Chapter 171 The Spirit of Resilience
Upon hearing this, Susan quickly grabbed her phone and was shocked to find the screen already shattered, though it didn't affect its normal use.
Holding the phone, Susan's hand stiffened for a moment because this phone was a gift from Seb.
That day, Susan was hospitalized, and they had a fight. Seb threw the phone against the wall, shattering it to pieces. So, Seb had Leon buy this phone for her. Thinking back, those scenes seemed to be still vivid in her mind.
Susan was momentarily stunned but quickly regained her composure. She opened the phone to check the messages and, sure enough, there was a text from Maiken sent in the morning. Just as George had said, her stomach was better, so she would rush back this morning to lead the tour group for today's itinerary.
Knowing this, Susan felt completely relieved. At least today, she had some time to herself.
"Let's have breakfast," George said with a smile, seeing that Susan's expression had returned to normal, and invited her to the table.
"Thank you." Susan sat on the sofa, and faced with so much delicious food, she couldn't help but swallow.
"What are you waiting for? Dig in." George reminded her with a smile when he saw Susan staring blankly at the food on the coffee table.
"Okay." Susan nodded and started eating, no longer caring about her image.
From last night until now, she had been through so much and was starving.
Seeing Susan wolfing down her food, George's smile deepened. He kept watching Susan eat as if he were admiring something, while he barely touched his own breakfast.
"Are you that hungry?" George poured Susan another cup of hot milk.
Susan's mouth was stuffed full, and she took the hot milk and drank it all in one gulp.
Putting the milk cup back on the coffee table, Susan looked up and replied, "Don't you know fighting takes a lot of energy?"
Hearing this, George turned his head and smiled, then said, "Did you get the short end of the stick fighting two people at once?"
Hearing this, Susan smirked. She reached up to touch her still bruised cheek and, with a proud tone, said, "Don't think that just because it was one against two, they didn't get any advantage. I kicked Sophia hard in the stomach and yanked out a fistful of Amelia's hair. They were both screaming in pain!"
Susan's demeanor made George chuckle and say, "You're just bragging."
"I'm telling the truth, how is that bragging?" Susan frowned, feeling that George didn't believe her.
The next moment, George stopped smiling and said seriously, "Do you want me to find someone to teach them a lesson and get back at them for you?"
Hearing this, Susan tore off a piece of bread, put it in her mouth, and said while chewing, "Forget it, I don't want to trouble you. Besides, I didn't really suffer any loss. There's no need to deal with them now. When I have the strength in the future, I'll handle them myself."
George nodded and said, "Alright, I'll do as you say. But if you ever need it, I can always help you teach them a lesson."
Although she didn't agree with George's approach, Susan still looked at him gratefully and then covered her face with her hand.
"What's wrong?" George asked nervously when he saw her frown.
Susan said with a bitter face, "I have to ask my boss for leave. I won't be able to earn money during the New Year period. I have to stay home for a week before I can go out. Otherwise, I won't have the face to see anyone!"
Hearing this, George laughed heartily. Today, Susan was very humorous, very cute, and very endearing, making him feel exceptionally relaxed. But this humor, cuteness, and endearing nature were also filled with a strong spirit of resilience in adversity, which moved George deeply.
George thought for a moment and then suggested, "Susan, have you considered changing jobs?"
"Changing jobs?" Susan frowned and looked at George, not understanding what he meant.
George continued, "You've already obtained your CPA certificate. You can find a stable and promising job. The travel agency job doesn't suit you, and it's a bit of a waste of your talent."
"How do you know I got my CPA certificate? Did Maria tell you?" Susan stared at George and asked.
"Bingo! You guessed it!" George spread his hands and admitted.
Hearing this, Susan muttered, "That Maria really can't keep a secret, and she tries to please you by telling you everything."
"So don't blame her. If I ask her something, she can't refuse to answer because I'm her boss!" George joked, taking all the responsibility onto himself.
Then, George continued, "I know you don't want to go back to Maple Valley for now. I have a good friend in Lindell Harbor who is a senior CPA and has an accounting firm there. He happens to need someone with CPA qualifications like you. The pay and benefits are much better than your current travel agency job. How about I introduce you to him?"
When George said this, Susan immediately interrupted him, "I know the pay and benefits at the travel agency are not great, but I've been working there for over a month. The boss and colleagues are really nice to me, and the agency needs people right now. The boss can't find a suitable accountant for a while, so I want to stay a bit longer."
Susan now understood that George's intentions towards her were not so simple. Even if the accounting firm George mentioned was great, she couldn't go. What George wanted, she couldn't give him, at least not now.
Susan didn't want to get involved in any relationships now. She just wanted to work hard, save some money, take good care of Catherine, and live a good life.
Hearing this, George was a bit disappointed but still smiled and nodded. "I respect your decision. But if you ever want to take that job, I can always help you with the introduction."
"Thank you." Susan nodded.
At nine o'clock, George drove Susan back to Lindell Harbor.
A two to three-hour drive wasn't too long or too short. The two of them chatted and laughed easily, like old friends.
On the way, the phone suddenly rang.
Susan took out her phone with the broken screen, looked down and said, "It's my boss calling."
Then, Susan answered the call.
"Susan, what happened? Today a guest complained that you provided poor service, used foul language, and even got into a fight with them, pulling out a large chunk of their hair. Now the tourism bureau has sent someone over to investigate thoroughly. Our travel agency might even be ordered to rectify and suspend operations," Adrian's voice on the other end of the line was already anxious.
