Chapter 179 I Have Nothing to Do with You Anymore

Susan bounced back quickly and dove into her busy work.

Two months flew by, and it was early summer. The guys switched to short sleeves, and the women wore light dresses.

That afternoon, just before clocking out, Susan got a WhatsApp message.

[Ms. Wilson, free for dinner tonight?]

It was from George. Susan frowned.

Since that day, George rarely bothered her. When he visited Lindell Harbor, he'd bring specialties from Maple Valley. They'd had a meal or two together.

George would occasionally send her WhatsApp messages, usually holiday greetings or reminders to take care of herself, like any regular friend.

Because of this, Susan found it hard to ignore his messages. She thought if they were just friends, it wouldn't be so bad.

After staring at the message for a bit, Susan replied.

[Here on a business trip again?]

George always said he was in town for work and wanted to see her. She knew his routine by heart.

Sure enough, her phone buzzed again.

[I have a case that needs my attention.]

Susan smiled. She wondered what case could make a top lawyer like George travel so much.

But she didn't call him out. Instead, she replied cheerfully.

[My treat. How about barbecue tonight?]

Since moving to Lindell Harbor, Susan had been on her own. When busy, she'd grab a quick bite. The small restaurants here were pretty good. Unlike bustling Maple Valley, where small eateries were rare, Lindell Harbor had them everywhere.

[Sure.] Susan expected George to object, given his elite status. But he agreed right away.

After work, as soon as Susan stepped out of Jessica Accounting Firm, she saw George's Range Rover parked by the curb.

Seeing her, George got out, waved, and opened the passenger door for her like a gentleman.

Susan smiled and got in.

George started the engine, and the Range Rover merged into traffic.

Jessica stood on the steps, watching the car fade away, her eyes filled with sadness and loss.

As night fell, George, in a suit, and Susan, in a dress, sat at a barbecue stall eating.

Susan looked around at the smoky surroundings and laughed. "You're probably the most overdressed person here!"

George glanced at the casually dressed crowd. "Looks like I need to buy some casual clothes."

"What size do you wear? A colleague's husband runs a brand-name boutique here with great discounts. I can get you a set!" Susan offered.

Last time, she accepted a pricey phone from George. It was time to return the favor. A set of brand-name casual wear would cost a couple of thousand dollars, and with a discount, it was a steal.

"I wear extra-large." Susan expected George to decline politely, but he just smiled and gave his size.

"Alright, I'll send you some photos on WhatsApp to choose from," Susan laughed.

She liked straightforward people and disliked those who were overly reserved.

"Thanks in advance," George said generously.

Susan smiled, and they continued eating and chatting.

They talked about work, life, and gossip. Susan realized she enjoyed talking with George.

In this city, she hadn't found anyone she could talk to so much.

Every day, Susan was busy with monotonous work, then cooked, ate, and slept alone. Her life was dull but peaceful, which kept her from feeling anxious. She wanted to keep living this way.

Around nine o'clock, the car parked in front of Susan's apartment building.

"I'm heading back early tomorrow. These are some specialties from Maple Valley for you. Your cooking is good; you can make something with them," George said, handing Susan a tote bag from the back seat.

Looking at the Maple Valley goodies, Susan felt a warmth in her heart. She used to eat these often in Maple Valley. Now, she missed them, as they were hard to find in Lindell Harbor.

"Thank you," Susan smiled.

"It's late. You should go in," George said, his eyes shining deeply as he looked at Susan.

Susan was most afraid of this kind of gaze from George because it made her feel pressured. She quickly opened the car door and said, "Goodbye!"

Watching the Range Rover drive away, Susan turned around with the tote bag.

As she turned, she suddenly saw a shadow behind her, making her heart skip a beat and her legs go weak.

It was a man, tall and broad, wearing a white shirt and black pants, his eyes gleaming coldly in the dark.

In the dim streetlight, Susan finally saw the face of the person behind her.

Seeing Seb's stern face, Susan's hand slowly dropped from her chest.

She never expected to see Seb at this moment. Wasn't he supposed to be completely out of her life?

Why was he suddenly in front of her?

Even a fool would know that it wasn't a coincidence to run into Seb downstairs at her place. He must have planned it.

With a hint of suspicion, Susan's tone turned cold. "It's you?"

Seb took two steps forward, standing in front of her, his eyes filled with anger and disdain. "Did I interrupt your good time?"

Hearing Seb's disdainful words, Susan's face immediately darkened. She coldly replied, "I have nothing to do with you anymore. Whoever I spend time with is none of your business!"

Without giving Seb a chance to speak, Susan turned and walked into the building in a huff.

Her steps were quick, and she felt a bit annoyed. At this point, what right did Seb have to still interfere in her life?
