Chapter 1303 Beware
Finn walked in and saw the dirty bedsheet in Cecilia's hands. She quickly rushed over and snatched it away!
Cecilia was taken aback by the sudden action.
She looked up and met Finn's eyes, noticing a flicker of anxiety in them.
"Why are you doing this yourself? Let the staff handle it," Finn said, quickly masking his nervousness with a smile.
"I used to supervise them doing these tasks. I don't quite trust them on their own," Cecilia replied with a smile.
"But Mrs. Azalea Fields has instructed me that you shouldn't have to do these things, especially in Mr. Elijah Fields' room. I'll take care of it. You should focus on your own matters," Finn insisted.
Cecilia frowned slightly, sensing something off about Finn today, but she couldn't pinpoint what it was.
Seeing Cecilia still standing there, Finn turned to the two maids behind her and scolded, "What are you standing around for? Hurry up and clean this room. Remember, from now on, you handle Mr. Elijah Fields' room. Mrs. Cecilia Fields shouldn't have to lift a finger, understood?"
"Get it," the maids responded quickly and began changing the bedsheets.
Cecilia quietly left Elijah's room.
Back in her own room, Cecilia sat on the bed, feeling unusually uncomfortable. Was Azalea already instructing Finn to exclude her now that Daryl was gone?
She couldn't help but smile bitterly at the thought.
She had already decided to leave, so why make things so difficult?
That night, Cecilia tossed and turned, unable to sleep. She hugged the pillow that still carried his scent.
Daryl had told her that this negotiation would be tough and that his phone would be off. He said she shouldn't call him and that he would contact her when he could.
Cecilia figured Daryl must have already arrived in Skyhaven. He would need to get to the hotel and catch up on the negotiation progress, so he probably wouldn't have time to call her.
As she lay in bed, memories of her and Daryl's journey from meeting to falling in love flashed through her mind like a slideshow.
The next morning, Cecilia got dressed and went downstairs.
In the dining room, Isaac and Azalea were already having breakfast.
"Good morning, Dad, Mom," Cecilia greeted them.
"Sit down and dine," Isaac said with a smile, while Azalea only gave her a glance.
"My brother called and said my mom isn't feeling well. I'd like to visit her today," Cecilia said.
Azalea frowned, but Isaac asked with concern, "Is it serious?"
"Just some old issues, nothing major," Cecilia replied.
"Then you should go. Finn, have the driver take Cecilia," Isaac instructed.
"No need, Dad. I'll take the train. I've already bought a ticket," Cecilia declined politely.
"Since she already has a ticket, let her take the train. You have plans to go out later, right? I have a shopping date with a friend," Azalea interjected.
Isaac nodded. "Alright, Finn, get some supplements together for Cecilia to take to her mom. Show them we care."
"Get it," Finn responded and went to prepare.
Azalea then asked Cecilia, "When will you be back?"
"I'll be back tonight," Cecilia replied.
She didn't want to stay at the Fields' house any longer. She planned to visit her mother and brother, stay one more night at the Fields', and then take the earliest train the next day to a place thousands of miles away, never to return to Maple Valley.
"Make sure to come back early. It's not safe to stay out overnight," Azalea said, giving Cecilia a scrutinizing look.
"Yes, Mom," Cecilia replied, feeling that Azalea's concern was unusual. Normally, Azalea wasn't so kind, but perhaps it was because Daryl wasn't around, and she didn't want to have to explain any mishaps to her son.
With their permission, Cecilia left the mansion, carrying some boxes of supplements, including collagen tonics. In this regard, the Fields family was generous, highlighting the difference between wealthy families and ordinary ones.
After breakfast, Azalea pulled Finn aside. "Do you think there's something suspicious about Cecilia wanting to visit her parents right after Daryl left?"
Finn frowned. "Are you worried about..."
"I'm worried about her and Elijah..." Azalea trailed off.
After a moment of thought, Finn suggested, "Why don't we call Mr. Elijah Fields back? That way, they can't be together."
"Yes, call Elijah and tell him I'm not feeling well and need him to take me to the hospital," Azalea instructed.
"Alright," Finn nodded and went to make the call.
Cecilia hurried back to her family home. Standing at her brother's door, she swallowed the lump in her throat—now wasn't the time for tears.
Her knock was answered by two familiar faces: Rainey, her mother, beaming with joyful surprise, and Seraphina Rosalind, her brother's wife, already reaching to take Cecilia's bag.
Rainey kept Cecilia company while Seraphina prepared lunch.
Seeing Seraphina's pregnant belly, Cecilia offered, "You're quite far along. Let me handle the cooking."
Seraphina laughed, "You're a guest. How can I let you cook? Besides, the doctor said staying active is good for the baby."
"But you're over thirty-two weeks pregnant. You should be careful," Cecilia insisted.
"You don't even know where the spices are. Just sit and chat with Mom. She's missed you," Seraphina said, pushing Cecilia onto the couch before heading to the kitchen.
Rainey smiled, "She's a good woman, hardworking and honest. Your brother is lucky."
Cecilia smiled back, feeling warmth in her family home. There were many things she wanted to tell her mother, but she could only share the good news, not the bad.
"Why did you come alone today? Where's Daryl?" Rainey asked after a while.
Since marrying Daryl, Cecilia had always returned home with him. Daryl's attentive care for Cecilia was the envy of everyone.
