Chapter 1197 Hard to Explain
Seeing Douglas, Cecilia handed over the magazine and said, "Douglas, this is our latest issue. Mr. Fields' interview was very successful this time, and the magazine's sales increased by eight percent. On behalf of Vogue Vista, I would like to thank Mr. Fields. Please make sure to convey this!"
Douglas took the magazine, glanced at it, and said, "Alright, I will convey it to Mr. Fields word for word."
Cecilia thought for a moment, then took out a small blue velvet box from her purse and handed it to Douglas.
"What is this?" Douglas was puzzled.
Cecilia looked at him and said, "Please return this to Mr. Fields. I shouldn't keep the things he gave me since we no longer have a relationship."
Douglas couldn't help but frown, just about to say something.
Unexpectedly, Cecilia smiled and said, "Please, goodbye!"
"Miss Thorne." Douglas wanted to call Cecilia back, but she had already turned and left.
Cecilia walked on the street, her eyes vacant.
This item was something he gave her back then, and she liked it. It was the only thing he left her, and it was very valuable. By returning it to him, she hoped he would finally understand her determination.
When Douglas placed the magazine and the velvet box on Daryl's desk, Daryl's gaze fell on the velvet box.
Although Cecilia hadn't brought this issue of the magazine, he had already asked Douglas to buy a copy for him to read.
After listening to Douglas's words, Daryl reached out and picked up the velvet box from the desk. As expected, inside was a lily-shaped brooch inlaid with several precious stones, which he had given to Cecilia when he was in Northstar City.
Daryl remembered that Cecilia liked it very much and wore it on her chest. He could still recall the bright smile on her face.
Staring at the brooch in the box for a long time, Daryl suddenly threw the box away!
The velvet box hit the wall, then rolled onto the carpet, breaking into two halves. The brooch had already fallen out and was now broken.
"Mr. Fields." Seeing the veins bulging on Daryl's forehead, Douglas frowned tightly.
"Get out!" Daryl then slumped into his swivel chair, covering his eyes with one hand.
Douglas didn't dare to make a sound and could only retreat.
From that day on, Daryl's face became even gloomier, and he worked even harder, hardly taking time for lunch.
Douglas saw this and was worried.
That afternoon, Douglas gently pushed open the door to the CEO's office.
Daryl was sitting at his desk, reviewing documents, completely unaware that it was almost one o'clock.
Douglas frowned and said, "Mr. Fields, it's already one o'clock. I ordered lunch for you. Please take a moment to eat."
Douglas placed the lunch box on the coffee table in the reception area.
Without looking up, Daryl said, "Just leave it there."
Douglas said with difficulty, "Mr. Fields, you always ask me to leave it here, but you always forget to eat. Your stomach just got better; you can't neglect it like this. The doctor said..."
Daryl impatiently interrupted Douglas. "Alright, get out."
In the end, Douglas had no choice but to leave.
In the days that followed, Daryl indeed disappeared from Cecilia's life. Cecilia never ran into him again.
In the evenings, Cecilia would occasionally glance downstairs, but the black luxury car never appeared outside her house again.
Cecilia should have felt relieved, but after the relief, she felt a sense of loss.
She tried hard to date Barry. As a boyfriend, Barry was very attentive, picking her up and dropping her off at work every day. In the evenings, he either took her out to eat or cooked for her at her place. On weekends, he would accompany her shopping and watching movies.
However, she always felt that being with Barry was like being with a close friend—comfortable but lacking passion.
Cecilia could see that Barry was always trying to please her and create romantic moments, but they just couldn't find that heart-pounding feeling.
She comforted herself, 'Maybe the heart-pounding feeling only happens once in a lifetime. Once the passion fades, what remains is a steady rhythm. Barry and I were doing well; mutual respect, trust, and support were also rare blessings.'
That evening, Barry prepared a candlelight dinner for Cecilia.
Barry's place was spacious, with an open kitchen connected to the living room. The room was dimly lit, with three candles flickering on the candelabra at the dining table. A vase of fresh, dewy roses sat in the center, adding a touch of romance. Cecilia and Barry were seated at opposite ends of the long dining table, creating an intimate and warm atmosphere.
"Try the steak, pasta, and caviar I made. These are my specialties," Barry said with a smile, dressed in a black suit.
Barry wore a simple white shirt with the collar slightly open, his slightly curly hair falling over his forehead, looking very handsome. Especially sitting in front of the flowers, his chiseled features and exotic eyes were mesmerizing.
Cecilia, on the other hand, wore jeans and a plain shirt, feeling out of place with the atmosphere.
"Sure." Cecilia smiled slightly, then took a bite of the steak and couldn't stop praising it.
"I've got a few bottles of red wine in my collection. How about we open one tonight?" Barry suddenly suggested.
Cecilia hesitated for a moment before saying, "No, I get drunk easily, and you still have to drive me home later!"
Barry frowned and said, "Good food without good wine is not enjoyable. How about you stay here tonight?"
"What?" Cecilia's eyes widened in surprise, her heart in a panic.
Seeing her expression, Barry quickly explained, "I didn't mean it that way. I have several bedrooms here. You can stay in one, and I'll stay in mine. I... I feel like I can't explain it clearly!"
Barry waved his hands in the air a few times, then touched his forehead, looking extremely frustrated.
Seeing Barry's nervousness, Cecilia couldn't help but laugh!
Seeing Cecilia laugh, Barry realized she hadn't taken it to heart. "It seems my English isn't good enough to clearly express my meaning."
"It's already very good," Cecilia said with a smile.
