Chapter 694 Deep Love
Seeing Seb in a dazed state, Leon stepped forward and whispered, "Mr. Anderson, I feel there's something fishy about this car accident."
"What do you mean?" Seb was currently immersed in the sudden death of Rylee and couldn't think straight.
Leon continued, "Ms. Anderson died in the crash. Andrew and Ms. Anderson were in the same car, but he only suffered minor injuries. And a few days ago, Ms. Anderson mentioned transferring her shares of Prosperity Group to you for free. I think..."
Leon didn't finish his sentence. Seb stared at the end of the hallway and said, "I've always had people protecting Rylee because I was afraid Andrew might harm her. But this time... this time we were careless. We only had people following from a distance, and then this happens."
"This is just my suspicion; it could still be an accident," Leon said.
"Whether it's an accident or not, you need to find out the truth!" Seb said with a stern face.
"I'll get right on it," Leon nodded.
That day, Susan was busy in her office when Isabella suddenly pushed the door open without knocking.
Susan looked up and saw Isabella's shocked face. She frowned and asked, "What's wrong with you?"
"I just called Leon. He said Rylee had a car accident and died on the spot!" Isabella said, her face pale.
Hearing this, Susan was stunned!
Susan froze, the blood draining from her face. "What? That's impossible! Are you sure? Maybe... maybe she's just badly hurt?" She couldn't comprehend the news, couldn't accept it.
"It's true. The Anderson family is already preparing for Rylee's funeral," Isabella said.
Hearing this, Susan suddenly stood up, grabbed her purse, and ran out.
"Where are you going?" Isabella chased after her and asked.
"I'm going out for a bit," Susan shouted and ran out of the accounting firm.
Susan hailed a cab and rushed to Seb's villa.
All the way, Susan's heart was filled with anxiety.
Susan was worried that Seb would be heartbroken. Carol had died just over six months ago, and now Rylee was gone too. His father was practically out of the picture. To lose everyone he loved in such a short span of time... even a man as strong as Seb would surely crumble.
Susan thought that although she still had feelings for Seb, they had faded a lot due to mutual hurt. But at this moment, Susan realized she still loved him deeply.
Susan knew that given her current relationship with Seb, she couldn't comfort him, but she was worried he wouldn't be able to accept the news and might have a mental breakdown.
So, she ran to his villa, hoping to catch a glimpse of him from afar, just to know he was okay.
After waiting at the villa gate for several hours, Susan didn't see anyone enter or leave the villa.
Unable to bear it any longer, Susan hesitated for a moment and then called Leon.
The call was quickly answered, and Leon's voice came through. "Ms. Wilson?"
"Leon, how is he now?" Susan asked urgently.
"He's very depressed but hasn't lost his mind. I could just say he's holding up," Leon said, glancing at Seb, who was sitting at his desk smoking, then walked to a corner and answered softly.
Hearing this, Susan breathed a sigh of relief but still worried. "Take good care of him. I'm afraid he won't be able to handle this blow."
"I understand," Leon nodded.
Susan knew she had no standing to comfort Seb, and he wouldn't accept her comfort, so she reluctantly hung up the phone.
Two days later, at Rylee's funeral, Susan hesitated but still wore a black outfit and went to the cemetery.
It was already December, and the weather was exceptionally cold. Snowflakes were falling from the sky as Rylee's urn was buried in the white snow.
Susan knew she wasn't welcome, so she stood far away and watched everything.
In the pine-surrounded cemetery, the distant mourners in black created a solemn and sorrowful atmosphere.
Susan looked from afar at Seb, who was wearing a black coat and sunglasses. She couldn't see his eyes but could see his expressionless face.
All his attention was on the slowly descending urn. Susan knew the successive losses of his loved ones were a huge blow to him, and she felt heartache but couldn't go up to comfort him.
At this moment, a middle-aged woman in a black coat walked over.
"Mom? When did you get here?" Seeing Catherine, Susan was momentarily stunned but not surprised. After all, with Rylee's death, Todd would definitely show up, despite the strained relationship and the lingering resentment over his divorce from Carol and subsequent marriage to Catherine.
"As soon as we heard about Rylee's accident, Todd and I came," Catherine replied, looking at the distant mourners.
Susan had seen Todd standing in front of Rylee's headstone earlier. The sorrow of an old man losing his daughter was very sympathetic, but no matter how much he cried, Rylee wouldn't come back.
After not seeing each other for a long time, Susan felt less close to Catherine. She could see that Catherine was living well now, dressing more tastefully and carrying herself with more elegance and grace. Her skin also looked good, indicating she was happy with Todd. Catherine had suffered all her life, and meeting Todd in her old age was her good fortune.
But for some reason, Susan felt less close to Catherine. Maybe Catherine's focus was no longer on her and Dorothy. Her primary identity now was Todd's wife.
"How are things between you and Seb?" Catherine asked with a frown.
Hearing this, Susan knew Catherine already knew about her divorce from Seb. Such things could be hidden for a while but not forever.
So, Susan smiled bitterly and said, "We're divorced. What else could it be?"
"Is there really no chance of reconciliation?" Catherine pressed, unwilling to give up hope.
"No," Susan shook her head.
Hearing this, Catherine sighed regretfully. "If it can't be helped, don't force it. You're still young. If you find someone suitable in the future, go for it."
"Okay," Susan didn't argue but nodded obediently.
No matter what she thought, she could only reassure Catherine at this moment.
