Chapter 804 Children Speak Without Reservation
Afterwards, Manuel and Hugo were cracking jokes left and right, while Seb mostly just listened and chimed in every now and then.
After breakfast, Seb and Susan said their goodbyes.
On the drive back, Seb and Susan held hands the whole way.
Outside, it was still a winter wonderland, with snow blanketing the trees along the road, making everything look like a scene from a postcard.
"Manuel and Hugo joke around a lot; don't take it personally," Seb suddenly said.
Susan couldn't help but laugh. "Oh, do you usually joke around with them like that too?"
"Not often," Seb replied after thinking for a moment.
"So, you do sometimes?" Susan pressed.
"Of course, we've been friends for so many years," Seb said, spreading his hands.
Susan pouted and said, "Then why were you pretending just now? You were just too embarrassed to joke around in front of me, right?"
"You're so smart, I can't hide anything from you," Seb said, giving her hand a squeeze.
Susan smiled but then her expression turned serious.
"What's wrong?" Seb asked, frowning when he saw her suddenly looking unhappy.
"I miss Hayden and Spring," Susan said, resting her head on Seb's shoulder.
Seb was silent for a moment, then said, "I miss them, too."
"I don't know why, but even though I've only been away from them for one night, I really miss them and want to see them soon," Susan said, lying on his shoulder and expressing her feelings.
Seb turned to the driver and said, "Drive a bit faster."
"Yes, sir," the driver replied, speeding up.
Half an hour later, Seb and Susan walked through the front door of their villa.
It was the weekend, so Hayden and Spring were both at home.
Seeing Seb and Susan return together, Kathy was momentarily stunned, then said happily, "Mr. Anderson, Ms. Wilson, you're back?"
"Yep," Seb nodded.
Kathy kept smiling at Susan.
Susan naturally understood why and felt a bit embarrassed.
When Hayden saw Seb and Susan, he smirked and said, "Kathy, I told you that as soon as Mommy took action, Daddy would come back in shame, but you didn't believe me!"
Susan frowned, realizing that Kathy and Hayden must have discussed their argument.
Seb walked over and patted Hayden's head, saying with a wry smile, "What do you mean by 'in shame'? That's not right."
"What's not right?" Hayden asked, looking up at Seb with wide eyes.
Seb thought for a moment and said, "You should say I happily came back with your mommy."
Hayden pouted and then ran to Susan, hugging her waist and looking up with a smile. "Mommy, Daddy feels embarrassed. I'm going to my room to do my homework!"
With that, Hayden turned and ran to his room.
"That little brat, daring to tease me!" Seb said, watching Hayden close the bedroom door, shrugging.
Susan knew that Seb felt a bit awkward in front of Kathy and Mary.
But she didn't care; after all, he had been the one smashing plates like a madman that day!
"Where's Spring?" Susan suddenly remembered and looked around.
"Yeah, where's Spring?" Seb echoed, puzzled.
Mary pointed to Spring's room and said softly, "Mr. Anderson, Spring ran into her room as soon as she heard you were back. I think she's still scared from last time."
Susan frowned at this.
Seb's eyes showed a hint of regret.
Susan then took Seb's hand and said, "Let's go see her?"
"Okay," Seb nodded.
Seb surely regretted scolding Spring so harshly that day. After all, Spring was just a four-year-old girl, usually timid and easily scared.
Susan gently pushed open the door and saw Spring standing by the bed, clutching a doll with fear in her eyes.
Seeing Spring's timid expression, Susan's heart ached.
Turning around, Susan saw Seb looking awkward and said, "Just comfort her, and she'll be fine."
"Okay," Seb nodded.
Susan led Seb to the bed and gently called, "Spring?"
Spring looked up and smiled at Susan, but when she saw Seb, she immediately started crying.
Spring rubbed her eyes and backed away.
Seeing Spring's reaction, Seb frowned deeply.
Susan felt heartbroken and picked up Spring, comforting her, "Spring, don't cry. Be good, okay?"
"Mommy, I'm scared!" Spring said, looking at Seb with frightened eyes.
Glancing at Seb, Susan stroked Spring's head and said, "Spring, be good. Don't be scared. Daddy is the person who loves you the most. He won't scold you again."
"Mommy, let's go, let's go!" Spring was just a terrified child, so she wouldn't listen to Susan. She pointed toward the door, insisting they leave.
Susan was at a loss and turned to Seb for help.
Seb frowned and tried to hug Spring, but she clung to Susan's neck and wouldn't let go.
With no other option, Seb patted Spring's back and said, "Spring, I was wrong. I won't scold you again."
"Daddy smashing things is so scary!" Spring said, not even looking at Seb.
Susan couldn't help but laugh and gave Seb a look. "Did you hear that? Will you dare to smash things again?"
Seb quickly admitted his mistake, saying, "I won't dare to do it again."
Susan smiled.
Seeing him looking so helpless and pitiful, she comforted Spring, "Spring, Daddy said he'll take you to the amusement park this afternoon and buy you a new doll. Do you want to go?"
"Yes!" Spring immediately shouted.
Susan smiled and said, "Then let Daddy hold you, okay?"
Hearing that Seb would hold her, Spring frowned and didn't say anything.
"If you don't let Daddy hold you, how can he take you to the amusement park?" Susan continued to persuade her.
Spring, though unhappy, turned to Seb and extended her arms, indicating she wanted to be held.
Seeing that Spring finally agreed to let him hold her, Seb excitedly picked her up and spun her around in the air!
