Chapter 400 Heartache

Seeing Leon dodge the question, Susan knew Seb was hiding something big from her.

Without a second thought, Susan stepped forward.

Leon tried to stop her, but she brushed him off and walked right in.

The moment she stepped inside, Susan was hit with a scene straight out of a fairy tale. It was like a crystal palace, all glass and lights. The night outside felt miles away, making the place look like a moon palace floating in the sky.

Soft music played in the background of the revolving restaurant. There were about a dozen tables by the windows, each with couples whispering sweet nothings to each other. Despite the crowd, it was eerily quiet.

Susan was so stunned she just stood there. No one noticed her at the entrance.

Scanning the room, she finally spotted who she was looking for in the far corner.

When she saw the girl sitting with Seb, everything clicked.

The girl looked about twenty-five or twenty-six, dressed to the nines, with a sweet face and striking eyes. She was clearly into Seb, her eyes glued to him, smiling and serving him food.

Seeing this, Susan's heart twisted in knots, and she clenched her fists.

So this was what he was up to in the central district. All those excuses about his parents not getting along well and his mom being sick were just lies!

Even though it was hard to believe, the truth was right in front of her.

Susan stared at them for a couple of minutes, then turned to leave.

Seb had his back to her, and the girl didn't know her, so they had no clue Susan had been there.

Susan really wanted to march over and demand answers from Seb. But she didn't. Her heart was breaking, but she didn't want to cry in front of him, especially not in front of another woman.

Besides, what right did she have to question him? Ex-wife? That awkward title.

He'd always refused to remarry her, and now she knew why. Her heart sank.

She walked out and hit the elevator button, her mind a complete mess.

Leon caught up, trying to explain, "Ms. Wilson, it's not what you think. Mr. Anderson has his reasons."

Susan couldn't help but scoff. "Reasons? What reasons? Is someone forcing him to be here with that girl?"

She pointed to a poster on the wall showing the dreamy revolving restaurant filled with couples.

Leon frowned. "Ms. Wilson, let me get you a hotel room. Mr. Anderson can explain everything later, okay?"

The elevator arrived. Susan gave a bitter smile. "What's there to explain? It's really unnecessary."

With that, Susan stepped into the elevator and hit the button for the first floor.

As the doors slid shut, Leon's face disappeared from view.

The second she was alone, tears welled up in Susan's eyes.

She'd been holding it together for what felt like forever, even though it was just a few minutes.

Finally alone, she let the tears flow. She wiped them away, trying to make sense of why Seb was treating her like this.

If he didn't love her anymore, why not just let her go? Why keep her around? Was it just because of the kids?

Susan was a mess of emotions.

She regretted not storming over and questioning him back then, maybe even throwing a glass of wine in his face.

She used to be someone who loved and hated with all her heart.

Now, she was just tired. Too tired to love or hate, just deeply sad.

After a while, the elevator doors opened, and Susan quickly stepped out and left the lobby.

As she walked down the stairs, she heard someone call out.

"Ms. Wilson, wait up!"

It was Leon.

Susan wiped her tears and turned to face him under the moonlight.

Leon caught up, frowning. "Ms. Wilson, it's late. Where are you going?"

Seeing the concern in his eyes, Susan tried to play it cool. "Leon, I'm not gonna do anything crazy. I know I'm a mom now. My kids need me. I'm heading back to Maple Valley."

"But it's so late..." Leon hesitated.

Susan cut him off, "There's still a train to Maple Valley tonight. I can make it."

"I'll take you to the station," Leon offered.

"No need. You need to take them back after they're done eating," Susan said, glancing at the revolving restaurant glowing in the night sky.

Leon looked at her, still worried, but he didn't say a word.

Susan added, "Leon, don't tell Seb I was here. Let me keep a shred of dignity."

"Okay," Leon nodded.

Susan forced a smile and disappeared into the night...

On the night train, staring out at the dark landscape, Susan's mind was a whirlwind.

They'd just built a family of four. The laughter in the living room still echoed in her ears, and the images of Seb playing with Spring and Hayden were still fresh in her mind.

What she thought was a happy family turned out to be a fleeting illusion, maybe even a delusion. But even if it was a delusion, she didn't want to face the truth.

Susan felt a bit ashamed. She used to be someone who couldn't stand deceit, but now she didn't have the guts to confront him.

The lights in the train dimmed, and passengers leaned back to rest. Susan, however, was wide awake, her head pounding.

The next morning, Susan hurried off the train.

She headed straight to the villa. Hayden and Spring were waiting for her, and her first accounting firm was still in the tense preparation stage. There were too many things waiting for her. In her world, feelings were no longer everything. She decided to put her emotions on the back burner and focus all her energy on her career.
