Chapter 1351 Soft-hearted
Just then, Thaddeus, who had been crawling away, suddenly turned around and glanced at the sofa where Daryl was sitting. He quickly crawled back.
Thaddeus soon reached Daryl, lifted his big round eyes, and looked at Daryl, who was reading the newspaper. He then extended his chubby little hand and tugged at Daryl's pant leg.
Daryl, still engrossed in his newspaper, glanced at Thaddeus, who had crawled back, and chose to ignore him. Why had this little kid come back again?
He refocused on his newspaper, pretending Thaddeus didn't exist.
Cecilia, watching from the stairs, felt a pang of conflict in her heart.
If she didn't want to avoid Daryl, she would have rushed downstairs to pick up Thaddeus. She didn't want her son to face such coldness.
But Thaddeus was persistent. His chubby hand kept tugging at Daryl's pant leg, and he made babbling sounds.
Finally, Daryl, annoyed by the tugging, threw the newspaper aside and frowned at Thaddeus. "What do you want, Thaddeus? Can't you see I'm reading? You're bothering me."
Thaddeus ignored him and continued to tug at Daryl's pant leg.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Daryl, unable to hit or scold the chubby little boy, tried to keep a stern face.
But the little guy didn't seem scared. His big, adorable eyes looked at Daryl, and suddenly he giggled, his eyes turning into bright crescents, making him look as cute and innocent as a chubby cherub.
Thaddeus babbled at Daryl.
Daryl frowned, unable to understand what the little guy was saying.
Thaddeus suddenly pointed to the floor beneath him and shouted.
Daryl looked down and saw a puddle of water that had appeared at some point.
He quickly stood up and shouted, "Did you pee?"
Thaddeus, startled by Daryl's loud voice, began to cry.
Hearing Thaddeus cry, Cecilia's heart tightened, and she wanted to rush downstairs.
But after taking a step, she stopped.
She watched Daryl, who seemed at a loss, and wondered how he would react.
People weren't made of stone; maybe this was a good opportunity for Thaddeus and Daryl to bond. Although Cecilia didn't want any ties with Daryl, she didn't want to deprive her son of a father's love.
"Where is everyone? Where did they all go?" Daryl, a grown man, had no idea how to take care of a child, especially one who had peed all over the place.
Seeing the child crying pitifully, Daryl, despite his usual indifference, couldn't help but feel a bit soft-hearted.
It was just bad timing; the maids were probably on their lunch break, and no one was in the main house. Azalea was out in the garden with Finn, so no one answered Daryl's calls.
With no other option, Daryl looked down at the crying Thaddeus.
He frowned, then suddenly bent down and picked Thaddeus up from the floor.
At first, Daryl was grossed out by Thaddeus's wet pants, but soon he held him in his arms, though his way of holding the child was awkward.
Cecilia, standing on the stairs, couldn't help but laugh at Daryl's clumsy way of holding Thaddeus. But after laughing, she felt a deep sadness.
He was Thaddeus's father, and Thaddeus was almost a year old, yet this was the first time he had held his son. It was a bittersweet moment.
Holding the still-crying Thaddeus, Daryl frowned and said, "Can you stop crying, please?"
Thaddeus continued to cry, ignoring Daryl.
Daryl had no choice but to walk back and forth in the living room with Thaddeus in his arms. He soon realized that Thaddeus was probably uncomfortable because of the wet pants, so he quickly took off Thaddeus's clothes, leaving him naked and adorably chubby.
Finally, Thaddeus stopped crying, and Daryl ended up playing with him on the sofa.
Seeing this, Cecilia felt a sense of wonder. Was this what they meant by blood being thicker than water? Despite Daryl's deliberate distance, he couldn't resist Thaddeus's cuteness. Deep down, he did like the child; he just couldn't get past his own barriers.
At that moment, Finn walked into the living room and was surprised to see Daryl playing with Thaddeus on the sofa. "Mr. Fields, are you taking care of Thaddeus?"
"Yeah, he peed his pants. Go get him some clothes," Daryl said, standing up and turning to leave as soon as he saw Finn.
"I'll get Thaddeus's clothes right away," Finn said, hurrying to Azalea's room, where Thaddeus's clothes were kept.
But Thaddeus grabbed Daryl's shirt and pointed at the toy he was playing with, babbling something.
"What do you mean?" Daryl frowned, looking down at Thaddeus.
Thaddeus continued to babble.
Cecilia, standing on the stairs, understood Thaddeus's meaning. He wanted Daryl to play with him.
"You want me to play with you? You wish. I don't have time for that," Daryl said, understanding Thaddeus's request but scoffing at it.
Thaddeus, realizing Daryl didn't want to play with him, started to cry again.
Seeing Thaddeus rubbing his eyes, Daryl felt both frustrated and helpless. Finally, he sat back down on the sofa. "Alright, I'll play with you for a bit, but just for a bit. My time is precious!"
Seeing Daryl sit back down, Thaddeus stopped crying and excitedly handed a toy to Daryl.
Watching this scene from the stairs, Cecilia felt a mix of emotions. Daryl and Thaddeus had broken the ice in such an unexpected way.
Seeing them play with toys on the sofa, Cecilia hesitated for a moment, then turned and went upstairs.
With Finn coming, she didn't want anyone to see her secretly watching Daryl and Thaddeus.
Back in her room, Cecilia sat on the bed, her heart unable to calm down for a long time.
