Chapter 211 Stunned
Susan looked up again and saw George walking into the courtyard with a lot of bags, heading towards her bedroom.
Seeing this, Susan went forward to open the door for George.
George was wearing a gray casual down jacket, and as soon as he walked in, Susan could feel a gust of cold wind he brought in.
"Look what I brought you," George said excitedly, placing the bags on the sofa.
"What is it?" Susan asked curiously as she walked over.
Looking down at the patterns and words on the shopping bags, Susan was stunned.
Because they were all baby items like bottles, baby pillows, diapers, baby capes, and disposable diapers, everything was there.
Seeing these things, Susan felt a strange flutter in her heart. She reached out, picked up a baby bottle, and examined it closely, feeling deeply moved.
Actually, Susan had thought about preparing these things, but she was only seven months pregnant and felt it was still early, so she planned to ask George to take her shopping for these items in a month.
Susan's plan was to give birth at a hospital in Maple Valley, hire a nanny, and rent a cheap hotel room. She would stay until the baby was a month old, then she could take the baby home.
Susan knew Catherine would definitely be angry, but when she saw the baby in her arms, Catherine would surely forgive her. If not, she would kneel and apologize to Catherine, who had a soft heart and wouldn't ignore her.
But now, George had thought of it first. He was a man, and it was hard for him to go to the mall to buy these things.
Susan was really touched. He had done so much for her, yet she couldn't repay him at all.
"Hey, what's wrong?" George saw that Susan's eyes were wet and waved his hands anxiously.
Susan quickly turned around to wipe her tears, then looked up and smiled, "It's nothing, I just think these things are so cute!"
"Of course, I didn't know if you're having a boy or a girl, so I bought neutral colors based on the sales clerk's suggestion. Both boys and girls can wear them," George said as he showed Susan the capes and baby clothes.
Susan glanced at them, choking up a bit. "George, I really don't know what to say. You've thought of everything for me."
At this point, Susan couldn't continue, and George quickly said, "If you don't know what to say, then don't say anything. Just don't cry! I never know what to do when women cry. Please, no tears, or my grandma will think I bullied you!"
"If Saskia sees it, I'll explain for you," Susan said, looking up at the ceiling, trying to control her emotions.
"I'll go check on Grandma," George said, feeling a bit awkward, and quickly left.
Susan was left alone, sitting on the bed, looking at and playing with the baby clothes.
Although there were only four people in the courtyard, including George, this New Year felt very fulfilling and grand.
The New Year's Eve dinner was exquisite and delicious. George told many jokes to make Saskia laugh, and Brenda shared a lot of local news. The four of them ate, laughed, and watched TV together. Susan felt the warmth of home.
Time flew by, and soon the weather started to warm up.
After dinner, Saskia called Susan to her room.
"Saskia, do you have something to say to me?" Susan asked, holding her already high belly with a smile.
Saskia reached out and touched Susan's belly, kindly asking, "How long until your due date?"
"One more month," Susan replied.
Looking down at her belly, Susan smiled happily. The baby was very active, especially at night, kicking her before falling asleep.
Hearing this, Saskia nodded, then turned to the wardrobe, opened it, and took out a bag.
Susan watched in surprise as Saskia placed the bag on the bed, then sat down and slowly opened it.
As soon as the bag was opened, Susan was attracted by the cartoon-patterned fabric inside. It was really beautiful, with patterns from children's favorite cartoons.
"What is this?" Susan slowly walked over.
Saskia looked up and smiled, "My old eyes are failing me. I stayed up several nights to make these little quilts. They're not as good as the ones I made when I was younger, but you can make do with them."
Hearing this, Susan was flattered. She touched the soft little quilts, feeling very moved.
No wonder Saskia hadn't been watching TV these past few nights, saying she was tired and needed to rest early.
Susan hadn't thought much of it, but she noticed that Saskia's room light was on late at night. She thought Saskia was reading, but it turned out she was sewing little quilts for the baby.
Looking up at Saskia wearing reading glasses, Susan felt a lump in her throat. After all, Saskia was over seventy, and staying up late was really hard on her body, especially since they weren't even related.
"What's wrong, don't you like them? If you don't, I'll keep them for George's kids," Saskia pretended to be angry when Susan didn't speak for a long time.
Hearing this, Susan quickly picked up the bag and smiled, "How could I not like them? You can make more for George's kids later. These are for my baby!"
Saskia smiled, her wrinkles deepening, but her tone was happy. "Who knows if George's kids will be that lucky!"
"Of course, they will be lucky! George's kids will definitely be blessed by you," Susan quickly said.
Hearing this, Saskia smiled and said, "I'm almost eighty this year, and George doesn't even have a steady girlfriend yet. Who knows when he'll have kids? By then, I might not be around."
Hearing this sad remark, Susan quickly comforted her, "Saskia, you're still in good health. George might have a steady girlfriend soon!"
"I know my own situation. I'm tired, you should go," Saskia suddenly lost interest and waved Susan away.
Seeing Saskia's face darken, Susan didn't dare say more. She hugged the bag and left Saskia's room.
In the afternoon, the sun was warm. Susan couldn't sleep, so she went out for a walk.
Following the babbling brook, Susan walked slowly, holding her high belly. She was thinking about the upcoming birth in a month. To avoid panic later, she needed to plan everything now and not trouble George.
Susan was lost in her thoughts when she suddenly heard the sound of a car behind her. She turned around and saw a black car speeding past her, scaring her!
Then she heard a screech of brakes, and the car suddenly stopped in front of her!
