Chapter 738 Cold as Ice
Looking at the door that separated him from her, Seb furrowed his brows.
Not long after, Seb quietly cleaned up the mess on the dining table.
An hour later, Seb clumsily cleaned the kitchen, making it spotless, then tidied up the living room until it was immaculate, and finally packed up all the garbage bags.
After everything was done, Seb reached for his coat from the rack, walked to the bedroom door, and said, "Susan, since you don't like me staying here, I'll leave now."
He waited for a while but heard no response from inside.
Seb turned to leave but suddenly remembered something and went back, saying, "The milk is in the kitchen. Remember to heat it up before you drink it!"
Still, there was no response. Disappointed, Seb finally left.
In fact, Susan was standing right behind the door.
Hearing the front door open and close, Susan's heart tightened. She wanted to step out but couldn't bring herself to move.
Hearing what he said outside, Susan felt a sharp pain in her heart, but she still couldn't take a step forward.
Her heart was in turmoil, unsure whether to forgive him or continue to blame him.
Blaming him made her heart ache when she saw his desolate look; forgiving him made her feel uncomfortable.
A long time later, Susan opened the door and saw the spotless living room and kitchen, feeling an inexplicable pain in her heart.
He had been pampered since childhood and only took care of himself during school. For so many years, when had he ever done housework?
But now, he was willing to do anything and learn anything for her. She had already softened, but she still couldn't let go.
Before going to bed, Susan felt like something was missing.
She hadn't had her warm milk. For the past few days, he had heated a cup of milk for her every night, and she had gotten used to it.
Susan went to the kitchen to get the milk and heated it in the microwave, but inexplicably, she found herself missing him even more.
As the night deepened, Susan sipped her milk and looked around the small apartment, finding it unusually large today. It felt empty everywhere—was it because he was no longer there?
With the New Year approaching, stores were decorated with lights and promotional posters. People who had just received their year-end bonuses were all smiles, booking tickets and preparing to go home for the holidays.
During lunch break, Susan poured herself a cup of coffee in the break room.
As soon as she stepped out, Dorothy smiled apologetically and said, "Susan, I got in touch with Mom, and she wants me to spend the New Year in the central district. I agreed."
Hearing this, Susan was momentarily stunned, then smiled and said, "It's just the two of them; it would be quite lonely for them during the New Year. It's good that you're going to keep them company."
"But you..." Dorothy looked at Susan with some concern.
Susan smiled and said, "Don't worry about me. I've been busy all year; I'll take this chance to rest."
"Okay." Dorothy nodded, understanding that Susan couldn't go with her. After all, seeing Todd would be really awkward.
"Why don't you go home and pack now? It'll be hard to get tickets in a couple of days." Susan suggested with a smile.
"Then I'll leave now." Dorothy left shortly after.
Susan also gave the receptionist an early holiday.
For a moment, Susan felt a sense of loneliness.
The kids were all in Aelistania, and it was too late to get a visa now. It looked like she would be spending the New Year alone.
At this moment, Susan saw Isabella, who was usually cheerful, lying on her desk without saying a word. She couldn't help but ask, "Why are you so quiet today? Cat got your tongue?"
"What's there to say? I'm annoyed!" Isabella pouted.
Hearing this, Susan walked over curiously, looked at Isabella closely, and asked with a frown, "Did you have a fight with Leon?"
"We didn't fight; we're as sweet as can be. He doesn't have any family, so we're spending the New Year together." Isabella couldn't help but laugh as she said this.
"Then what's bothering you?" Susan asked with a frown.
"It's my brother and sister-in-law. They somehow found out I'm dating a rich boyfriend. My brother called me at six this morning, asking me to bring Leon to their place for the New Year. My sister-in-law has already bought all the groceries!" Isabella pouted.
"Did you agree?" Susan asked.
Isabella glanced at Susan and said coldly, "I'd be crazy to agree! I know what they're up to. Their precious son is seeing someone, and they probably want me to cough up money for a down payment. No way am I letting them use Leon like that!"
Hearing this, Susan couldn't help but say, "How can they be so shameless?"
"They don't know what shame is," Isabella said angrily.
"Alright, just ignore them. Don't get yourself worked up." Susan tried to comfort her.
Isabella took a deep breath and said, "I'll just pretend they're dead. I've been alone for a long time, with no family or relatives. By the way, how are things with you and Seb? Leon said Seb has been staying at his villa alone these past few days."
"Nothing much." Susan lowered her head at the mention of Seb.
Seeing Susan's reaction, Isabella knew things weren't going well.
She then smiled and said, "Why don't you spend the New Year with us?"
"No, I don't want to be a third wheel." Susan smiled and declined Isabella's kind offer.
"It's just a meal together on New Year's. I'm not asking you to stay with us 24/7." Isabella insisted.
Unable to refuse such a kind offer, and feeling a bit lonely herself, Susan nodded. "Alright, but I'll cook."
"Of course, you'll cook!" Isabella laughed.
After work, Susan walked out of the office building alone with her bag.
The air was filled with the scent of the New Year, and there were fewer people coming in and out of the office building than usual.
As soon as Susan stepped off the stairs, a figure in a black cashmere coat approached her.
Seeing Seb, whom she hadn't seen in days, Susan was stunned!
Seeing Susan's nervous expression, Seb quickly raised his hand and said, "Don't get me wrong. I'm not here to pester you. I just have a small favor to ask."
"Then don't bother," she said, her voice colder than she intended, and turned to leave.
Watching her walk away, Seb frowned, then took out his phone and dialed a number.
