Chapter 1152 Becoming Permanent
Seeing the tension and fear in Skylar's eyes, Daryl stepped forward, grasped Skylar's shoulders, and said, "Skylar, don't worry. I'll take care of everything. If we really got married, I think that would be the beginning of a tragedy."
Hearing this, Skylar shook off Daryl's arm and argued, "Daryl, we are perfectly matched in family background, looks, and education. We would definitely be very happy after getting married, and everyone would envy us. How could it be a tragedy?"
Facing Skylar's hysteria, Daryl looked at Skylar with guilt and said, "Skylar, I've always known about your feelings for me and our parents' expectations. But I've never had feelings for you; I've always seen you as a sister. That's why I never accepted you. This time, I agreed to the marriage because of family issues and not wanting to disappoint my parents. But now I regret it. I can't be with you for a lifetime; it wouldn't be fair to you. So, I'm sorry!"
With that, Daryl slowly began to step back.
Seeing him about to leave, Skylar rushed forward, hugged Daryl's waist, and cried. "Daryl, don't be so cruel, please. Without you, I can't go on!"
By this time, Skylar was already in tears.
Daryl felt both guilty and compassionate towards Skylar but couldn't compromise.
"Skylar, I'm sorry!" Daryl said, then forcefully pushed Skylar away and turned to leave.
"Daryl." Skylar's voice rang out in a heart-wrenching cry.
Daryl quickly left the Tate Family. Once in the car, he told Douglas in the front seat, "Call the hotel immediately and cancel today's wedding!"
Hearing this, Douglas asked in shock, "Mr. Fields, you mean cancel the wedding?"
"Cancel the wedding immediately. Announce that it's for my personal reasons and has nothing to do with the Tate Family," Daryl replied.
"Yes." Douglas hesitated for a moment before nodding.
Then, Daryl got out of the car midway.
Early that morning, Cecilia couldn't sleep, so she went for a walk by the river.
Looking at the rolling river, Cecilia's heart was already shattered.
Today was the day Daryl and Skylar were getting married. Daryl would definitely look very handsome, and Skylar would be radiant. They were a perfect match, and the wedding would be grand.
Cecilia couldn't think about it any longer. She then resolutely turned and left.
From that day on, Cecilia went back to work.
Staying at home any longer would drive her crazy; she couldn't let her mind wander anymore.
After Calista left, Marcella became the new team leader, and the office atmosphere immediately changed. The team members were harmonious and cooperative, completely different from when Calista was in charge.
Cecilia sat at her desk, gently touching her slightly protruding belly, then frowned and went straight to Seraphine's office.
"Ms. Lawson, I'm back at work today," Cecilia said, standing in front of Seraphine's desk.
Looking up and seeing Cecilia, Seraphine smiled and said, "Cecilia, Calista and Arabella have confessed to what they did. I believe the law will soon punish them. Now Marcella is your team leader, and I hope you will assist her in doing a good job with your team."
"Ms. Lawson, I will," Cecilia said with a slight smile.
"That's all, go ahead and get to work," Seraphine said, spreading her hands.
At this moment, Cecilia hesitated and then looked up, saying, "Ms. Lawson, HR has notified me to complete the formal onboarding procedures."
"Right, you've been made permanent. You're now an official employee of Vogue Vista. I almost forgot," Seraphine said quickly.
The next moment, Cecilia said, "Ms. Lawson, there's something I've been hiding from you. Before completing the formal onboarding procedures, I must confess."
"What is it?" Hearing this, Seraphine looked at Cecilia seriously.
"Ms. Lawson, I'm actually four months pregnant," Cecilia said, touching her belly.
Hearing this, Seraphine stared at Cecilia with astonished eyes.
Cecilia was wearing a loose casual suit, covering her belly. She then unbuttoned the suit, revealing her slightly protruding belly.
"Ms. Lawson, if you don't want to hire a pregnant woman, I'll give up this opportunity to become permanent," Cecilia said sincerely, looking at Seraphine.
"What? Cecilia, aren't you unmarried? How are you pregnant? This kid isn't Barry's, is it?" Seraphine asked, almost losing her composure in surprise.
Seraphine had always known that Barry liked Cecilia and thought Barry had been pursuing her. But she didn't expect Cecilia to be pregnant.
Seeing Seraphine's questioning look, Cecilia quickly shook her head and said, "I have nothing to do with Barry, Ms. Lawson, please don't misunderstand!"
Cecilia didn't say she was pregnant out of wedlock or that she was going to be a single mother because it was hard to explain.
Seraphine thought for a moment and said, "The decision to make you permanent was based on your past performance. This won't change. Of course, if you feel your health doesn't allow it, you can choose to take maternity leave early. However, if you take maternity leave, you'll only receive basic living expenses. This is the policy for new employees with less than two years of service. Please understand."
Hearing this, Cecilia was overjoyed. "Ms. Lawson, thank you. I can work until my due date."
"That's it then," Seraphine said, spreading her hands again.

"Daryl canceled his wedding with Victoria. Fields Group has officially announced it!" Marcella replied.
Hearing this, Cecilia was stunned. 'Cancel the wedding? How could that be? The Fields Family and the Tate Family are prominent families in Maple Valley. How could such a disgraceful thing as canceling a wedding happen?'
"No way? Canceling the wedding on the wedding day? That's terrifying!"
"Exactly, Marcella, did Fields Group give a reason?"
"To cancel a wedding on the wedding day, I bet it's either the groom or the bride who was caught cheating!"
