Chapter 1260 You Are Too Controlling
"I'm overthinking it? Daryl, you've really let me down. I don't want this future daughter-in-law. Who knows what kind of trouble she'll cause in the future?" Azalea shook off Daryl's hand.
Daryl kept his cool and tried to defend Cecilia. "Mom, you said our family can't afford to lose face. The reception's already booked, and the invitations are out. If we cancel the wedding now, no one will come to our family's events again!"
Azalea stood up, fuming. "And whose fault is that? You're always so unreliable!"
"Mom, Cecilia knows she messed up. Please, calm down. These photos are just a misunderstanding, a goodbye between friends. By the way, Mom, where did you get these photos? Someone's clearly trying to stir up trouble in our family. It's despicable!" Daryl's eyes landed on the photos on the table.
Azalea hesitated when Daryl asked about the source of the photos.
Her tone softened a bit. "Our family can't handle this kind of embarrassment. If this happens again, I won't stand for it!"
She glanced at Cecilia, who was standing nearby.
Daryl quickly gave Cecilia a look.
Cecilia got the hint and said, "Mrs. Fields, I promise I'll be more careful in the future."
"That's for the best." Azalea shot Cecilia a disdainful look and turned to go back to her room.
"Mom, it's time for dinner," Daryl quickly stood up and said.
Azalea didn't even turn around. "I'm too angry to eat. I've already given her enough respect. Your father and brother aren't home today."
With that, Azalea went back to her room.
After she left, the butler approached Daryl. "Mr. Fields, dinner is ready. Would you and Ms. Thorne like to eat here?"
Daryl replied, "No, we have other plans."
He took Cecilia's hand and they left the Fields mansion.
Once they were in the car, Daryl's expression darkened.
The car sped down the road, the streetlights casting flickering shadows inside.
After watching Daryl, who seemed focused on driving, for a long time, Cecilia cautiously asked, "Why aren't you saying anything?"
Cecilia knew that although he had defended her earlier, it didn't mean he wasn't angry. Any man would be upset seeing his future wife hugging another man. If he didn't react, he wouldn't be a man at all!
"What do you want me to say? Ask you about the details of your hug with Barry?" Daryl's tone was clearly filled with jealousy and anger.
Hearing this, Cecilia lowered her head guiltily.
Seeing her silent for a long time, Daryl suddenly slammed on the brakes.
The car screeched to a halt by the roadside!
Due to the inertia, and because she wasn't wearing a seatbelt, Cecilia's body lurched forward!
Seeing this, Daryl immediately extended his arm to stop Cecilia's body.
In the next moment, Cecilia grabbed Daryl's arm, preventing herself from hitting the dashboard.
It was clear Daryl was worried about Cecilia. When their eyes met, both of them had a bit of sweat from the scare.
Cecilia hugged Daryl's arm tightly and said in a playful tone, "You really are mad, aren't you?"
Daryl's face remained stern. "Don't you think you owe me an explanation?"
Seeing Daryl's angry expression, Cecilia quickly answered seriously, "Actually, I met Barry at the café today."
"You said you were meeting Susan and Isabella at the café. So, you lied to me?" Daryl's brows furrowed tightly.
"No!" Cecilia denied immediately, then said, "I met Susan and Isabella first, then I ran into Barry."
By the end, Cecilia's voice had softened.
"Even if you met Barry, you didn't have to hug him on the street, did you?" Daryl's voice was stiff.
Cecilia knew she had to explain clearly because Daryl looked very upset. She could feel that he was genuinely angry.
She quickly answered, "Barry's mom, Seraphine, resigned from the magazine. Barry also closed his studio in Maple Valley. He said he's going to travel with his parents around the country and then return to Zandoria. We might never see each other again. You know, I feel really guilty towards Barry. His mom helped me a lot. I was really emotional at the time, so I hugged Barry and wished him happiness."
Cecilia spoke cautiously, watching Daryl's expression change.
At this moment, she realized how much she cared about him. Her heart was racing.
"Is that all?" Daryl's face remained stern.
"Yes." Cecilia nodded blankly.
Daryl restarted the engine and the car drove back onto the road.
Cecilia sneaked a glance and saw that Daryl's expression hadn't changed. She felt a bit anxious.
She quickly said, "Oh, there's one more thing I haven't told you!"
Hearing this, Daryl slammed on the brakes again, and the car screeched to a halt by the roadside.
"What is it?" Daryl's eyes were tense as he stared at Cecilia.
Seeing Daryl's nervous expression, Cecilia couldn't help but smile. "Are you really worried about me?"
Hearing this, Daryl turned his head and angrily slapped the steering wheel.
Seeing Daryl's reaction, Cecilia quickly grabbed his hand and explained, "Don't overthink it. Barry and I were not together before, and we won't be together in the future. Last time we went on a trip, he painted an oil painting for me. He gave it to me as a wedding gift."
Hearing this, Daryl turned to Cecilia and asked, "Is that all?"
"That's all." Cecilia said.
"Where's the painting?" Daryl asked.
"In my bedroom." Cecilia answered.
Daryl suddenly said seriously to Cecilia, "From now on, you're not allowed to have any physical contact with other men!"
Seeing Daryl's jealous expression, Cecilia raised an eyebrow and said, "Not even a handshake?"
"No!" Daryl said firmly.
"Alright, I promise you. But you're being too controlling! How can you do this? I have no rights at all!" Cecilia agreed but then felt something was off, so she pouted and complained.
