Chapter 1242 Smoothly
Cecilia was floored when she saw the diamond ring in the box.
What was Daryl trying to say? Was he actually proposing?
Her heart was pounding like crazy.
Cecilia couldn't help but mock herself internally, 'Calm down, why are you getting so worked up?'
Then Daryl grinned and said, "You know, I thought we should buy the tickets before getting on the train. But now that we've accidentally boarded, we might as well figure out how to get the tickets ASAP, right?"
"Come on, if you're proposing, just say it. Why all the cryptic talk?" Cecilia laughed.
So that was why he was gone all morning—he was out buying the ring, making her worry.
Daryl then took the ring out of the box, grabbed Cecilia's hand, and started to slip it onto her left ring finger.
Cecilia quickly tried to pull her hand back and protested, "Hey, did I say I'd marry you? You're just putting the ring on me?"
Daryl held onto her hand and firmly placed the ring on her finger. "You're already mine. Do I need your permission?"
"Hey, I haven't married you yet, and you're already treating me like this!" Cecilia said, annoyed.
Daryl just smiled and ignored her protest, looking down at the ring on her finger. "It fits perfectly."
Hearing this, Cecilia looked down at the dazzling diamond ring on her finger and couldn't help but smile. "I love this style!"
Daryl placed Cecilia's hand in his palm, admiring the ring. "This diamond is only one and a half carats. You don't think it's too small, do you?"
At his words, Cecilia finally noticed the size of the diamond.
To be honest, for an ordinary girl like her, a one-and-a-half-carat diamond ring was already huge. Although the staff at Vogue Vista magazine in Maple Valley earned decent salaries, she had seen many married and engaged women with rings no larger than one carat.
But for someone from Daryl's wealthy background, a one-and-a-half-carat ring might just be the starting point.
Actually, as long as it was from Daryl, even a 0.1-carat ring would be cherished by her.
But she couldn't let him be too satisfied, so she raised her chin and said, "Wearing this out is already risky enough. Do you want me to get kidnapped? A bigger one would make me feel unsafe. But seriously, are you trying to save money on me?"
Cecilia's face held a teasing smile with her last sentence.
Daryl played with the ring on her finger and laughed. "The money for this ring came from a design job I did for a company back in Northstar City. The payment was just enough to buy this ring. But it means a lot to me because I earned it entirely on my own, not from Fields Corporation. This way, it shows my sincerity!"
Cecilia was taken aback by his words.
She gazed at Daryl's serious expression, and the teasing smile on her face disappeared.
Honestly, Cecilia felt deeply moved. She never expected the ring to have such significance.
This small ring, worth at least tens of thousands of dollars, represented all the hard work Daryl had put into that design job, likely spending countless hours drawing plans. She could imagine his effort.
Cecilia gently touched the ring on her finger, tears welling up. "I love this ring. I'll take good care of it. As long as I'm alive, it will be too."
Daryl reached out and stroked her head. "It's just a thing. How can it compare to your life? Nothing is more important than you. You need to live well so we can grow old together."
Looking into Daryl's deep eyes, Cecilia suddenly felt like crying.
She had grown up in a tough environment, especially after leaving home for school and work, relying on herself for everything. Now, she finally had a strong shoulder to lean on. Cecilia felt incredibly lucky.
"You have to live well too, so we can grow old together," Cecilia murmured, lying on Daryl's shoulder.
"Absolutely!" Daryl tightened his grip on her hand.
After a moment of cuddling, Daryl looked out at the endless ocean with hope in his eyes. "When we get back, I'll start planning the wedding. Let's get married as soon as possible. I don't want to be apart from you anymore."
Hearing this, Cecilia quickly lifted her head, worry in her eyes. "But your parents still don't approve of our marriage."
Seeing her concern, Daryl smiled. "Don't worry, I'll find a way to get their approval."
"Don't confront them. We can't rush this. We need to take our time," Cecilia urged.
She knew Azalea's stance and doubted she would agree to their marriage anytime soon. Cecilia was worried Daryl might clash with his parents.
"Leave it to me. Just be ready to be my bride," Daryl said with a tone that brooked no argument.
Seeing his confidence, Cecilia felt optimistic too. She smiled and nestled into Daryl's embrace, enjoying his warmth and care, and dreaming of becoming his bride.
For the next few days, Daryl stayed by Cecilia's side, never leaving her for a moment.
One sunny afternoon, with the waves crashing, the blue sky, white clouds, seagulls, palm trees, and the two of them created a beautiful scene.
Cecilia, in a one-piece swimsuit, sat on the beach with her long hair flowing and sunglasses on. Daryl held her hand as they both gazed at the ocean.
Cecilia leaned against Daryl's bare arm, feeling his strength and masculine presence.
"How about I teach you to swim?" Daryl suggested again.
"No," Cecilia shook her head once more. She had been afraid of water since she was a child, and she really didn't have the energy to learn to swim now. She just wanted to sit on the beach and enjoy the view. She felt weak all over, as Daryl had been insatiable in their lovemaking these past few days, leaving her exhausted.
"At first, it might be scary, but once you learn, you'll enjoy it," Daryl encouraged, thinking she was just afraid.
"I don't want to be a fish right now. I just want to lie here quietly," Cecilia said, lying down on the sand.
