Chapter 495 It's Over

When Susan handed over the cash, the clerk took it with a grin. "Alright, I'll make sure they get it."

Susan, feeling relieved, added, "Hey, just don't tell them it's from me. Say it's from your manager or something."

The clerk raised an eyebrow. "Why?"

Susan gave a sheepish smile. "I've got beef with them. They might not take it if they knew it was from me. This money could really help her out."

"I get it, you're a good person," the clerk said before hurrying off.

As the clerk walked away, Isabella blurted out, "Are you nuts? Sophia and Amelia treated you like crap, and now you're helping them out? Do they even deserve it?"

Susan just smiled and shrugged. "It's a life we're talking about. If I can help, why not?"

"You're too nice for your own good!" Isabella shook her head, clearly not on board.

Susan sighed. "Isabella, maybe you don't have a family yet, so you still hold onto grudges. I used to be like that too. But after having a partner and kids, I just want peace. Today, I'm just thinking about building some good karma for my kids."

Isabella, looking a bit lost, nodded. "Maybe you're right. Anyway, let's not dwell on it. We were supposed to shop and eat, remember?"

"How about we grab a bite?" Susan suggested with a grin.

Isabella made a face. "No French food, something light."

Thinking about the earlier mess, Susan quickly agreed.

Later that evening, Seb came out of the shower and saw Susan looking troubled, leaning against the headboard.

"You okay? Rough day shopping?" he asked, concerned.

Susan couldn't help but spill the day's events to Seb.

After listening, Seb squeezed her hand. "You did what you could. You even gave money to help Amelia. You're amazing, don't stress over it."

Susan leaned on Seb's shoulder. "I can't stop thinking about Amelia getting hit. After all our fights, seeing her like that was... I don't even know if she'll pull through."

"Whatever happens, happens. Don't let it eat at you," Seb said, patting her shoulder.

Susan nodded, still looking down.

Seeing her bad mood, Seb's eyes lit up. "Hey, our wedding's in just over a week. Check out our wedding plan."

He handed her a thick, professional-looking book from the bedside table.

Susan's eyes widened. "This thing is huge!"

The plan was thick, like an inch, and super fancy. When she opened it, she saw the schedule was detailed down to the minute.

"The wedding company went all out. They better nail it, or we're getting ripped off," Seb chuckled.

"I told you we didn't need a wedding company. You could've just had a few people handle it. Why blow so much cash?" Susan grumbled.

Seb grinned and bopped her nose. "We gotta spend it. Otherwise, years from now, you'll say I cheaped out on our wedding."

Susan playfully shoved him. "Get lost!"

Seb laughed and pinned her down.

Susan was trapped. Looking into his intense eyes, she said, "We agreed on a truce for a week."

Her heart was racing.

Seb stroked her hair and kissed her forehead.

She could feel his breath getting heavier, and hers was all over the place too.

Then, Seb's fingers tangled in her hair, and in a husky voice, he asked, "Are you really that heartless?"

"You agreed to it," Susan's voice wavered.

Seb's lips curled into a mischievous smile. "But now I've changed my mind. What should I do?"

"You can't go back on your word." She didn't get to finish because he leaned in and kissed her, swallowing her words.

The kiss was both fiery and tender. Without realizing it, Susan's arms wrapped around his neck...

That night was full of passion, and the next morning, Susan almost showed up late.

As soon as she sat at her desk, Isabella walked in.

"Do you think Amelia will be okay?" Isabella asked, curious.

Susan frowned. "I'm wondering too."

Isabella pouted. "It looked pretty bad. Even if she pulls through, she might be disabled. Maybe it's better if she just..."

She trailed off.

Two nights later, Susan was holding Spring and watching TV when Seb came back from a social event.

"Daddy, daddy," Spring reached out for him.

Seb, seeing this, took off his suit and picked her up. He lifted her above his head, and she laughed, filling the room with her giggles.

Seeing Seb had been drinking, Susan smiled and took Spring from him. "Alright, you've had enough. Don't drop our Spring."

"I could drop myself but never my daughter," Seb laughed and touched Spring's face.

Susan smiled, knowing he truly loved Spring.

Seb sat on the sofa, looking a bit out of it, then glanced up at Susan. "Amelia's dead."

Susan was stunned. She opened her mouth but took a moment to ask, "When did it happen?"

Even though she knew Amelia's chances were slim, hearing she had died was still a shock.
