Chapter 884 Pride and Arrogance

When Susan heard that, she scrunched up her face and asked Kathy, "Do you have any idea why?"

Kathy just shook her head. "Nope, not a clue."

Susan nodded. "Got it."

She headed upstairs, thinking, 'We just got back together, and he's been in a good mood the last few days. So why the sudden mood swing? Is it something at work?'

A bit later, Susan pushed open the door.

The moment she stepped in, she could feel the tension in the room.

There he was, standing by the floor-to-ceiling window in black dress pants and a white shirt, a cigarette burning between his fingers.

He had his back to her, so she couldn't see his face, but she knew him well enough to sense he was in a bad mood.

Susan walked up to him and gently wrapped her arms around his waist, smiling. "What's up?"

Seb's body went stiff, and he didn't say a word.

Sensing something was off, Susan let go, moved in front of him, and looked up at his stern face. "Are you upset?"

Seb didn't even glance at her. He turned around and stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray with a bit too much force.

Seeing him like this, Susan couldn't help but frown.

After a few seconds, Seb finally broke the silence with a voice that was hard to read. "When did you and Hugo get so chummy?"

Susan was stunned.

She was surprised he brought up Hugo out of nowhere.

Looking at Seb's gloomy face, she immediately knew he was jealous and found it a bit funny.

Susan smiled. "I went to Zandoria to relax and just happened to run into Hugo on the plane. Total coincidence, so he ended up being my guide."

"Quite the coincidence," Seb sneered.

The sarcasm in his voice annoyed Susan.

"What are you trying to say? If you have questions, just ask. No need for the sarcasm," Susan's voice got a bit louder.

Seb's face was grim. He glanced at her, then walked to the cabinet, opened a drawer, pulled out a stack of photos, and tossed them on the bed.

"How am I supposed to ask? Just look at these!" Seb angrily unbuttoned his collar.

Susan stepped forward, picked up a few photos, and her mind went blank.

The photos showed her and Hugo, laughing, riding horses, eating together, and even a few where Hugo was supporting her, and one where he was carrying her.

Seeing these, Susan hesitated, then looked up at Seb, pale-faced. "Where did you get these?"

"Doesn't matter where. Just tell me if they're real," Seb's eyes bore into hers, demanding answers.

Susan was momentarily at a loss for words.

The photos were real. She hadn't thought anything of it at the time—she and Hugo hadn't crossed any lines. But now, looking at them, it seemed like they were way more intimate than she remembered. Even she couldn't explain it clearly.

Seb's voice grew louder. "Answer me!"

Susan wasn't one to lie, and the photos were real, so she couldn't dodge the truth.

She nodded. "Yeah, they're real."

Seb looked visibly hurt, his eyes pained as he took a couple of steps back. "Susan, you and Hugo..."

Realizing he had really misunderstood, Susan quickly stepped forward. "Seb, it's not what you think. Hugo and I are just friends. I was just really sad and needed some company."

But Seb shook his head, smiling bitterly. "I know you were sad. Even if something happened, I can't blame you."

Then he turned and punched the wall.

The dull thud made Susan's heart ache. She rushed to grab his fist. "What are you doing? Doesn't that hurt?"

Seb frowned, staring at her for a long time.

Seeing his hand wasn't seriously hurt, Susan felt a bit relieved. When she looked up, she met his deep, complex gaze.

"Seb, I..." Susan started to explain.

But before she could finish, Seb suddenly wrapped an arm around her, holding her tightly.

Susan was stunned. 'Isn't he mad at me for being too close to Hugo? Why is he hugging me now?'

Seb's grip tightened, like he wanted to merge her into his body.

Susan's body ached from his hold, and she was scared of the possessiveness in his eyes.

Seb murmured, "I know this is my fault. If I hadn't forgotten you, you wouldn't have been sad or gone to Zandoria. Then, you wouldn't have met Hugo. He's a charming guy, and it's understandable you liked him, especially since you were single and disappointed in me."

Susan felt something was off.

"So what if that's the case?" she asked, looking up at him.

Seb looked at her, struggling to speak. "Even if something happened between you and Hugo, I get it. I shouldn't blame you. But Susan, we're back together now, and we have two kids. I'm begging you, please don't see Hugo anymore, okay?"

At that moment, the always proud and arrogant Seb was actually pleading, his eyes full of helplessness at the thought of losing her.
