Chapter 999 Sulking

Isabella's words were already pretty harsh, practically giving Bronte no respect at all.

But Bronte didn't get mad. Instead, she smirked and said, "Just because Leon didn't like me before doesn't mean he won't now. And I'm not the only one who wants to take your place. You better stay on your toes!"

Bronte was here to stir the pot today. Isabella stepped forward, her face pale with anger, and her words got even sharper. "Bronte, you better shut up, or don't blame me for not holding back!"

Seeing Isabella was already fuming and losing her cool, Bronte said, "Isabella, let me remind you, you're Mrs. Johnson now. Don't do anything that doesn't suit your status, or it'll be Leon who looks bad!"

If it weren't for the setting, with Isabella's temper, she would've slapped Bronte by now.

Isabella glanced around. Sure enough, their voices were getting loud, and both she and Bronte looked upset, drawing some attention.

Today's event really didn't allow for any slip-ups. Otherwise, not only would Leon look bad, but she'd also be criticized.

Seeing Isabella didn't make a move, Bronte sneered and said, "Excuse me!"

With that, Bronte turned and walked away.

Isabella's eyes followed Bronte, watching her chat with those politicians and big shots, being all charming and sociable. Isabella felt super uncomfortable.

Because Bronte was right, she really couldn't help Leon in his career. Her background and smarts couldn't bring any glory to Leon. Looking at the scene before her, Isabella felt she really didn't belong in high society.

Not long after, Leon came over, put his arm around Isabella's shoulder, and asked gently, "Why are you standing here alone? Why not go chat with someone?"

Hearing Leon's voice, Isabella looked up and met his eyes, which were very calm.

Isabella couldn't help but frown. She thought, 'What is Leon thinking? Why didn't he tell me about growing up with Bronte? Doesn't he know I've always been bothered by Bronte's attention towards him?'

"Who do you think I can chat with here? Bronte?" Isabella suddenly said stiffly.

Seeing the obvious displeasure on her face, Leon frowned, hesitated for a moment, and then asked in a low voice, "Did you see Bronte?"

"Do you think I'm blind?" Isabella stared at Leon and shot back.

Seeing Isabella's mood was off, Leon quickly said, "Bronte is now the Vice President of Johnson Corporation..."

"And she grew up with you, right?" Isabella cut him off.

He had hidden it so well from her. If Bronte hadn't mentioned it herself today, Isabella couldn't have imagined that Bronte and Leon had such a history.

"Isabella, I'll explain this to you when we get home, okay?" Leon looked around and lowered his voice as much as possible.

"I'm not feeling well. I want to go home now," Isabella turned her face away and said coldly.

Leon's nervousness was clear to Isabella. If he had nothing to hide, why would he be so nervous?

Hearing this and seeing Isabella's firm stance, Leon said in a negotiating tone, "I have to give a speech in five minutes. How about this: after my speech, I'll go home with you, okay? It won't take long."

"Didn't you hear me? I want to go home now!" Isabella said firmly.

Leon hesitated for a moment, then softened his voice. "Let me have the driver take you home first. I'll be there soon, okay?"

With a sullen face, Isabella snorted and walked towards the exit. Leon waved to a man in a suit nearby, and the driver immediately followed her.

Isabella stormed out of the hotel, and the driver quickly caught up, respectfully saying, "Mrs. Johnson, please wait a moment. I'll bring the car around right away."

"Okay," Isabella responded, not wanting to make things difficult for the driver, even though she was still fuming.

The car arrived quickly and the driver opened the back door for Isabella to get in before driving off.

When Isabella got home, her anger hadn't cooled down one bit.

She couldn't understand why Leon had kept the whole Bronte thing from her and suspected there was more to their past.

The more Isabella thought about it, the more upset she got. She couldn't believe that after finally reuniting with him, this was happening. She was beyond frustrated.

"Mrs. Johnson, why are you back so early? Where's Mr. Johnson? Why are you alone?" Kathy asked, puzzled, seeing Isabella return.

Seeing Kathy, Isabella paused, then touched her head and said, "I suddenly have a headache, so I came back early."

"You just gave birth less than two months ago. Your body must still be weak. I'll make some soup for you tomorrow. By the way, Milo was crying a lot just now. The nanny is in the room trying to calm him down. He must be hungry," Kathy said.

Hearing Milo crying, Isabella couldn't think of anything else and quickly ran to her bedroom.

Sure enough, Milo was still crying in the nanny's arms.

Isabella frowned, then quickly stepped forward and said, "Give him to me."

Holding Milo in her arms, Isabella quickly pulled up her dress and fed him.

Sure enough, with milk to drink, Milo stopped crying immediately.

Looking down at Milo in her arms, Isabella couldn't help but feel a wave of sadness.

In the evening, Milo fell asleep.

Isabella looked up at the clock on the wall. It was almost ten o'clock, and Leon, who had promised to come home soon, still hadn't returned.

Feeling exhausted, Isabella walked into the dressing room and saw her reflection in the mirror.

Although her outfit was still decent, turning around revealed some flab around her waist, making her frown.

Bronte's words at the party still echoed in her ears, lingering for a long time.

Isabella stared at her reflection in the mirror for a long time before dejectedly taking off her clothes and throwing them aside.

After changing into her pajamas, Isabella walked out of the dressing room.

Just as she stepped out, she saw Leon approaching.

Isabella glanced at him and then turned to enter the bedroom.

But Leon grabbed her wrist. "What's wrong with you? Is it because you saw Bronte?"

"Didn't you say you'd come home right after your speech?" Isabella looked up at the drunken Leon and asked.
