Chapter 1126 Clarification

Upon hearing this, Cecilia replied, "When I was studying abroad in Northstar City, Barry and I went to the same school."

Hearing this, Marcella widened her eyes and said, "So you two are schoolmates?"

"Yes." Cecilia nodded.

Then, Marcella whispered a kind reminder, "When Barry pulled you away just now, you didn't see it, but Calista was furious. You're definitely going to have trouble this time!"

Hearing this, Cecilia frowned.

"But I think Barry seems to like you. When he saw you, his eyes lit up, but he didn't even glance at Calista, who has been trying to seduce him," Marcella gossiped.

"Don't talk nonsense. We are just schoolmates." Cecilia quickly clarified.

"By the way, do you have a boyfriend?" Marcella suddenly asked.

"No, why?" Cecilia lied when answering this question, feeling a bit flustered and guilty. After all, Marcella was straightforward and very warm towards her. Cecilia had learned a lot about the company from her, and she had been a great help.

"If you don't have one, you should consider Barry. He's not only handsome but also runs his own art studio. His mom is the editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine, and his dad is a CEO. Where else can you find such a good man? Don't let Calista get to him first, or you'll regret it." Marcella kindly advised Cecilia.

Cecilia could only smile helplessly at these words.

Barry indeed had many good qualities and was very attentive to her. Unfortunately, her heart was already shattered, and she didn't want to get involved in a relationship. Moreover, she was already pregnant. Her only motivation now was to earn money and raise her kid.

While Cecilia and Marcella were whispering, Calista's voice suddenly called out.

"Cecilia!" Calista's voice was heavy, carrying a certain emotion.

Marcella immediately patted Cecilia's shoulder and whispered, "Be careful!"

"Coming!" The next moment, Cecilia quickly ran into the office.

"Ms. Day, you were looking for me?" Cecilia asked respectfully, standing in front of Calista's desk.

Sitting in her swivel chair, Calista glanced up and glared at Cecilia. "I advise you not to think that just because you have connections, you can slack off at work. Here, I only look at your work results and attitude. If you don't perform well, I'll tell Seraphine not to make you permanent. Do you understand?"

"Get it," Cecilia replied, her face looking grim.

She knew Calista was insinuating that she had gotten close to Barry, who was the son of the editor-in-chief, Seraphine.

"Good. Now, take these drafts and proofread them immediately. There can't be any mistakes!" Calista then threw a stack of manuscripts onto the desk.

Although Cecilia was very angry, she knew she couldn't confront Calista directly. She had to endure until her probation period was over because she really needed this job.

These drafts had to be proofread today, so Cecilia had to stay and work overtime.

After everyone else had left, Marcella came over, looked at Cecilia sympathetically, and complained, "Calista is clearly using her position for personal revenge. These drafts aren't that urgent; they could be proofread by next Monday. She just wants you to finish them today!"

"Anyway, it's my job. You should hurry and leave; didn't you have a date with your boyfriend?" Cecilia smiled.

"Yes, otherwise I would help you out," Marcella said guiltily.

"Alright, go on. I'm single anyway, so working overtime isn't boring." Cecilia laughed.

Then, Marcella left the office.

That night, Cecilia worked until eleven o'clock to finish the job.

The next day, when she handed the documents to Calista, Calista still nitpicked. Cecilia understood that Calista was holding a grudge because of Barry.

For the next week, Calista deliberately made things difficult for Cecilia, who had to endure it silently.

However, Calista only assigned Cecilia menial tasks and proofreading work, not allowing her to participate in interviews or column production. This made it difficult for Cecilia to show satisfactory performance during her probation period. Without a good performance, it would be hard for her to become a permanent employee, so Cecilia had been worried for days.

After work one day, Cecilia and Marcella walked out of the office building.

"Calista is clearly retaliating against you by not letting you participate in any interviews or column production. This way, you definitely won't pass your probation period. She's so vicious!" Marcella complained.

Cecilia frowned and remained silent.

"Hey, say something. You can't just sit and wait for death, right?" Marcella asked anxiously.

"Except for that, what can I do? If I can't become permanent, I'll just find another job," Cecilia said, frowning.

It was clear that Calista didn't want her to become permanent. If her immediate superior didn't like her, there was nothing she could do. Now, she could only wait to get this month's salary and then look for another job.

Cecilia subconsciously touched her flat belly. Fortunately, it was still flat, and she could probably hold on for a few more months without anyone noticing she was pregnant.

"But this is so frustrating!" Marcella said indignantly.

At this moment, a tall figure standing not far away saw Cecilia's worried face and frowned.

Then, Cecilia inadvertently looked up and suddenly saw Barry standing in front of her, which made her stunned.

Seeing Cecilia stop in her tracks, Marcella followed her gaze and opened her mouth wide. "Cecilia, Barry is here. Is he here to see you?"

Hearing this, Cecilia said, "Don't talk nonsense."

"Okay. I won't disturb you two. Bye-bye!" The next moment, Marcella winked at Cecilia, waved, and left.

Then, Barry walked up to Cecilia and smiled. "I happened to be passing by and saw you getting off work. How about it? Do you have time today? I'll treat you to dinner."

"I..." Cecilia was about to refuse.

But Barry quickly said, "If you're not free today, that's okay. We can schedule for tomorrow or the day after. I'm now permanently based in Maple Valley, so I'm available anytime."

Hearing this, Cecilia couldn't refuse anymore and said, "Let's do it today then."

"I know a great restaurant nearby. Shall we try it?" Barry was overjoyed when Cecilia agreed.

An hour later, the two were sitting in a bright and clean restaurant, having dinner.
