Chapter 826 Cunning Person
Susan wasn't one to waste a single second. She headed straight to the door and peeked through the small window, spotting Seb leaning against the bed, engrossed in some documents.
She watched him for a bit through the glass. Besides a few minor cuts on his face, he was still as handsome as ever. If anything, the years had only made him more attractive.
Sometimes, Susan wished he wasn't so good-looking. Maybe then, fewer women would be after him, and her life would be a bit easier.
She had something important to do, something that affected not just her happiness but also her family's future and Seb's well-being. She couldn't let him be misled anymore.
With determination, Susan knocked on the door.
Her nerves were on edge. She had no idea how Seb would react when he saw her.
"Come in!" Seb's deep voice called out.
Susan took a deep breath, pushed the door open, and stepped inside.
"Back again? Did you forget something, or were you too nervous to handle the board meeting?" Seb asked, still focused on his documents, his tone gentle and relaxed.
Susan frowned. He thought she was Ellie.
She knew that tone all too well. He used to talk to her like that.
But now, it was for someone else.
"I'm not Ellie," Susan said, looking straight at Seb.
Seb's head snapped up at the sound of her voice. He saw Susan standing there in a light blue dress, her long hair cascading over her shoulders. She looked elegant and ethereal, her cream-colored heels adding to the effect. She wore almost no makeup, but an expensive diamond necklace—one he had given her just a few days ago—sparkled around her neck.
She had put it on before leaving the house, hoping it would jog his memory. After all, he couldn't have forgotten something from just a few months ago.
Seb's face darkened, and he snapped the document shut.
"What are you doing here?" His tone was anything but friendly.
Susan bristled at his tone but held her ground, stepping closer. "Seb, do you really not remember me? I'm Susan, Hayden and Spring's mom!"
"I'll never forget you're their mother. But you? It's not that I don't remember you; it's that I don't want to think about you anymore!" Seb's voice was icy, freezing Susan's heart in an instant.
Susan felt like she'd been hit with a sledgehammer. Her emotions were all over the place, and her voice got louder. "How could you not want to remember me? We have so many amazing memories together. You said you'd only love me in this lifetime. Just ten days ago, when I was still in Northstar City, you called me multiple times a day, saying you missed me and wanted me to fly to you immediately. Have you forgotten all that?"
Tears welled up in Susan's eyes, blurring her vision.
Seeing her tears, Seb frowned.
His gaze locked onto Susan, and for a moment, he felt a pang of pity.
He couldn't help but think, 'Why am I feeling this way? Didn't Susan torment me a few years ago? And hasn't she been after me just for my money and status? No, I can't let her tears get to me.'
Seb's voice turned cold. "You don't need to cry in front of me. If you want to talk about the kids, fine. But as for you and me, that's over. There's nothing more to discuss."
He turned his face away, his attitude resolute.
Susan's tears streamed down her cheeks, dripping onto her chin.
"Seb, how could you not remember me at all?" Her voice was choked with emotion.
Seb stayed silent, refusing to look at her.
Susan walked over to the bedside and suddenly grabbed Seb's hand.
"What are you doing?" Seb frowned.
Susan held his hand tightly, pleading, "Seb, give me some time to tell you about our past, okay? You'll definitely remember me!"
"Let go of me!" Seb tried to pull his hand away.
But Susan wouldn't let go, clutching his hand with both of hers. "You said you'd always love me. How could you forget me? How could you?"
Tears filled her eyes, and she was losing control.
Seb's frown deepened, and with a forceful push, he shoved Susan away.
She cried out and fell to the ground.
At that moment, the door to the ward swung open.
A tall woman in a black business suit stood there, taking in the scene.
"Why are you here again?" Ellie frowned at Susan.
Susan was stunned to see Ellie.
Seb looked up, equally surprised. "Ellie? Weren't you at the board meeting?"
Ellie glanced at Seb, then at Susan, who was slowly getting up. She walked forward, asking, "What's going on here?"
Worried Ellie would misunderstand, Seb quickly explained, "Ellie, she barged in on her own."
Ellie nodded, "I knew you wouldn't secretly see her while I was out."
"Where are the bodyguards? Weren't they outside?" Seb asked, annoyed.
"I didn't see them when I came in," Ellie replied.
Seb picked up his phone to call the bodyguards.
Susan's eyes were fixed on Seb, realizing he really cared about Ellie. He believed everything Ellie said and was worried she'd misunderstand.
Susan wiped her tears, not wanting Ellie to see her like this, but it was too late. Ellie was probably laughing at her right now.
