Chapter 328 She Had Become The Bad Guy
Linda glanced at Seb and Hayden, her smile looking faker than a three-dollar bill. She zoned out for a sec, then just nodded, mumbling, "Yeah, you two look exactly the same."
Linda never thought Seb would have a kid. Sure, there were whispers about him tying the knot, but they were just that—whispers. No one had ever been to Seb's wedding or even seen his wife.
Then it hit her that maybe Hayden was Seb's love child. Nowadays, it was so common for wealthy people to have children everywhere.
With that thought, Linda's smile got a bit more genuine. If that was the case, she still had a shot.
So, she stepped up to touch Hayden's cheek. "You're adorable!"
But before she could, Hayden dodged like a pro, looking at her like she had three heads. "It's rude to touch people without asking!"
Linda was caught off guard by Hayden's sass and felt super awkward.
Just then, Hayden waved at Spring, who was chilling in Susan's arms, and said, "Spring, come see Daddy!"
Spring got all excited, wriggled out of Susan's arms, and toddled over to the bed, shouting.
"Did you miss me, sweetie?" Seb's face lit up like a Christmas tree when he saw Spring, a total opposite to the stern dude talking to Linda a minute ago.
"Yeah." Spring's words were still a bit jumbled, but she nodded like a bobblehead. Her big eyes zeroed in on Seb's bandaged leg. She didn't get it all, but she knew something was up.
Seeing another kid in a pink princess dress, Linda was floored.
Wait, Seb had a daughter too? Was he secretly married, or did he have a bunch of kids all over the place?
Linda felt a bit dizzy but played it cool, placing the bouquet she brought into the crystal vase by the bed.
"Mr. Anderson, get well soon!" Linda said, flashing a sweet, charming smile at Seb.
"Thanks," Seb replied, ice-cold.
Right then, Spring sneezed a bunch of times, rubbing her nose with her tiny hands.
From the doorway, Susan saw this and, not wanting to butt in, but worried about Spring, quickly walked over.
Susan scooped up Spring and covered her nose with a handkerchief.
"What's up with Spring?" Seb asked, all concerned.
"She's allergic to flowers," Susan said, finally noticing the stunning woman visiting Seb was Linda. Feeling a bit awkward, she told the truth because she didn't want Spring to suffer.
Seb's face darkened. "Get rid of the flowers, now!"
Linda felt super awkward, and Susan was a bit embarrassed too.
Right then, Hayden climbed up on a stool, yanked the bouquet out of the vase, hopped down, and bolted outside with the flowers.
A second later, they heard the bouquet hitting the trash and Hayden grumbling, "Stupid flowers! You made Spring sneeze!"
Linda's face was a mix of shock and anger, and Susan tried to smooth things over with a forced smile. "Sorry, Linda. The kid's got no manners; it's on me for not teaching him better."
Susan hadn't expected Linda to drop by today. If she had, she would've kept Hayden and Spring far away. Now it looked like she was crashing Seb and Linda's moment on purpose.
Plus, Linda was her boss. Bringing the kids along made it seem like she was flaunting something, which was the last thing she wanted.
"Mommy, should we open the window to get some fresh air?" Hayden asked, looking up at Susan.
"Sure thing." Susan ruffled his hair.
Hayden dragged a stool over and opened the window. For a kid, he acted way more grown-up than you'd expect.
When Hayden called Susan "Mommy," Linda's jaw practically hit the floor.
Linda looked from Susan to Hayden and Spring, then back to Susan. "Susan, are these kids... yours?"
Susan was about to answer, but Seb cut in, "Yeah, she's their mom."
Linda and Susan both froze. Seb's words were super misleading. If Susan was the kids' mom, Linda would assume she was Seb's wife. But really, she was his ex.
"I actually..." Susan started, not wanting Linda to get the wrong idea.
After a couple of stunned seconds, Linda sneered, "I should've known. Mr. Anderson came to me several times about you, asking about your cases. So, you're a family!"
Linda's eyes were blazing with anger and disappointment. She was seriously ticked off but tried to keep it together.
"Linda, you've got it wrong," Susan tried to explain that she and Seb were divorced.
But Linda wasn't having it. "Save it. I don't know why Mrs. Anderson would work at our firm, but I get it now. I've got other things to do. Excuse me."
With that, Linda spun around and stormed out without a backward glance.
Susan took a couple of steps after her, wanting to explain, but seeing Linda's furious face, she knew it was pointless. Linda wouldn't listen.
Besides, Linda was the one jumping to conclusions, and she clearly had a thing for Seb. Susan hadn't done anything wrong, so what was there to explain?
Susan felt a wave of frustration. She'd somehow become the villain in this mess.
She turned back and saw Hayden by the bed, happily chatting away with Seb.
