Chapter 848 Unease
Seeing Ellie's shoulders shake and glancing back at the totaled car, Seb felt a wave of guilt. He pulled Ellie into a tight hug. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have gone out tonight."
Ellie looked up, her voice gentle. "You have to focus on your career. You can't always be with me. I was just worried about your health before, but now your leg's almost healed. You don't need to stay with me every day. Going out with friends will do you good."
The more Ellie spoke, the guiltier Seb felt. He looked at her, eyes full of regret, not knowing what to say.
"Let Leon handle the car accident. I'm tired. Let's go home," Ellie suggested, looking at Seb.
"Okay." Seb nodded, then wrapped his arm around Ellie's shoulder, and they disappeared into the night.
For a whole week, Susan didn't get a chance to see Seb.
She had no choice but to stake out at the Prosperity Group again, but Seb was always with Ellie, making it impossible for her to get close.
Plus, the Prosperity Group had officially announced that Seb and Ellie were getting married next month. Various tabloids and magazines had also published news about Seb custom-ordering a Drakovia wedding dress for Ellie and buying high-end diamond jewelry.
Susan was convinced that Seb had felt something for her the last time they met, but they just hadn't had the chance to meet again.
'Are we really over?' Susan kept asking herself, going from confident to confused and helpless.
One evening after dinner, Seb and Ellie were sitting on the couch watching TV.
Seb's eyes were on the TV screen, but he wasn't interested at all. Ellie loved watching it and kept feeding Seb various fruits. Seb could only smile back, but he knew how forced his smile was.
He felt drained being with Ellie, not relaxed at all. She took care of him meticulously every day, catering to his every need, but life felt as bland as water.
He often thought about his argument with Susan at the Mexican restaurant.
But Seb was a responsible guy. Even though he wanted to see Susan again, he knew it wasn't right.
He was getting married to Ellie next month. He had to keep his promise to her, especially since Ellie had been so good to him. He couldn't let her down.
Plus, Ellie had been a bit shaken by the car accident, especially at night, so he stayed by her side constantly.
Seb's phone rang again; it was the third time in half an hour.
Seb glanced at the caller ID and decisively pressed the reject button.
"Why aren't you answering? Who's calling?" Ellie asked curiously.
Seb replied, "It's Mr. Murray. He invited me to a nightclub tonight. I've already turned him down, but he keeps calling. It's nothing, let's just watch TV."
After saying that, Seb's eyes stayed glued to the TV, but only he knew he wasn't really watching.
Ellie watched him for a bit, then furrowed her brows and turned back to the TV.
A few minutes later, Ellie suddenly asked, "What did the male lead just say to the female lead? Why did she get so emotional?"
Seb stammered, unable to answer.
Seeing Seb's confused look, Ellie smiled gently. "Seb, you don't really like watching this kind of show. Why force yourself?"
"Ellie," Seb said awkwardly, trying to explain.
Ellie took his hand and smiled. "I know you want to keep me company, but there's no need to force yourself. I know you care about me. As long as you have me in your heart, that's enough. You should have your own life. You've been working hard all day at the office; you should relax and do something you enjoy."
Hearing this, Seb patted Ellie's hand. "Ellie, you'll make a great wife."
Ellie smiled and rested her head on Seb's shoulder, saying playfully, "I know I'm lucky to marry you. My biggest fear is that you'll suddenly change your mind and not marry me."
"Don't be silly. I'm the lucky one to marry you. Why would I miss this chance?" Seb said, stroking Ellie's head.
Ellie looked up and said, "Mr. Murray invited you to a nightclub, right? He's called you several times. It wouldn't be good to keep refusing. You could go to unwind."
Looking at Ellie, Seb asked, "Do you know what a nightclub is?"
"It's a place where men and women sing and dance, right? I've never been, but I can imagine. It's just a place for fun!" Ellie laughed.
"Are you really okay with me going?" Seb asked, stroking Ellie's face.
Ellie's eyes flashed. "They're just prostitutes. Would you really fall for them? If our relationship is that fragile, then we shouldn't be together."
Hearing this, Seb nodded. He suddenly said, "Ellie, don't worry. I won't let you down."
Ellie smiled. "Just remember your promise."
Seb then called Marc back, who enthusiastically invited him again.
Ellie gently helped Seb change into a shirt, and reminded him to come back early before sending him out the door.
Watching Seb's car drive away, Ellie smiled, satisfied with her performance.
She knew Seb was a deeply emotional and responsible person. He still felt a bit guilty towards her, so her play-hard-to-get strategy had captured his heart.
However, until she married Seb, she couldn't relax. She had to ensure everything went smoothly.
The next moment, Ellie dialed a number and softly said, "He went to Twilight Club. Keep an eye on him and call me if anything happens."
Sitting on the couch at Isabella's house, lost in thought, Susan suddenly received a call from Leon. "Ms. Wilson, Mr. Anderson went to Twilight Club."
