Chapter 402 Driven Mad

"Not a single flower basket? This is so embarrassing; they're totally gonna laugh at us," Isabella grumbled.

Susan glanced up and saw Amelia, all decked out, standing at the entrance, greeting guests. The place was practically drowning in flower baskets, like a floral explosion.

Of course, Amelia threw them a few snarky looks, clearly mocking them.

Susan pressed her lips together and said, "Who cares what they do? Let's just handle our own stuff."

With that, she turned back towards the office. Isabella and Maria, looking bummed, followed her back to their seats.

Just then, someone walked in, followed by a bunch of delivery guys hauling flower baskets. There were so many people, they couldn't all fit inside, and the hallway got packed real quick.

"Mr. Johnson?" Isabella blurted out when she saw Leon.

Hearing this, Susan turned around and, sure enough, there was Leon, looking sharp in a black suit, standing right in front of her.

Leon grinned as he walked over and handed Susan a card. "Mr. Anderson knew your firm was opening today, so he sent me with these flower baskets."

Susan took the card from Leon and read the fancy handwriting: [Wishing my dearest success in your career and all the best.]

Seeing those words, Susan felt a pang in her heart.

They hadn't seen much of each other lately, so she hadn't told Seb about the firm's opening. She didn't want him to make a big deal out of it.

But he found out anyway and sent Leon with all these flower baskets.

Looking up, she saw the hallway outside filled with huge, vibrant flower baskets, totally outshining the smaller ones across the way.

Isabella ran outside to check it out and came back all excited. "Susan, there are so many flower baskets outside! I counted fourteen!"

"Seven pairs, symbolizing perfection and blessings," Leon explained.

"That's such a sweet meaning!" Everyone's faces lit up with joy.

Only Susan felt a mix of emotions, but she kept her cool and smiled at Leon. "Please thank Mr. Anderson for me."

Leon, getting Susan's vibe, smiled and said, "It's better if you thank him yourself."

Susan didn't respond to that.

Leon then looked around and said, "My job here is done. I got other stuff to handle, so I'll head out."

With that, Leon turned and left.

After seeing Leon off, Susan glanced up and saw Amelia standing at the entrance across the way.

Amelia, arms crossed, was fiddling with her nails and sneered, "Wow, I really admire your skill at keeping such a rich guy thinking about you all these years!"

Susan didn't want to argue and turned to leave.

But Amelia wouldn't let it go and kept on loudly, "Seems like your body's pretty valuable. Living with him, he opens a firm for you and sends fourteen flower baskets, but anyway, he still won't marry you!"

Susan was already touchy about this. She didn't want to give Amelia the time of day, but she couldn't just let her keep running her mouth.

Stopping dead in her tracks, Susan turned and shot Amelia a cold smile. "Too bad you keep throwing yourself at Ethan, hoping to shack up with him, but he dodges you like the plague, scared you'll cling to him!"

Susan's words hit Amelia right where it hurt. Amelia had real feelings for Ethan, but he avoided her like the plague and now had a new girlfriend. Amelia was fuming!

Amelia's face went pale. Susan had never seen Amelia so embarrassed; she always thought Amelia was shameless. Seeing her blush with shame was pretty satisfying.

Amelia could only stomp her foot and angrily shout, "Susan, it ain't over!"

With that, she turned and stormed off.

Seeing Amelia leave in a huff, Susan didn't feel any happier.

At that moment, Isabella walked up to Susan, watching Amelia's retreating back. "Only you can handle her. That crazy chick goes nuts whenever she sees you, like you owe her a huge debt from a past life."

"If it were a debt, it could be repaid. Now we're mortal enemies, and this grudge will probably last until one of us kicks the bucket," Susan said, then turned and went into her office.

Sitting at her desk, holding the card Leon had given her, Susan's mind was filled with those fancy words.

As a woman, she actually felt some sympathy for Amelia. It seemed that whenever feelings were involved, women were the ones who got hurt.

Susan thought about sending Seb a message to thank him but decided it wasn't necessary. She didn't want to play games with him. Since he had someone more suitable, she would find the right time to step back. She wouldn't use their two kids as leverage to force him; she despised that.

Her top priority now was to make the firm successful, to secure a good future for her and her kids.

So, Susan tossed the card into a corner of her drawer, not wanting to be distracted by feelings.

Just as she started working, the newly installed landline phone rang.

"Hello, Susan Accounting Firm," Susan answered, her voice soft and pleasant.

"Susan, congrats on your grand opening," a familiar female voice came from the other end.

"Who is this..." Susan didn't recognize the voice right away.

"Have you forgotten my voice after just a few days?" the voice laughed.

Susan then realized it was Linda.

"Linda, I'm sorry. I've been so swamped lately that I didn't recognize you," Susan quickly said with a smile.

Linda stopped laughing and said, "It's normal to be overwhelmed when starting a business. I'll keep it short and not take up too much of your time. I have two cases here. They're small clients, and now Pioneer Accounting Firm is super busy, so we can't take them on. I'll refer these two clients to you."

Hearing this, Susan was overjoyed. "Linda, thank you so much!"

"But you have to guarantee quality. I've vouched for you to the clients," Linda said with a smile.

"Of course, you can count on me," Susan promised confidently before hanging up.
