Chapter 1374 Stinging Pain
The woman might have been involved in prostitution herself, so these words didn't faze her at all.
She smiled, her lips curling slightly, her nails painted a striking red. She blinked and said, "You ain't from around here, are you? I know this city like the back of my hand. I could show you a good time."
Dary smirked, "I don't think that's necessary. The mother of my child owns this place. She can show me around."
The woman was taken aback by his words.
Cecilia, who had been standing behind the bar, heard the entire exchange and frowned slightly.
The woman glanced at Cecilia behind the bar, feeling uncomfortable. She stood up and said, "Sorry to interrupt."
With that, she turned and walked out of the café, looking dejected.
Well, she had tried to flirt with someone, only to find out his wife was the owner of the place. Even if she lacked awareness, she couldn't stay here any longer. That would be asking for trouble!
However, Cecilia was fuming. Daryl's words were too misleading. Referring to her as "the mother of his child" was completely misleading!
Cecilia had been bottling up her anger for days.
This time, she couldn't hold back any longer.
She walked out from behind the bar and headed straight for Daryl.
Seeing Cecilia's angry demeanor, Daryl remained nonchalant. "Have a seat and let's talk."
He turned and waved to Calliope behind the bar. "A cup of Blue Mountain coffee, please."
"Sure," Calliope nodded quickly.
But Cecilia's heart tightened at his words.
He remembered that Blue Mountain coffee was her favorite.
Upon hearing this, Daryl was not upset; instead, he began to tease. "I'll treat you to coffee."
Cecilia's face hardened. "No need. This coffee won't be on your tab."
Daryl wasn't offended. Instead, he joked, "I wouldn't mind if you treated me to everything today. Your business seems to be doing well."
He glanced around the café. Although it wasn't peak hours, there were still quite a few customers.
Cecilia responded coldly, "We're not close. I won't give you a freebie!"
Daryl leaned in and whispered, "We have Thaddeus together. Isn't that close enough?"
Cecilia was repulsed by the flirtatious look in Daryl's eyes.
She leaned back in her chair and said sternly, "Mr. Fields, shouldn't you be busy with work? Sitting in my café every day is a waste of your time, don't you think?"
Daryl stared at Cecilia. "Spending time on you is always worth it. I regret not realizing it sooner. I hope it's not too late now."
His fingers intertwined, his deep eyes fixed on Cecilia, filled with intensity.
Cecilia had seen that look before, but never with such sincerity.
She turned her face away, not wanting his gaze to affect her decision or stir her emotions.
She knew it was time to make things clear.
She straightened up, looked at Daryl seriously, and said, "Daryl, you need to understand, there's no going back for us."
"Why?" Daryl's brows furrowed.
His smile froze, and both their expressions turned serious.
Cecilia's lips tightened. "Because I don't love you anymore. I don't care about you. Everything between us is over."
"Please give me another chance, can you?" Daryl reached out and held Cecilia's hand on the table.
As soon as he touched her hand, Cecilia felt a jolt and quickly pulled her hand away.
As Daryl saw Cecilia avoid him like the plague, his eyes dimmed, a pang of pain flashing through them.
Cecilia looked at Daryl, her eyes calm. "Daryl, it's not that I don't want to give you a chance. I just don't have any feelings for you anymore. Do you understand?"
Daryl's eyes dropped, and he slumped in his seat.
"I don't love you anymore. Even if we forced ourselves to be together, what would be the point? Please don't use Thaddeus to manipulate me. I love Thaddeus, but I won't compromise and get back with you for his sake." Cecilia's tone was resolute, unafraid to say the harshest words.
After a moment of silence, Daryl said, "Don't worry, I won't use Thaddeus to manipulate you. I won't force you either. I'm sorry for bothering you these past few days."
"You've already disturbed me. Apologizing won't change that. I just ask that you don't disrupt my life anymore." Cecilia's tone was calm, as if she had no emotions, as if their passionate past had never existed.
Daryl hesitated, then awkwardly nodded. "Don't worry, I won't bother you again."
Despite his words, Daryl's eyes were filled with reluctance, though he tried to hide it.
Cecilia saw his confusion and helplessness but didn't say anything. She turned her face away, looking out the window.
Daryl stood up, draped his coat over his arm, gave Cecilia one last look, and walked to the bar to settle the bill.
Calliope watched Daryl with sympathy in her eyes.
Daryl glanced at Cecilia sitting by the window one last time before pushing the door open and leaving the café.
Outside, the light had dimmed, and the cold wind whipped people's clothes and hair. Daryl, wearing just a shirt, walked down the street, lost in thought, forgetting to put on the wool coat draped over his arm.
Calliope, shivering at the café door, watched Daryl's figure fade into the distance before running back inside.
She saw Cecilia still sitting in the same spot, arms crossed, staring blankly out the window.
