Chapter 1334 Tears Streaming Down
Azalea's disdain made Cecilia furious. She snapped, "The doctor said it’d be tough for me to get pregnant, but he never said it was impossible. I carried Thaddeus for nine months and gave birth to him. No one can change that!"
"That's right, Thaddeus was born to Mrs. Cecilia Fields. I can vouch for that, and so can Mr. Elijah Fields!" Freya suddenly stepped forward and declared.
Azalea turned to Elijah, frowning. "So, you've been in touch with her for the past year and a half?"
Seeing Azalea's accusatory look, Elijah explained, "Mom, Cecilia was pregnant and gave birth alone. She was carrying a Fields family child. How could I not help?"
"You've certainly helped a lot!" Azalea shot her son a glare.
"Mom," Elijah started to explain.
Azalea cut him off, "Whether Thaddeus is your child or not, you can't take him away!"
Azalea glanced at Thaddeus and gently patted his cheek. She adored this child and wouldn't let anyone take him away.
"Are you being reasonable or not? If you don't give me back my child, I'll call the police!" Cecilia threatened, seeing that Azalea had no intention of returning Thaddeus.
Azalea was taken aback by this.
At that moment, a figure walked in through the front door, exuding an air of authority. "Calling the police won't help because whether Thaddeus is my son or Elijah's, he belongs to the Fields family and should stay with us!"
Everyone turned their gaze to the newcomer.
Daryl, dressed in a black suit, scanned Elijah and Cecilia with cold eyes, a dark expression on his face.
Cecilia was both embarrassed and angry.
Elijah felt awkward.
Azalea, however, was overjoyed. "Daryl, are you saying this child is part of the Fields family?"
"You should ask Elijah about that!" Daryl replied, his face emotionless.
Hearing this, Azalea looked at Thaddeus, then smiled. "I suspected as much. This child looks so much like you all. I had a feeling he was my grandson. This is wonderful!"
"He is indeed your grandson." Daryl's eyes were filled with disdain as he glanced at Thaddeus in the butler Finn's arms.
Azalea then approached Elijah and asked quietly, "Elijah, is this child yours and Cecilia's?"
Although Azalea knew this was a family scandal, she desperately wanted a grandson. The Fields family needed a third generation, and it didn't matter who the parents were as long as the child was theirs. But the situation was becoming too chaotic.
"Mom, don't listen to him. Cecilia and I are innocent. Thaddeus is Daryl's biological son!" Elijah's face blushed as he hurried to explain.
Azalea was stunned by this.
Daryl pointed at Elijah, furious. "Are you still denying it?"
"If I didn't do it, I can't admit to it. This concerns Cecilia's reputation. You can misunderstand me, but do you know how much Cecilia has suffered over the past year and a half?" Elijah pointed back at Daryl, veins bulging on his forehead.
"Reputation? The kid's already here, and you still claim you're innocent? Who's gonna buy that? You think I'm an idiot?" Daryl's eyes were locked on Elijah, his anger radiating.
"You're the idiot! The most stubborn one I've ever met!" Elijah shouted back.
Daryl pulled out a birth certificate from his pocket and waved it in Elijah's face. "This birth certificate says Thaddeus was born eight months and one week ago. Considering the last time Cecilia and I were together on that island, she would've had to be pregnant for ten months and one week to give birth to my child. Women usually give birth in nine and a half months. I've never heard of a due date being delayed by almost a month!"
Cecilia closed her eyes, tears streaming down her face.
Azalea couldn't help but ask, "So, Thaddeus isn't your child, but Elijah's?"
Elijah, enraged, stepped forward and punched Daryl.
Daryl staggered, and everyone was stunned. Azalea shouted, "Elijah, stop it!"
Elijah pointed at Daryl, furious. "Daryl, how can you say such things? Do you even know what happened back then? Cecilia's due date passed with no signs of labor. She stayed in the hospital for half a month because the baby was in the wrong position. She had to lie on her stomach all day. Do you know how uncomfortable that was?"
Cecilia, now in tears, wiped her face and looked away.
She couldn't forget those difficult days. She managed the store while heavily pregnant, living alone in an unfamiliar city, constantly worried about her baby. Thankfully, Freya was there to support her. Otherwise, she didn't know what she would have done.
But Daryl knew none of this. He stubbornly believed the child wasn't his and thought she wasn't a good woman.
"In the end, the due date was too far past, and it was dangerous. She had to have a C-section. After the surgery, she had an infection and stayed in the hospital for nearly a month. She went through so much to have Thaddeus. She was alone, carrying and giving birth to him. Instead of caring for her, you constantly misunderstood her and doubted Thaddeus was yours. You're a jerk!" Elijah listed all of Cecilia's hardships.
Cecilia was now sobbing uncontrollably.
But Daryl was too stubborn. He sneered, "You speak so emotionally. If you and she have nothing, why did you hide her whereabouts for the past year and a half? Why did you secretly visit her every month? Who would believe you have no relationship? And your story about the due date being delayed by a month is unbelievable!"
"The doctor said Cecilia couldn't get pregnant, but she had Thaddeus. Exceptions happen. A delayed due date isn't that rare!" Elijah argued.
"Stop talking nonsense!" Daryl punched Elijah in return.
