Chapter 261 The Bond Between Mother and Son
Seeing the scene, Susan realized Seb was late because of a car accident, and her doubts vanished.
Susan squatted down, nervously grabbing Hayden's arm. "Are you hurt anywhere else? How bad is your head injury?"
Hayden smiled. "Mommy, you cared so much!"
Susan pursed her lips.
Hayden continued, "I just scraped my head, but Daddy's arm is broken!"
He touched Seb's cast.
Susan stood up, glancing at Seb's arm without emotion.
Leon, bruised, stepped forward. "Sorry, Ms. Wilson. We had a car accident. Mr. Anderson and Hayden went to the hospital for quick bandaging, so we were late."
Susan took Hayden's hand. "Since it's nothing serious, I'll take Hayden to get his blood drawn."
As they walked inside, Hayden looked back at Seb. "Daddy, wait for me!"
Seb waved at George before locking eyes with him. With a smirk, he spoke first. "Disappointed to see both Hayden and me unscathed, aren't you?"
George replied coldly, "I don't understand."
Seb snorted. "I won't let your schemes succeed."
As they finished talk, Seb settled in silence, while George remained seated at a distance. At the blood draw window, Susan squatted and smiled at Hayden. "We're going to draw blood. Don't cry, okay?"
Hayden raised his arm. "Daddy says I'm a man. I shouldn't cry and should protect Mommy!"
Susan smiled, patting his head. "Hayden is so good!"
Seb had raised Hayden well. If he were really her son, Susan would be so happy.
Susan held Hayden as they sat in front of the window. When the nurse took out the syringe, Hayden shivered.
Susan covered Hayden's eyes and handed his arm to the nurse.
When the needle pierced, Susan turned away, tears in her eyes.
The nurse drew a tube of blood. Susan pressed an alcohol swab on Hayden's puncture site.
Hayden asked, "Mommy, why are you crying?"
"I'm not crying," Susan quickly wiped her tears.
"You are. Mommy, lying is not good," Hayden said, hugging her neck.
"I'm just sad you had to get pricked," Susan quickly said.
"You finally admit you're my mommy!" Hayden clapped excitedly.
Susan was both amused and exasperated. She had fallen into Hayden's trap.
Then it was Susan's turn for the blood draw.
When the nurse took the syringe, Hayden covered Susan's eyes. "Mommy, be good. Don't be afraid. It'll be over soon!"
Seeing Hayden's cute behavior, Susan forgot about the pain and hugged him tighter.
The nurse finished quickly. Susan and Hayden sat on a bench, his chubby hand pressing the alcohol swab on her puncture site.
"You have to press it for a minute, or the blood might come out," Hayden said, blinking his big eyes.
"You know a lot," Susan smiled.
Hayden patted his chest. "I've been in the hospital since I was one. I just got out a few days ago. I know more than some nurses!"
Susan looked at Hayden with a complex expression, thinking about how much he had suffered. Her heart ached.
A few minutes later, Susan took Hayden's hand and walked into the hallway.
Seb and George immediately approached.
"The doctor said the results will be out in three days. Let's meet here again then," Susan said.
Seb nodded and reached for Hayden's hand.
Hayden started to fuss. "I want to stay with Mommy!"
Susan frowned, looking down at Hayden with mixed emotions.
Seb frowned too. "Hayden, stop being naughty!"
"I'm not being naughty. I just want to be with Mommy!" Hayden said, looking up defiantly.
"Are you going to behave?" Seb's tone was harsh, clearly angry.
Seeing Seb angry, Hayden was scared. He quietly let go of Susan's hand, pouting but not daring to cry.
Seeing Hayden so pitiful, Susan's heart softened. She squatted down, holding his little shoulders. "Hayden, go back with Daddy first. We'll meet here again in three days. I'll bring you homemade cookies and egg tarts, okay?"
Hayden's eyes widened. "Mommy, you can make cookies and egg tarts?"
"Sure." Susan nodded.
Hayden nodded happily. "Okay, but you can't break your promise."
"I won't. We have a deal."
"Deal!"
Seeing Susan and Hayden getting along, Seb smiled faintly.
Hayden walked to Seb. Seb took his hand and said to Susan, "See you in three days!"
Seb turned and left with Hayden. Leon followed immediately.
Watching Hayden leave, Susan waved and smiled.
Hayden waved back frequently.
