Chapter 1269 Unbelievable
Three days later, Cecilia finally quit her job.
During her last few days at work, she gave it her all, making sure every task was done perfectly. She knew it might be a while before she could work again, if ever.
After breakfast that morning, Cecilia helped carry Daryl's briefcase as they walked out of the mansion.
Once they were outside, Daryl took the briefcase from her. "I got it."
"Careful, Mom might see us," Cecilia said, glancing back at the mansion's front door.
Earlier, when Daryl had finished his breakfast and stood up, Azalea had told Cecilia to carry Daryl's briefcase and see him off.
Cecilia never thought scenes she had only seen in TV dramas would become her reality.
Daryl chuckled. "Don't worry, Mom's still having breakfast with Dad."
"Does your family always have so many rules?" Cecilia couldn't help but ask.
Daryl smiled. "Yeah, my mom always saw my dad off. When he came home, she'd bring him his slippers, serve him water, food, and even help him bathe. To her, a woman's job is to serve her husband. Simple as that."
Cecilia frowned.
She looked up and met Daryl's eyes. "Do you think that way too?"
Cecilia felt a wave of panic. She hadn't expected the Fields family to have so many rules, or that their beliefs would be so old-fashioned.
Daryl laughed and put a hand on her shoulder. "Relax, I'm a modern guy. I believe men and women are equal, with just different roles and biology."
Hearing this, Cecilia smiled, feeling relieved. In her eyes, he definitely wasn't a man with outdated beliefs.
"Alright, I gotta get to work," Daryl said, noticing her smile.
"See you tonight," Cecilia replied with a smile.
But Daryl didn't move.
"What's up?" Cecilia asked, frowning.
"Don't I get a kiss?" Daryl asked, looking at her.
Cecilia blushed.
She glanced around, seeing the driver and gardener starting their day's work, and whispered, "Alright, hurry up and go. I'll give you a kiss when you get back."
She pushed Daryl away, but he took the chance to plant a kiss on her cheek.
Caught off guard, Cecilia covered her cheek, feeling embarrassed.
Daryl smiled. "I'm off!"
He waved and got into the car.
Daryl was becoming more playful, often sneaking kisses, which made him very happy.
Watching Daryl's car leave, Cecilia turned and went back into the mansion.
As soon as she entered the living room, she saw Azalea sitting on the sofa. Isaac was probably in the study practicing calligraphy, and two maids were cleaning with feather dusters and cloths.
"Why did it take you so long to see him off? I finished my meal and you still weren't back," Azalea scolded.
Cecilia lowered her head, thinking Azalea must have seen her and Daryl being affectionate.
Azalea's expression softened. "Today is your first day as a full-time daughter-in-law of the Fields family. From now on, I'll teach you how to be a proper wife and daughter-in-law."
"What?" Cecilia's eyes widened.
Did being a wife and daughter-in-law require lessons?
Azalea stood up. "Follow me."
She turned and went upstairs, and Cecilia followed silently.
Azalea went straight to Daryl and Cecilia's room, making Cecilia nervous. She didn't know what Azalea intended.
Azalea stood in the room, glancing at the messy bed.
"Mom, I haven't tidied up the bed yet," Cecilia said quickly.
She hurried to straighten the bed.
Cecilia felt overwhelmed. The bed was a mess from their intimacy the night before, and their underwear was scattered around. They had woken up late and hadn't had time to clean up.
Azalea stood like a statue, watching Cecilia without a word.
Cecilia gathered their underwear to take to the bathroom.
Azalea finally spoke. "Daryl changes clothes every day. You need to wash his clothes immediately and iron them."
"Yes, Mom," Cecilia replied with a smile.
Azalea continued, "You need to wash them now. I'll watch and guide you."
"What?" Cecilia frowned.
Washing clothes needed guidance? Cecilia had no choice but to take the clothes to the bathroom.
Azalea added, "Daryl's clothes are custom-made and can't be machine-washed. They must be hand-washed. The laundry workers used to do it, but I wasn't satisfied. Now that Daryl has a wife, you should wash them yourself."
Cecilia said nothing.
Though they had laundry workers, it was a wife's duty to wash her husband's clothes, especially now that she was a housewife.
After guiding Cecilia, Azalea said, "Just follow my instructions. I'll wait downstairs. Come down when you're done."
"Yes, Mom," Cecilia nodded.
Azalea's footsteps faded away.
Once Azalea left, Cecilia sighed in relief. With Azalea around, she had to be extra careful.
It took Cecilia over two hours to wash and iron Daryl's clothes and underwear.
Wiping the sweat from her forehead, she hurried downstairs.
In the living room, Azalea was drinking tea and watching TV.
"Finished?" Azalea glanced at her.
"Yes," Cecilia nodded.
Azalea casually asked, "Did you wash your underwear with Daryl's?"
"Yes," Cecilia replied, blushing and touching her hair.
Why did Azalea ask that? It was normal for a couple to wash their underwear together.
