Chapter 453 Secret Crush
Seeing Isabella's bummed-out face, Susan couldn't help but crack up. "Chill out, they're my enemies, not yours. You seem way too hyped for them to get what's coming."
"I just can't stand their cockiness. Plus, your enemies are my enemies, your friends are my friends. What's yours is mine, and what's mine is yours, right?" Isabella chuckled.
Susan laughed and said, "Except for my hubby and my undies, I can share everything with you."
Isabella realized she had put her foot in her mouth and shot her a look. "Trust me, I'm not interested in your hubby or your undies."
With that, Isabella turned and bounced.
Susan shook her head, grinning.
Around noon, Susan's phone buzzed with a call from Seb.
Seeing his name pop up, Susan answered with a smile. "Mr. Anderson, where's the grub today? No need to pick me up; I can get there myself."
For some reason, not seeing him for half a day felt like forever. Susan felt herself getting more and more attached to him, wanting to be with him all the time. But he had work, and she had her own hustle. Otherwise, she'd totally be with him 24/7.
On the other end, Seb's voice was serious, "Susan, I'm sorry; something came up. I can't do lunch today."
Hearing this, Susan felt a pang of disappointment but knew he often had no choice.
She quickly switched to her understanding wife mode. "Work comes first. If you have other plans, I totally get it."
There was a pause, then he said warmly, "You're more important than work. This isn't about work."
"What are you up to at noon?" Susan asked, confused.
Seb replied, "Ethan took care of Dominic's body and set up the funeral. Dominic was a big deal in the Maple Valley business scene, and Capgemini Software has been a long-time client of Prosperity Group. So, some business folks want to pay their respects. The funeral home's out in the sticks, and I definitely won't be back by noon."
Hearing this, Susan's hand holding the phone stiffened, and she felt a mix of emotions.
"Ethan still took care of Dominic's body," Susan said.
Thinking about it, if James suddenly died, even though she'd be reluctant, she'd still take care of his body and arrange the funeral.
"Ethan and Dominic used to be tight. It was only after Ethan's mom passed that they drifted apart. They still have that bond, so it's different from you and James," Seb quickly picked up on Susan's thoughts.
She realized he really got her; he knew everything.
"Alright, you go ahead. I'll grab lunch with Isabella." Susan then hung up, feeling a bit down.
Around noon, Susan checked the time and then opened the door to leave her office.
As soon as she opened the door, she saw Isabella staring blankly at a shopping bag. When she saw Susan come out, she quickly stashed the bag under the desk.
Susan couldn't help but be curious. She and Isabella were practically sisters, and Isabella even knew almost everything about her and Seb's intimate life. What could Isabella possibly need to hide from her?
Susan marched right up to Isabella and demanded, "What did you just stash? Why are you acting all shady?"
"Who's being shady?" Isabella stammered, her face turning red like she'd been caught red-handed.
Susan narrowed her eyes, noticing Isabella's flushed cheeks, which only made her more suspicious. "What did you hide under the desk?" she asked, bending down to grab the bag.
Isabella tried to stop her. "There's nothing there."
"I saw it. Quit lying." This was the first time Susan had seen Isabella so flustered, and she knew something was up.
Isabella sighed, realizing she had no way out. She pulled the handbag from under the desk and plopped it on top. "Fine, here. You're just too nosy!"
Susan shot her a look, then peeked inside the bag. She pulled out a piece of black clothing.
Curious, Susan yanked the item out. It was a pair of men's pants, with the tag still on. Seeing the price tag, she couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.
"Did you buy this?" Susan asked, holding up the pants.
Isabella nodded.
Susan couldn't help but blurt out, "You don't have a husband or a boyfriend. Who are these for? The only guy close to you is your brother, and you haven't talked to him in ages. You wouldn't drop a grand on pants for him, would you?"
"I bought them for a male friend, okay?" Isabella crossed her arms, looking defiant.
"A male friend? What's his name? Where does he live? Where does he work? Do I know him?" Susan fired off questions like a machine gun.
Realizing she couldn't dodge anymore, Isabella finally admitted, "Alright, last time I accidentally spilled coffee on Leon's pants. They were super expensive, and I've felt bad about it. So, I wanted to get him a new pair. It's not as deep as you're making it."
Susan was quiet for a moment, then kept her eyes locked on Isabella.
"Why are you staring at me like that?" Isabella squirmed under her gaze.
Susan smirked and teased, "Something's fishy. This isn't like you. Spill it, do you have a thing for Leon?"
Isabella's face turned beet red!
"You're blushing! I knew it!" Susan pointed at her, grinning.
"If you keep talking nonsense, I'm gonna get mad. It's past noon, and I'm starving. Let's go eat." Isabella quickly changed the subject, dragging Susan along.
Susan knew Isabella too well. She had probably hit the nail on the head. Otherwise, Isabella wouldn't have blushed or tried to change the topic so fast. And today, she even generously treated Susan to a fancy lunch, which only confirmed her suspicions.
Susan felt a bit worried for Isabella. Last time, she had tried to set up Leon and Isabella, though Isabella had no clue. But Leon had flat-out said he wasn't into Isabella, so she had dropped it.
Now, if Isabella really liked Leon but he wasn't interested, Isabella was bound to get hurt. Susan was troubled, wondering how to protect her friend from heartbreak.
