Chapter 828 Waiting for the Rabbit

Ellie chuckled and said, "The salesperson first showed us these massive diamond rings, like over five carats, but you said you didn't want anything too flashy. Last time you got married, it was too high-profile, so we went with this one that's just under two carats."

"Really? Did I say that? But it must've been a bit unfair to you." Seb's eyes were glued to the diamond ring on Ellie's hand.

"As long as I'm with you, that's all that matters to me." Ellie placed Seb's hand on her cheek.

They chatted for a bit longer, then Ellie suddenly looked up and asked, "Hey, where did the bodyguards go? Why aren't they back yet?"

Seb frowned. "I just called them. They said Leon sent them for a medical check-up."

Ellie laughed. "It's good for the bodyguards to get check-ups. Leon is very thoughtful, but he should've told us. I could've sent someone else from the company. If something happens here, it would be too terrible!"

Seb's face darkened. "He did it on purpose."

Ellie tried to calm him down. "Leon is your trusted assistant, and you usually rely on him the most. I think he felt sympathy for Susan this time. After all, Susan and Isabella are best friends, and now Isabella is pregnant with Leon's kid. If Susan asked him for help, he couldn't refuse, right?"

Seb lowered his head and stayed silent for a long time.

After Susan left the hospital, Leon, who had been waiting at the entrance, walked up to her.

"How did it go?" Leon asked, concerned.

Susan looked downcast. "We were outsmarted by Ellie. As soon as I walked into the ward, she showed up. She had anticipated our plan all along. Today, she deliberately moved the board meeting to the afternoon just to block me!"

Leon frowned. "That Ellie is really cunning!"

Just then, Leon's phone rang.

Leon took out his phone and frowned. "It's Mr. Anderson."

He answered the call.

After a while, Leon hung up and frowned. "Mr. Anderson already knows about me sending the bodyguards away."

Susan looked worried. "Did he blame you?"

"Mr. Anderson said not to interfere in his personal life anymore," Leon replied.

Susan felt guilty. "I'm sorry, I dragged you into this!"

"I wasn't afraid of getting involved since I decided to help you. Besides, Ellie went too far this time, trying to control Mr. Anderson completely!" Leon said angrily.

"We need to rethink our strategy. I suspect Ellie will try to drive a wedge between you and Seb in the future, so be careful," Susan advised.

"I get it, but what are your plans? I think we should lay low for a while," Leon said.

Susan was silent for a moment. "I want to calm down and think things through."

"That's a good idea." Leon nodded.

Finally, Susan said, "Leon, I need Seb's daily schedule from now on."

"No problem." Leon nodded.

"Thank you. Without you, I'd be lost," Susan said gratefully, looking at Leon.

"You don't need to thank me. I'm doing this for Mr. Anderson," Leon said.

Susan always thought of Leon as a stand-up guy—kind, loyal, the whole package. But she just couldn't wrap her head around why he was so cold towards Isabella.

Even though she knew that she wouldn't change his mind, she couldn't help but say, "Leon, there's something I don't get."

Leon glanced at her, hesitated, and then said, "If it's about Isabella, there's no need to bring it up."

"But..." Susan started.

Leon cut her off, "She's doing fine in Northstar City now. I want to sort out Mr. Anderson's issues before dealing with Isabella's. But don't worry, I'll take full responsibility for Isabella and her kid."

Susan's face lit up. "What do you mean by that? Are you going to ditch that wealthy heiress?"

Leon smirked. "There is no wealthy heiress."

Susan was stunned. "Leon, what are you talking about?"

Leon sighed. "Susan, Isabella's life and emotions are stable now. Let's keep it that way, okay? I really don't have the energy to deal with her issues right now."

Seeing that Leon didn't want to say more, Susan just nodded.

But she saw a glimmer of hope in his words. He said he'd take full responsibility for Isabella and her kid, which sounded like he planned to marry her someday.

But what did he mean by saying there was no wealthy heiress?

Susan called Isabella, but she didn't mention Leon. Susan figured Leon hadn't contacted her, so she didn't push it. Isabella had just stabilized her emotions and was in her first trimester, so Susan decided to let it be for now.

In the following days, Susan stayed at Isabella's place, went to work at the accounting firm during the day, and waited for Leon to send her Seb's daily schedule in the evening.

After Seb was discharged from the hospital, Seb mostly traveled back and forth between home and work.

Since Seb's leg was still healing, he had to use a wheelchair.

Every morning, Susan would quietly wait in a hidden corner near the Prosperity Group building.

She'd see Seb get out of the car, always with Ellie personally pushing him into the building.

In the evening, Susan would wait in the same spot, watching Seb and his entourage leave.

Even though she could only see him from a distance and couldn't make out his expression, her heart would still race.

Ellie took great care of Seb. Every time they entered or left the building, she would personally push his wheelchair, and they seemed to get along really well.

Every time Seb's car disappeared from sight, Susan would stand there for a long time.

Based on the schedule Leon sent and her own observations, Susan realized that during Seb's recovery, he was always either at home or at the company, and Ellie was always with him, so she had no chance to get close to him.

In the end, Susan had to make a tough decision: if she wanted to get close to Seb, she'd have to wait until his leg healed.
