Chapter 452 Helplessness

Seb was caught off guard for a sec, then he grinned and said, "Why'd you suddenly wanna know?"

Seeing Seb's kinda sketchy vibe, Susan frowned and got serious, "Spill the beans, no lies!"

Seb looked at her and said, "Ain't nothing to lie about. He came by twice."

When Susan heard James had actually visited Seb, she got all anxious, "How much cash did you give him?"

"Not much, two grand each time, so four grand total," Seb said, keeping it real.

Susan got even more worked up, raising her voice, "You gave him two grand last time, and now another four grand? This is just gonna make him greedier. He'll keep hitting you up for more!"

Seb chuckled, reached out to touch her face, and said, "Now you're worried about me blowing too much dough, huh?"

Susan pulled his hand away, "I'm serious, and you're joking around."

Seeing she was genuinely worried, Seb held her hand and said, "Chill, I got this. I've been in the game for years and seen all kinds of folks."

"You haven't met anyone as shameless as James," Susan snorted.

Seb said, "He was homeless for a bit, so he just rented a place. You know how crazy rent is in Maple Valley now. He had to pay a deposit, so the two grand was just enough. After that, he needed some furniture and stuff, which all costs money."

"I'm sorry. I'm just scared he'll keep leeching off you," Susan said, softening up as she realized Seb had a point.

"I know you're worried I'll blow too much cash. You're such a penny-pincher," Seb teased.

"Get outta here!" Susan laughed and scolded him, but still reminded him, "Don't give him too much in the future."

"I got it. Now that he's got a place and the basics, I'll just give him eight hundred bucks a month. Enough to get by, but not enough to blow," Seb said.

Susan nodded but still felt a bit bitter. "These years, I've always wanted to cut ties with him, but he's always been in my life, Catherine's, and Dorothy's. Now he's even asking you for money. All my efforts feel wasted, but what can I do?"

Seeing Susan's distressed look, Seb comforted her, "Even if you don't wanna admit it, he's your dad, and that won't change. If you push him too far, like Dominic today, you'll feel guilty forever. So it's just a bit of money; don't stress."

At that moment, Susan looked into Seb's eyes, feeling super touched and happy. She was moved by everything he did for her and glad he really got her. Even if she didn't wanna admit it, she had thought the same.

"Thanks," Susan said, her eyes welling up, but that's all she managed to say.

Seb squeezed her shoulder and said, "Hey, we're a team. Whatever I do for you, it's just part of the deal."

Susan grinned and joked, "Just trying to keep you motivated."

Seb pinched her cheek. "You're awesome at everything, except you're stubborn as a mule!"

"More stubborn than you?" Susan said, holding onto Seb's arm as they left the villa.

"A hundred times more stubborn!" Seb laughed.

Leon drove them to Susan's office building.

Before she got out, Seb held her hand and said, "Lunch together?"

"If you're buying, I'm in," Susan said, her eyes sparkling.

Seb chuckled, "There's a nice spot nearby. I already owe the owner a bit, so let's add to the tab."

"As long as it's your tab," Susan smiled and hopped out of the car.

Susan walked straight into the building, but not before sneaking a peek through the glass door. Sure enough, Seb's car only pulled away after he saw her go inside.

He was always like that, making sure she was safe before leaving. They might joke around every morning, but deep down, they really cared about each other. That's how life should be—steady and enduring.

As soon as she walked into the office, Isabella grabbed her and started chattering. "Did you hear? Dominic jumped to his death last night!"

Susan walked into her office, nodding. "Yeah, I heard first thing this morning."

Isabella sighed. "They say he jumped from the top of the Capgemini Software Company building, over thirty floors. It was a gruesome sight. His body was smashed to pieces."

Susan clutched her chest. "It's too early for this kind of talk, okay?"

"But he wasn't pitiful. He was so heartless to his ex-wife and ruthless to his son. This is karma!" Isabella said.

"Alright, he's gone. Let's not talk about it," Susan said, sitting at her desk, not wanting to hear any more about Dominic.

Isabella turned and sat across from Susan, smiling. "Okay, no more Dominic talk. So, what do you think will happen to Sophia and Amelia now that he's gone?"

"Their good days are over," Susan replied.

Isabella crossed her arms and thought for a moment. "I don't think they'll be too bad off. Sophia must have stashed some personal funds while she was with Dominic. Even if she doesn't have much cash, she should have plenty of jewelry, diamonds, luxury bags, and clothes. Selling those should keep them afloat for a while."

Susan thought, 'A woman like Sophia wouldn't let herself suffer. It's just wild that Dominic's words about her becoming a widow came true so fast.'

"Hmph, Sophia and Amelia still haven't faced any real consequences. God must be blind," Isabella said, standing up in frustration.
