Chapter 1227 Fortunately, I Have You
Over the weekend, Cecilia stayed at home and didn't go anywhere, feeling depressed.
Daryl not only came to accompany her after work these past two days but sometimes even left work early to bring his work home.
Seeing Cecilia looking listless these past two days, Daryl sat on the sofa, holding her hand, and said with concern, "If you're not in the mood, don't go to work tomorrow. Take a long vacation, and I'll take you abroad for a relaxing holiday, how about that?"
Cecilia frowned and said, "No, if I hide every time I encounter difficulties, then I might as well never go out again. I've almost adjusted, and I'll go to work tomorrow, Monday. I think Seraphine is also under a lot of pressure. If I take leave, it would be letting her down."
Hearing that Cecilia had finally come around, Daryl happily said, "Don't worry about what others think. You have to walk your path and let others have no path to walk!"
Cecilia smiled. "You've learned to be humorous now."
"It's great to see you smile." Seeing Cecilia smile happily, Daryl finally felt relieved.
Seeing the deep affection in his eyes, Cecilia felt touched and interlocked her fingers with his, apologizing, "I'm sorry, I embarrassed you this time."
Daryl reached out and hugged her head to his chest. "Why would you think that?"
"I didn't expect my relationship with Barry to be seen so poorly by others. And after breaking up with Barry, I got together with you. It's no surprise that people are talking. I didn't think it through, and I'm afraid it will embarrass you in the future," Cecilia said worriedly.
"Don't think about these messy things anymore. As long as we're happy, that's all that matters. The face is for others to see!" Daryl said seriously.
"Okay." Cecilia nodded.
Just then, his phone suddenly rang.
"I'll take this call," Daryl said, getting up to answer the phone.
"Mr. Fields, we found out that Arabella has been in close contact with Calista these past few days. Now, both of them have left Maple Valley, and we haven't found any other mastermind behind them for now," Douglas reported on the other end.
Daryl frowned and instructed, "If these two come back to Maple Valley, take action immediately and teach them a good lesson!"
"Yes," Douglas responded and then hung up the phone.
Cecilia, who had overheard his conversation with Douglas, frowned and said, "Daryl, don't complicate things further. If something happens, it will be hard to handle."
Seeing her worried look, Daryl stepped forward, patted her shoulder with a smile, and comforted her, "Don't worry, Douglas knows what he's doing. They have targeted you repeatedly and must be punished, or they will only escalate their behavior in the future."
"But..." Cecilia was a bit worried that she would cause trouble for him.
Daryl insisted, "I know what I'm doing with this matter. You don't need to worry."
Cecilia had no choice but to nod.
The next morning, as soon as Cecilia sat down at her desk.
Her colleagues in the same group looked at her cautiously.
Seeing their strange looks, Cecilia couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong?"
A young female employee said, "Cecilia, you don't know yet? Seraphine has been suspended."
Cecilia was shocked. She then asked, "When did this happen? Why was she suspended?"
The female colleague could only answer, "We just heard the news this morning. As for why, we don't know."
Cecilia felt like she was sitting on pins and needles.
Actually, she didn't need to ask to know that Seraphine's sudden suspension was definitely related to her.
Cecilia took her phone to the break room to call Seraphine.
However, Seraphine's phone was turned off.
Cecilia thought for a moment and then called Barry, who must know the situation.
Soon, the call was connected, and Barry's voice came from the other end. "Hello, this is Barry. I'm on vacation and can't take your call right now. If it's urgent, please leave a message."
Cecilia impatiently hung up the phone.
While Cecilia was feeling anxious, Marcella pushed the door open and came in.
"I knew you'd be here. What's wrong? Did you try calling Seraphine?" Marcella glanced at the still-flashing screen of Cecilia's phone.
"Do you know where Seraphine is?" Cecilia asked with a frown.
Marcella replied, "She was suddenly suspended by the board. As far as I know, she should be on vacation abroad."
Cecilia breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed Barry was accompanying Seraphine to relax.
"Do you know why Seraphine was suddenly suspended? Is it related to the annual meeting on Friday?" Cecilia asked Marcella.
Marcella frowned and replied, "The events at the annual meeting made the board very angry. They believed that some of Seraphine's improper handling damaged the magazine's image, so they temporarily suspended her."
Cecilia said indignantly, "Arabella came after me. I should be the one suspended, not Seraphine."
Cecilia felt very guilty, thinking she had implicated Seraphine.
Seeing Cecilia's agitation, Marcella quickly advised, "Calm down. Seraphine is the editor-in-chief, the one in charge of the magazine. Of course, she has to take responsibility when things go wrong. Don't worry, Vogue Vista can't operate without Seraphine. Maybe the board is just putting on a show. Someone has to take the fall, and Seraphine might be back in a few days!"
"I just feel very guilty and don't know what to do. Should I go explain to the board?" Cecilia asked with a frown.
"That's not a good idea!" Marcella immediately said.
"Why?" Cecilia asked with a frown.
"Don't you remember what Arabella said? She claimed you and Seraphine were too close, and that's why Seraphine was biased. If you go directly to plead for her, wouldn't that just confirm it? The most important thing for you now is to do your job well and prove that you are capable of handling this position. As for your past with Barry, that's a personal matter. This way, the board will believe that Seraphine's decision to promote you was fair and unbiased. Do you understand?" Marcella said.
Cecilia finally understood.
She reached out and patted Marcella's shoulder, saying, "Thank goodness for you. Otherwise, I would have done something foolish again."
