Chapter 862 A Chance Encounter

Watching the kids dash into the dining room, laughing and full of joy, Susan got up from the ground and smiled. "Thanks, Cecilia. I heard you did a great job with them while I was gone."

Cecilia blushed a bit and said, "Honestly, I get lonely sometimes. Having them around brings some happiness into my life. Otherwise, it would be pretty dull."

Susan knew Cecilia was having a rough time too, so she gave her hand a reassuring pat. "This too shall pass."

"Yeah, it will," Cecilia said, her eyes showing a touch of sadness.

Susan could see Cecilia was really struggling with her feelings. She truly loved Daryl, but now he was full of resentment towards her. Susan had no idea how things would turn out for them, so she just silently wished them the best.

Love was tough. There were so many things and people that could come between Daryl and Cecilia. If they weren't careful, they could drift apart, even if they still cared about each other deep down.

That evening, with the sky painted in sunset colors, a tall figure stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, staring at the orange-red horizon with deep, thoughtful eyes.

"Come in!" Seb said after hearing two knocks on the door of his office.

A man in a white shirt walked in and stopped about nine feet away from Seb. "Mr. Anderson, you wanted to see me?"

Seb, still facing the window, took a puff from his cigar and asked, "Have you seen her recently?"

Leon frowned, confused. "Her?"

Clearly, Leon didn't know who Seb was talking about.

Seb turned around, frowning. "You've been helping her out, even risking my anger to keep her informed about me. Now you don't remember her?"

Leon realized Seb was talking about Susan. "No, I haven't seen her."

Seb's eyes narrowed.

Leon could tell Seb wanted to know where Susan was but didn't want to ask directly.

After a moment's hesitation, Leon said, "She's not in Maple Valley."

Seb couldn't hide his emotions and asked urgently, "Not in Maple Valley? Then where is she?"

"She went back to Northstar City," Leon replied.

Seb's face darkened, and his hand stiffened.

Leon looked at Seb and said, "Susan transferred the accounting firm to Dorothy. She said she needed time to mend her broken heart."

"Did she say when she'd be back?" Seb turned away, trying to hide his disappointment.

"She won't be back anytime soon," Leon said.

Seb waved his hand dismissively. "That's all, you can go."

"Yes, sir." Leon nodded and left the office.

Seb stared out at Maple Valley under the sunset, his brows slightly furrowed. The ash on his cigar had grown long because he hadn't taken a puff in a while.

He hadn't seen Susan in days. Even though he wanted to see her again, he felt torn inside.

Even if they met, nothing would change. Seb had Ellie now, and he had a responsibility to her. He couldn't do anything with Susan.

But over these days, Seb had come to realize that Susan had really gotten under his skin.

Even in the dead of night, thoughts of her would creep in. He was deeply drawn to her, but he had to keep those feelings in check.

Just then, the phone on his desk rang.

It rang a few times before Seb finally walked over and picked it up, trying to stay calm.

"Seb, why'd you take so long to answer? The wedding dress just arrived from Drakovia. I'm heading to the bridal shop now. Can you meet me there?" Ellie's excited voice chirped through the line.

"Okay," Seb said, frowning slightly but keeping his tone gentle.

"Love you!" Ellie said before hanging up, clearly happy.

As he put the phone down, Seb's mind was still filled with thoughts of Susan, the woman he couldn't stop thinking about day and night.

Meanwhile, in Northstar City, Susan was feeling a bit better with Hayden and Spring around.

But as Seb's wedding day got closer, she grew more and more uneasy.

Isabella and Cecilia noticed and often invited her out shopping or to social club events.

But Susan wasn't interested in any of it. She would spend hours zoning out during flower arranging or piano lessons, and she had no desire to dance her beloved tango.

One day, Cecilia suggested with a smile, "Susan, while Hayden and Spring are at school, why don't you go out and relax?"

"I don't know where to go." Honestly, Northstar City was full of memories of Seb.

They had shared some beautiful moments here.

There was even a shirt of his still hanging in her closet, something he insisted on leaving behind.

He once said the shirt would keep her company. Now, thinking about it, he was really foresighted. That shirt might just stay in her closet forever.

When she couldn't sleep, Susan would sometimes take the shirt out and even sleep holding it.

She knew this was bad because it meant she'd never get over Seb.

But she couldn't help herself.

Recently, she stayed away from social media and avoided reaching out to friends back home, fearing she'd hear about Seb and Ellie's upcoming wedding.

"How about a trip?" Cecilia suggested with a smile.

Susan stared at Cecilia, a bit dazed.

Actually, it was a good idea. At least it would help her get through Seb and Ellie's wedding. Otherwise, she'd go crazy.

Seeing this, Isabella chimed in, "You've always wanted to go to Zandoria, right? Why not go and relax?"

"Alright." Susan finally nodded.

Two days later, Susan was on a plane from Northstar City to Zandoria Velvet City.

As the plane was about to take off, the person in the seat next to Susan arrived late.

Susan sat there, feeling lost and not really paying attention to anything around her.

"Susan? Is that really you?" A magnetic male voice suddenly reached her ears. It was fluent, but with an accent different from the locals.

Hearing someone call her name, Susan looked up and was stunned.
