Chapter 1308 Being Set Up
"How am I supposed to trust you?" Daryl asked, a smirk playing on his lips.
Cecilia looked up and replied, "With all your resources, you could find me no matter where I go, right?"
Daryl clearly wasn't satisfied with her answer.
Seeing this, Cecilia frowned and said, "Fine, I'll swear on my family's health. Is this acceptable?"
Daryl finally furrowed his brows and said, "I'll give you a week. If you don't come back to see me by then, you know the consequences. Your mom and brother will always be here."
Without waiting for Cecilia to respond, Daryl got into his car. The driver quickly closed the door behind him.
Cecilia watched Daryl's car drive away, feeling a wave of frustration.
Daryl knew she wouldn't dare disobey him, yet he still made her swear before leaving.
As the car disappeared from view, Cecilia felt a sudden wave of exhaustion wash over her.
All her plans had been thrown into disarray.
Daryl's sudden appearance meant she couldn't just leave town as she had planned.
Even worse, he had misunderstood her relationship with Elijah.
Oh God! Just thinking about it made Cecilia's head throb.
Daryl's expression had been so dark today, and he hadn't gone to Skyhaven, almost as if he was deliberately trying to catch her and Elijah together.
Cecilia couldn't figure it out. Had Daryl suspected her and Elijah for a long time?
After thinking about it for a while, Cecilia's head hurt even more. She shook her head, deciding it was pointless to dwell on it.
She turned and headed back to the hospital.
Seraphina stayed in the hospital for another five days. Back home, Cecilia hit the grocery store, stocked the fridge with fresh meat and veggies, and got the house in order—like she always did. Seeing that Seraphina's mood and health were slowly improving and that Daryl's seven-day deadline was approaching, Cecilia decided it was time to leave.
Beau took Cecilia to the train station. With tears in his eyes, he said, "Cecilia, I don't know what we would have done without you. You saved Seraphina's life and covered the medical expenses. We'll pay you back as soon as we can."
Cecilia replied, "Beau, there's no need to be so formal with me. We're family. And I feel guilty about what happened to Seraphina. If I hadn't come back suddenly, she wouldn't have..."
Beau interrupted, "Don't blame yourself. It's not your fault. Seraphina and I were destined to lose that child."
Cecilia was touched by Beau's understanding. "Don't worry about the money. It's mine, and I have no other use for it."
Beau nodded, then suddenly said, "I need to tell you something, but don't tell Mom or Seraphina."
"What is it?" Cecilia asked, noticing the serious look on Beau's face.
Beau frowned and said, "Seraphina's body took a big hit, and she had a C-section. The doctor said she can't have kids for at least five years, and it might be tough for her to get pregnant again."
Cecilia's mouth fell open. "How could this happen?"
She couldn't believe Seraphina was going through the same ordeal as her. Why were they both so unlucky?
"Seraphina's survival is enough for me. As for kids, we'll leave that to fate. But don't tell Mom. She's desperate for grandkids, and her health isn't great. Mom would be heartbroken if she knew. But C-sections usually mean a 3-year recovery—at least that'll buy me some time before the baby questions start." Beau instructed.
Cecilia nodded, deeply moved by Beau's love for Seraphina.
Soon, the train arrived. Cecilia boarded, waving at Beau as the train pulled away.
Sitting by the window, she watched Beau fade into the distance.
Daryl's patience and understanding had also touched her deeply. But she couldn't understand why he had suddenly changed, suspecting her of being involved with Elijah. The thought made her too anxious to continue thinking about it.
Back in Maple Valley, Cecilia went straight to the Fields Mansion.
As soon as she entered the living room, she was met with strange looks from Azalea and the butler, Finn.
"Mrs. Cecilia Fields?" Finn said, frowning at her.
"Mom, I'm back. I'm sorry, my brother's wife had a difficult labor, so I stayed to help for a week." Cecilia said respectfully, standing in the middle of the living room.
Azalea looked at her with disdain. "Cecilia, how dare you come back? I can't believe your shamelessness!"
Cecilia was stunned. Although Azalea had never been friendly, she had never been this openly hostile.
"Mom, what do you mean? I don't understand." Cecilia said calmly.
She was used to Azalea's hostility.
"Still pretending? Fine, I'll make it clear." Azalea said, throwing a stack of photos onto the table.
Cecilia frowned, stepping forward to pick up a couple of the photos. Her eyes widened in shock.
"How could this be?" She picked up more photos, all showing her with Elijah. She was crying, and Elijah had his arm around her, comforting her. The photos made them look like a couple.
"Stop pretending. I've never seen such a shameless woman. Flitting between my two sons, Elijah is your husband's brother! How could you do this? Daryl loves you so much, and you've let him down. What did the Fields family do to deserve you?" Azalea ranted.
Cecilia's mind was reeling. Her hands shook as she held the photos, her mind blank. How had these photos come to be?
She frowned, recognizing the background and the orchid in the photos. She remembered it was the day Azalea had said so much to her, and she had run to the greenhouse to cry.
