if any conflicts arise in the future, I'll probably side with her."
Seb's words were sincere, and hearing his thoughts, Susan felt a sense of relief.
Previously, she was afraid that their parents' issues would affect their relationship, which was a terrible feeling. Now that he had figured it out, it was naturally the best outcome.
Then, Susan lay on Seb's shoulder and playfully said, "It's a good thing you figured it out, or you would have continued ignoring me, right?"
Hearing her somewhat resentful words, Seb stroked Susan's long hair and looked out the window, smiling. "Haven't you also been ignoring me for a while?"
"I did not! I specially made beef vegetable soup and brought it to your office, but you brushed me off, said you had a date and rushed out. Did you think I wouldn't notice you trying to get rid of me?" Susan lifted her head suddenly, staring at Seb and questioning him.
"The beef vegetable soup you made was quite good, but you lied. How could you say it was Kathy who made it for me?" Seb looked at Susan with amusement.
Hearing this, Susan blushed but then admitted openly, "Who else would care about you as much as I do? I just..."
"Just what?" Seb pinched her chin and asked.
"I was just afraid that if I expressed my true feelings and you didn't appreciate it, I wouldn't be able to handle it. And, of course, there's a bit of pride involved; I didn't want you to get too smug," Susan said, looking at Seb and revealing her true feelings.
Hearing this, Seb dropped all his pretense and pride, pulling her into his arms and rubbing his chin against her forehead. "I drank the soup; it was indeed delicious. I didn't eat lunch that day and finished all the soup in the thermos."
Hearing this, Susan immediately looked up at him. After hesitating for a moment, she started hitting his chest with her fists.
"You jerk! You loved it, and I spent the whole afternoon thinking you hated my guts!" Susan cursed while hitting him.
Seb let her hit him until she was out of breath, then grabbed her hand. "Done?"
"No!" Susan said defiantly, raising her chin.
Seb stared at her for a moment, then suddenly picked her up horizontally.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Feeling herself lifted off the ground, Susan quickly wrapped her arms around his neck, afraid of falling.
Seb carried her upstairs, looking at her with a mischievous smile. "Since you haven't had enough, I'll take you upstairs to continue. You can keep hitting and cursing me."
Seeing the ambiguity in his eyes, Susan stammered, "Why should I go upstairs to hit and curse you? I can do that downstairs."
"I'm afraid you'll get tired. It's better to do it on the bed," Seb said with a wicked smile.
Seeing that smile, Susan understood his intentions all too well.
So, the next moment, she blushed and said, "I knew you were up to no good."
As she spoke, he had already carried her into the master bedroom.
He gently placed her on the bed, then looked at her with a suggestive gaze.
Susan, understanding his meaning, blushed and said, "Don't you dare do anything rash!"
Seb sat beside her, frowning. "You're my wife. Whatever I do with you can't be considered rash, right?"
With that, Seb leaned in to kiss her.
Susan quickly covered his mouth with her hand and said, "You've been ignoring me for so many days and even went abroad alone. Do you think I'm the kind of woman you can control at will?"
At this, Seb smiled and hugged Susan, saying, "You're my wife, the one who will always be waiting for me to come home!"
With that, he pulled her down onto the bed with him.
Susan pushed him away, saying, "I don't want to be the one who always waits. I hate waiting the most."
At this, Seb grabbed her hair and said seriously, "Susan, I'm sorry. I won't make you wait anymore."
Seeing the sincerity in his eyes, Susan's heart softened.
"Did your mom ask you to divorce me?" Susan suddenly remembered what Rylee had said earlier.
Hearing this, Seb's eyes flickered. "What she wants and what I do are different things. But my mom was deeply hurt this time, so please don't hold it against her."
"I know it was my mom's fault this time. I understand, so I won't blame her," Susan said sincerely.
"My dad is also at fault; it's not just one person's responsibility," Seb said.
"I also have a selfish wish. I hope my mom can find happiness because her life has been so hard," Susan said, her eyes reddening.
"This is not something we can interfere with. What happens in the future depends on them. Also, you don't need to feel particularly guilty. After all, your mom is your mom, and you are you. This matter has nothing to do with you directly," Seb said.
"Seb, do you really think so?" Susan was touched and reached out to touch his face.
"My dad has been lonely since he retired, with no work to comfort him. He and my mom haven't had the easiest marriage. He used to leave early and come home late, and now that he has nothing to do, he needs someone to fill that void. It just so happens that the woman he met is your mom," Seb said.
"Seb, I'm still sorry. But don't worry, my mom has already promised not to see your dad again until your parents are divorced," Susan said.
