Chapter 110 Dad

Seb's kiss was intense and angry. Susan felt the pain but couldn't move him.

Seb's hands started roaming, and the fear from that night made Susan break out in a cold sweat.

She knew Seb's temper too well. Regretting her earlier provocation, she realized it was too late now.

Seb was tugging at her nightgown, and just as Susan feared she'd be forced again, a voice interrupted.

"Daddy."

It was Hayden!

Hearing "Daddy," Seb stopped immediately.

Both turned to see Hayden sitting on the bed, looking at them sleepily.

Susan's face flushed bright red.

Seb let go of Susan's shoulder, and she pushed him away.

Hayden crawled to the edge of the bed, reaching out and calling, "Daddy!"

Seb quickly picked Hayden up, his anger gone, and held him lovingly. "Hayden, did you miss me?" he asked softly.

Hayden couldn't speak, just made "ah-ah" sounds, but it was clear he was very attached to Seb, touching his face with chubby hands.

Susan had spent days with Hayden and knew his habits. If he liked someone, he'd touch their face and sometimes give a kiss.

In the past few days, Susan had lost count of Hayden's kisses. It felt wonderful, a joy beyond words.

'Wait, Hayden is Seb's son?' Susan finally realized.

How could Seb have a son? He and Cynthia weren't married, and Hayden couldn't be Cynthia's child.

Hayden was eleven months old. If her son were alive, he'd be the same age.

Thinking of this, Susan couldn't stay calm. She stepped forward and asked, "Seb, is this child really your son?"

Seb's hand froze for a moment, then he said, "Of course, why would I lie about that?"

"Is this child ours..." Susan started but was cut off.

Seb coldly replied, "No!"

"He's eleven months old. If our son were alive, he'd be the same age. You said our child died, but you never let me see the body." Susan's suspicions grew.

"That child is dead. Hayden is a child I adopted from an orphanage," Seb interrupted again.

"Adopted?" Susan stared at Seb in disbelief.

A glimmer of hope ignited in her heart. If Hayden was her son, then her child was still alive!

Seb, holding Hayden, said seriously, "I was devastated by the loss of our son. Coincidentally, a newborn baby boy was abandoned at the orphanage I supported. The moment I saw Hayden, I couldn't let him go, so I adopted him."

Even though Seb's explanation made sense, Susan clung to a sliver of hope, maybe fooling herself, not ready to accept the truth.

"Are you sure? Hayden really isn't our son?" she asked, staring at Hayden's little face.

Seeing her sorrowful eyes, Seb's gaze softened. "I couldn't bear losing our son, so I adopted Hayden. Now, I know it was the right choice. I've given him all my love, and he's become a part of my life."

Susan didn't argue. She had grown attached to Hayden in just a few days, so she could only imagine how Seb felt after raising him for so long.

Realizing Hayden wasn't her son, Susan felt down, still grieving her lost child.

Seb's question broke her thoughts. "So, why are you here?"

"Mary caught a bad cold and didn't want to risk infecting Hayden. Moreover,George couldn't find a reliable nanny, so he asked me to help out for a few days," Susan replied calmly.

Seb frowned. "My family doesn't know about Hayden's adoption. I want him to grow up in a normal environment. I plan to get married and have kids in the future. I don't want Hayden caught in family drama; it wouldn't be good for him."

Susan nodded. She understood Seb's concerns and thought, 'His mother, Carol, wouldn't likely approve of the adoption, and Cynthia might see Hayden as a threat to her future children. Keeping the adoption a secret seemed best for Hayden.'

Feeling the room's tension, Susan said, "Since you're back, I should leave."

She started packing her things.

Seb watched her for a moment before saying, "Leave tomorrow morning. It's too late now, and you won't find a cab."

Susan stopped packing. He was right; there were no cabs available at this hour.

Hayden, in Seb's arms, started reaching out to Susan.

Seeing this, Susan's heart softened, and she took Hayden into her arms.

As soon as Hayden was with Susan, he started rubbing his eyes and hugging her neck.

"Hayden is sleepy. I'll put him to bed. You should rest too," Susan said to Seb.

Seeing Hayden in Susan's arms, Seb's expression softened. After a moment, he nodded. "Alright, thank you."

Seb lovingly patted Hayden's head and then left the room.

Hayden quickly fell asleep in Susan's arms. She gently laid him on the bed and leaned against it, watching him.

To be honest, Susan didn't want to leave Hayden tonight, but she knew she had to go tomorrow. Her affection for Hayden now surpassed her past feelings for Seb.
