Chapter 490 Why Won't You Let Me Play with Balloons
Hearing the question, Hayden looked down and mumbled, "You should ask Mommy."
Seeing Hayden's guilty and sad face, Seb couldn't bring himself to scold the kid. He ruffled his hair and said, "I'll go talk to your mom. You go hang out with Spring."
Hayden nodded, looking relieved.
Seb headed upstairs, scratching his head, and pushed open the master bedroom door. It was pitch black inside, no lights on, and he could just make out a figure lying on the bed.
Seb flipped the switch, and the room lit up instantly.
Susan, who was pouting on the bed, shielded her eyes with her hand and took a few seconds to adjust to the light.
Next thing, Seb's hand was on her waist, and his deep voice followed. "What's up?"
"Nothing," Susan replied, still sulking.
Seb frowned but then chuckled. "Hayden said he messed up today and told me to come up and cheer you up. You’re not really mad at the kid, are you?"
At this, Susan suddenly sat up and glared at Seb, exasperated. "That little rascal embarrassed me today!"
Hearing this, Seb asked, confused, "What happened?" Susan was never this worked up, especially not with Hayden.
Susan pointed to the nightstand and said, "See for yourself!"
Following Susan's finger, Seb's eyes landed on the nightstand, where an opened condom lay, clearly deflated, like it had been used as a balloon.
Seb frowned and asked, puzzled, "This..."
Susan immediately snapped, "Didn't we notice one was missing this morning? Guess what, Hayden swiped it yesterday and took it to preschool today. He even played balloon blowing with it with the other kids, and the teacher found out. She was livid and called me right away. When I got to the preschool, she threw this thing on the table and told me that our private matters should be kept discreet and not affect the child. She also said that bringing such things to preschool could corrupt other kids!"
Hearing this, Seb tried to hold back but eventually couldn't help it and burst out laughing.
Seeing Seb laugh so hard he was clutching his stomach, Susan threw a pillow at him. "You're still laughing? Do you know how mortified I was today? I should have let you deal with the preschool teacher!"
Seeing Susan's angry face, Seb stepped forward, held her shoulders, and comforted her with a grin, "Alright, alright. Next time something like this happens, call me, and I'll go talk to the teacher."
Seeing his teasing look, Susan emphasized with a stern face, "I'm serious!"
"I'm serious too. Hey, is the preschool teacher a woman?" Seb suddenly asked.
"Yeah," Susan nodded.
"I bet if she had to face me, she wouldn't have thrown this thing on the desk. She'd be the one blushing and feeling embarrassed!" Seb said, picking up the condom from the nightstand.
Susan rolled her eyes at Seb. "Hayden's picking up all your bad habits."
"Hey, you gotta take some blame too. Hayden's got half your DNA, remember?" Seb chuckled.
"Good thing he got some of my good traits. If he was all you, I’d be outta here," Susan shot back.
Seb stroked his chin, grinning. "If I'm so bad, why are you so hooked on me?"
"I... accidentally had Hayden, so I got stuck with you. Otherwise, why would I be with you?" Susan said, lifting her chin defiantly.
Deep down, she knew that apart from her so-called noble character, she didn't have much to match him, and even that was something she forced on herself.
Seb looked at her intently, then pulled her up from the bed. "Alright, I'm not good enough for you, okay?"
"That's right," Susan muttered, looking down.
"Can we go eat now? I'm starving," Seb said, rubbing his stomach.
Susan cracked a small smile, which was her way of saying yes.
Seb took her hand and led her downstairs.
At the dining table, Susan still had a stern look, making Hayden go silent.
Seb gave Hayden a look.
Hayden quickly turned to Susan and said, "Mommy, don't be mad. I was wrong!"
Seeing Hayden's scared face, Susan's heart softened, but she knew she had to teach him a lesson. So, she kept her stern face and asked, "Then tell me, what did you do wrong?"
"I shouldn't have caused trouble at preschool and got you scolded by the teacher," Hayden answered timidly.
Susan wasn't satisfied. "Wrong! You shouldn't have taken my stuff without asking, then snuck it to preschool and played with it with other kids."
"I know I was wrong. I won't take Mommy's things again," Hayden said, feeling wronged.
"You need to get my permission before taking anything, understand?" Susan reiterated sternly.
"Got it," Hayden mumbled, looking down, feeling a bit unhappy.
Seb held Susan's hand and said softly, "Alright, Hayden knows he was wrong. Let's eat."
"Alright then," Susan said to Hayden, her heart aching for him.
After Susan said that, Hayden immediately grabbed his utensils, picked his favorite food, and started eating like he hadn't eaten in days.
Seeing him like that, Susan felt a pang in her heart and put a fried chicken leg in his bowl.
Then, Susan picked up Spring, placed her on her lap, and fed her bite by bite.
After a while, Hayden suddenly looked up, his big round eyes staring at Susan, and curiously asked, "Mommy, why did you and Daddy buy so many balloons to play with?"
Susan froze!
Hayden continued, "I just took one to play with secretly. Why are you so mad? And why was the teacher so mad when she saw me playing with that balloon? You never get mad when I play with other balloons. The teacher really made a big deal out of it. It was just a balloon, but she called you to preschool. I don't even know what I did wrong."
