Chapter 730 Still Not Happy
"Don't touch me!" When Seb's hand brushed against Susan's body, she instinctively pushed him away, her voice becoming incredibly sharp.
Seeing Susan's intense reaction, Seb's hand froze in mid-air, his eyes filled with guilt as he looked at her.
Susan couldn't believe it. He had included her in his plans without considering her feelings or how heartbroken she would be. As long as she could help him achieve his goals, he didn't care about the pain she would endure in the process.
Suddenly, it felt as if Susan's heart had been slashed open, with bright red blood pouring out, leaving her utterly disheartened and despondent.
"Susan, I had no choice." Susan's hollow, pained expression left Seb feeling utterly helpless.
"No choice?" Susan scoffed, her voice hollow. "So, in your eyes, I'm just a pawn to be sacrificed? As long as you win the game, it doesn't matter if I'm broken in the process?"
Even though they were divorced, Susan had always believed that Seb loved her and that she was irreplaceable to him.
But hearing his words, Susan felt utterly disillusioned. It turned out she had overestimated her importance; she was nothing more than that to him.
At this moment, Seb was still eager to explain. "Susan, please listen to me, okay?"
"What else is there to say?" Susan sneered, staring at him.
Seb urgently said, "Susan, I know I must have hurt you this time. I've been feeling guilty these past few days, but I had so much to handle. I knew I couldn't explain everything in a few words, so I worked day and night to get everything done and then rushed to this office building to wait for you. I bought you your favorite lilies. I've been waiting for you in the cold downstairs for over an hour. Look, the flowers are already wilted!"
Susan glanced at Seb. The flowers were indeed wilted, and Seb didn't look much better. His hair was disheveled, and he looked exhausted, with bloodshot eyes.
Susan knew he hadn't had it easy these past few days, but she couldn't soften her heart. She couldn't accept being treated like a pawn in his plans.
"I know it means nothing compared to your pain," Seb continued, his voice raw. "Please, Susan, don't shut me out. Yell at me, hit me, anything... just don't look at me like that. Please, forgive me."
Susan glanced at Seb and said firmly, "You didn't actually do anything wrong, so there's nothing to forgive. You're well-suited to be a businessman, and you're indeed a very successful one. I wish you prosperity and thriving business in the future!"
With that, Susan turned and walked away.
Seb frowned and grabbed Susan's arm. "Susan!"
Susan didn't want to deal with him. She forcefully shook off his hand without even looking at him and walked away quickly.
Watching Susan's figure disappear into the night, Seb's brows furrowed tightly.
The next morning, Susan sat at her desk, buried in work.
Her phone on the desk kept ringing. At first, she would glance at the flashing number on the screen, but later she didn't even bother because it was always the same number calling.
Seeing that she wasn't answering, Seb started sending texts and emails. He used every possible way to contact Susan, but she still ignored him.
This time, Seb had truly broken Susan's heart. She had made up her mind to end things once and for all since there was nothing left between them.
Around noon, Isabella walked into Susan's office with a large bouquet of lilies.
Susan looked up and frowned at the sight of the huge bouquet in Isabella's arms.
Seeing Susan's expression, Isabella smiled and said, "Seb sent you such a big bouquet, and you're still not happy?"
"Throw it out!" Susan said without a second thought.
"Throw it out? Such beautiful flowers, wouldn't it be a waste?" Isabella said, looking down at the flowers in her arms.
"If you like them, take them," Susan said angrily.
"Seb sent them to you, not to me. How could I possibly take them?" Isabella replied.
Seeing the flowers annoyed Susan. The next moment, she stood up, grabbed the bouquet from Isabella's arms, and walked out.
At the trash can by the door, Susan threw the flowers in heavily and then returned to her office.
Seeing Susan's swift actions, Isabella couldn't help but say, "Are you really not going to forgive Seb this time? He had his reasons..."
"Did he send you to plead for him? How much did he pay you?" Susan interrupted before Isabella could finish.
"I didn't take a single cent. Don't accuse me!" Isabella quickly explained.
Hearing this, Susan knew she shouldn't take her anger out on Isabella. She calmed herself down and leaned back in her chair, feeling exhausted.
Seeing that Susan seemed to have calmed down, Isabella sat across from her desk, quietly keeping her company.
After a long while, Susan looked at Isabella. "Why aren't you saying anything? This isn't like you."
"Seeing you upset makes me upset too," Isabella said, frowning.
Hearing this, Susan's anger dissipated.
Over the years, Isabella had been a friend who laughed and cried with her, closer than family. She meant well.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have taken it out on you," Susan said, rubbing her face.
After a while, Isabella said, "I know you're hurting, but you can't entirely blame Seb for this. Andrew is too cunning. Seb could have lost everything if he wasn't careful. He had no choice but to play along."
"I know the situation was urgent at the time. But it's been several days now. Why didn't he explain sooner? Didn't he know how heartbroken I've been these past few days?" Susan's eyes reddened with grievance.
At this point, Isabella frowned and said, "Susan, do you know what kind of days Seb and Leon have been going through these past few days?"
Hearing this, Susan looked at Isabella, sensing there was more to her words. "What do you mean?"
