Chapter 547 Unable to Breath
Catherine felt utterly humiliated by the gossip and pointing fingers of those people. She reached out to pry Susan's hand off her.
Susan frowned, she knew she couldn't hold on much longer.
Consumed by her emotions, Catherine was a hair's breadth from tumbling into the water below.
The next moment, Susan suddenly started to climb over the railing too. "Mom, I don't want to live either. Why don't I die with you?"
Hearing this and seeing Susan actually trying to climb over the railing, Catherine panicked. "What are you doing? You have Hayden and Spring! You can't throw your life away! You..."
Taking advantage of Catherine's distraction, Susan suddenly hugged her tightly and used all her strength to pull her back over the railing.
Maybe she used too much force, and they both lost their balance, falling to the ground together!
At that moment, Catherine realized that Susan had said that on purpose to distract her and pull her back.
Susan suddenly hugged Catherine and cried. "Mom, we got through those tough years, didn't we? Why would you want to die now that things are better? There's nothing in this world that can't be solved. Mom, you can't leave me like this. I, Susan, swear here; if you dare to end your life, I won't live either. I'll follow you. You want to escape? Fine, but I'm coming with you!"
"You...you're impossible," Catherine was at a loss for words and didn't dare to act impulsively anymore.
Then, Catherine hit Susan's back twice. "You're always threatening me, aren't you?"
Seeing Catherine's expression, Susan knew she wouldn't try to jump into the river and smiled. "Mom, what can I say? You raised a tough daughter."
"There's really nothing I can do with you!" Catherine let out a long sigh.
At this moment, Susan looked up and saw a crowd of people watching them.
Susan waved her hand and said, "What are you looking at? Haven't you seen a mother and daughter reunite before?"
The crowd shook their heads and dispersed.
Just then, a taxi sped over and stopped by the road.
The door opened, and a middle-aged man with a cane quickly got out and walked over with a limp.
Susan and Catherine frowned as they saw Todd limping towards them.
From Todd's anxious eyes, Susan could see that he truly cared for Catherine. Although their relationship wasn't honorable, their feelings were genuine.
Catherine, who had been crying on the ground, quickly got up and walked towards Todd with concern in her eyes. "Todd, slow down. What if you fall?"
"Catherine, you worried me to death. Don't be so foolish. If anything happens to you, I won't be able to live either!" Todd's weathered face was full of wrinkles, but his eyes were sincere, and his determined expression showed his resolve.
"Todd, I really have no face to see anyone!" Catherine cried.
Todd held Catherine's shoulders firmly. "I'll divorce Carol as soon as possible. Once I'm divorced, I'll take you to my parents' old house in the central district. No one knows you there. We'll live a quiet life and spend our old age in peace, okay?"
Hearing Todd's words, a glimmer of hope appeared in Catherine's tearful eyes.
"Promise me you won't do anything foolish again. I mean it, Catherine. If you go, I'll go with you." Todd shook Catherine's shoulders.
Hearing this, Catherine was shocked. She met Todd's intense gaze and nodded tearfully. "Todd, I promise you!"
"Good." Todd then pulled Catherine into his arms, tears streaming down his face.
Seeing this, Susan turned her face away, her eyes also red.
To be honest, she was moved by their love, but their relationship was not accepted by society. She didn't know if it was Catherine's fortune or misfortune to have met Todd.
However, Susan thought of her own past with Seb. They had broken up and gotten back together several times, but she never regretted meeting him. Without him, she wouldn't have experienced such a profound love. Even if they couldn't be together forever, the memories were worth cherishing for a lifetime.
Todd and Catherine talked for a few more minutes, and then Susan took Catherine away.
Todd and Catherine decided that they wouldn't see each other again until Todd's divorce was finalized, but they would miss each other, and Catherine would wait for the day he got divorced.
On the way, Catherine suddenly held Susan's hand and said guiltily, "Susan, I'm sorry."
Susan said expressionlessly, "Nothing you say can change what happened, Mom."
Hearing this, Catherine felt even more ashamed, losing all face and dignity in front of Susan.
Seeing Catherine's embarrassed look, Susan softened, held her hand, and said, "Mom, when we get back, try to hide your emotions. Don't let Dorothy know about this, so she won't worry."
"Okay." Catherine nodded. She couldn't explain this to Dorothy anyway.
Then Susan reminded her, "And don't do anything foolish. Life is more important than anything!"
"I know. I won't do anything foolish. I can't drag Todd down with me," Catherine replied.
Hearing this, Susan sighed helplessly.
"Mom, don't think too much. I'll take you back." Seeing Catherine's swollen face, Susan felt very uncomfortable.
"Okay." Catherine nodded and followed Susan.
After taking Catherine back to Dorothy's house and finding that Dorothy had taken Amanda out, Susan applied some medicinal wine to Catherine's face and used ice packs. Only when Catherine's mood and face improved did she leave.
After leaving Dorothy's house, Susan looked up at the blue sky, feeling suffocated and unable to breathe!
