Chapter 445 Enemies Meet

Susan had never spilled the beans to Linda about Sophia wrecking her mom's marriage. It was a messy family secret, and she and Linda weren't tight enough for that kind of dirt, so she kept her lips zipped.

Just then, a bunch of Linda's pals rolled up to chat. Since Susan didn't know them from Adam, she flashed a polite smile, turned on her heel, and made a beeline for a waiter, snagging a glass of juice from his tray.

Out of the corner of her eye, Susan spotted a woman storming in, looking all kinds of pissed off.

It was Amelia, and Susan was floored. For someone who usually loved to strut her stuff, Amelia showed up in basic black pants and a khaki shirt. Her hair was thrown together, and her makeup was way less glam than usual.

Susan's eyes darted to Ethan, who was busy yucking it up with some folks, his arm slung around his girlfriend's shoulder.

Seeing Amelia all riled up, Susan knew she was here to stir the pot with Ethan again.

Susan positioned herself between Ethan and Amelia. Amelia's eyes locked onto Susan first, then zeroed in on Ethan in the crowd.

When Amelia saw Ethan's arm around his new girl, her eyes went full-on murder mode.

Susan couldn't help but smirk, thinking Amelia was seriously relentless. They were done, so why keep dragging it out? It was just making both of them miserable.

Maybe it was Susan's smirk that set Amelia off, making her think Susan was getting a kick out of her misery.

Susan definitely didn't want to poke the bear, so she turned to dodge her.

But Amelia stormed over, blocking her path.

"Susan, you think this is funny? You laughing at me?" Amelia snapped, glaring daggers.

Susan had never seen someone so nuts, no wonder Ethan ditched her.

"That's all in your head," Susan said coolly.

Amelia balled her fists and shot back, "Listen up, I'm just down for now. I'll bounce back, but don't get too cocky. You might end up worse than me!"

Susan was so over Amelia's drama and her constant need to one-up everyone. She felt like Amelia was a fly she just couldn't swat away.

"Yeah, we'll see," Susan said, not giving a damn.

Susan really didn't want to get into it with someone like Amelia.

Seeing Susan's whatever attitude, Amelia lost it. She stepped forward, ready to throw down.

Susan took a step back but wasn't about to let Amelia walk all over her.

Then she thought twice that if things blew up now, it would be a major embarrassment for Seb. But if Amelia was looking for trouble, Susan wasn't just gonna stand there.

Susan gripped her glass tight, eyeing the orange juice inside, thinking, 'If she tries anything, I'm chucking this juice right in her face!'

Right then, a strong arm wrapped around Susan's shoulder, pulling her into a tight hug.

Susan stumbled, leaning all her weight on the person.

In her panic, she looked up and saw a handsome face. Relief washed over her. She glanced at the glass in her hand and thought, 'Guess I won't need this after all.'

Seb gave Susan a quick look, then turned his icy gaze to the aggressive Amelia. "Amelia, you better back off from my wife, or you'll regret it," he said coldly.

Amelia stepped back, her eyes wide. "Wife?"

"Yeah, Susan and I already got our marriage license. The wedding's next month. Anyone who messes with her messes with me," Seb declared.

Amelia looked pissed but didn't dare make a move. She couldn't afford to cross Seb. She shot Susan a nasty look and sneered, "Mr. Anderson, I think you got it wrong. I don't mean any harm to Susan. After all, we used to be family."

Susan shot back, "I have no ties to you, now or ever."

"Hmph, Susan, whether you admit it or not, your mom was taken down by mine!" Amelia clung to her past victories.

"Hmph, a guy like James, only your mom would want to steal. To be honest, my mom should thank yours. She got rid of a total loser!" Susan said coldly.

"Even if he's a loser, he's still your dad. You can't run from that, Susan. You and he will always be blood," Amelia spat before turning and leaving.

Amelia's words hit Susan hard. She hated James, but she couldn't deny his blood ran through her veins. She could never escape that they were father and daughter.

Seeing the helpless look on Susan's face, Seb gently said, "Don't listen to her crap."

Susan looked up and smiled. "I know. She's just trying to get under my skin. But she's right; we can't pick our family. We have to deal with the parents fate gives us."

"But you can pick me. I'll take care of you like a dad," Seb said with a grin.

Susan immediately frowned. "I want a husband, not a dad!"

"I mean, I'll treat you like a daughter," Seb teased.

"How about I treat you like a son?" Susan shot back.

As they were joking around, a commotion broke out at the other end of the banquet hall.

Without even looking, Susan knew who it was.

Sure enough, there was Amelia, standing in front of Ethan and his new girlfriend.

Amelia had somehow gotten a glass of red wine and splashed it all over Ethan's new girl's face. "Bitch, you think you can steal my man? Here's your lesson!" she yelled.

Ethan's new girlfriend screamed, and Ethan quickly grabbed a tissue to wipe the wine off her face.

She was wearing a white evening dress, now totally ruined by the red wine.
