Chapter 790 Reconciliation
When Cecilia heard this, she couldn't help but smile and said, "Maybe all you and Mr. Anderson are missing is a marriage certificate. Other than that, you're already Mrs. Anderson. I was the clueless one before, so don't be mad at me."
Cecilia's face looked a bit awkward, but her eyes were sincere.
Susan took a good look at Cecilia, noticing she seemed different from before.
Her outfit was way more casual: faded jeans, a fluffy hoodie, her long ponytail still tied up, but no makeup and no accessories. Even the confidence she used to have seemed to be gone.
In short, Cecilia didn't look great; she seemed drained, a far cry from the confident girl she used to be.
Susan glanced at the shopping cart Cecilia was pushing, which was almost overflowing with daily necessities.
The cart had oil, soap, and other household items, and Susan even spotted men's socks and underwear.
Seeing these, Susan couldn't help but frown.
Wasn't Cecilia single? Why was she buying this stuff now? Didn't she break up with Daryl? So who were these men's items for?
Cecilia used to juggle several tutoring jobs while studying, always busy and eager to learn. Now, she looked like a housewife.
Even though she had a ton of questions, Susan didn't ask them because she and Cecilia weren't that close, and it would be too awkward.
Cecilia seemed to notice Susan's doubts and smiled, asking, "Are you out shopping to make a big meal for your family today?"
"Yeah," Susan nodded with a smile.
"Then take this broccoli," Cecilia said, placing the broccoli in Susan's cart.
"Thanks," Susan accepted happily.
"No problem. I'll just grab another one," Cecilia said, picking another broccoli she thought looked good.
Susan then picked some ingredients she needed, and Cecilia was almost done shopping too. They both headed to the checkout together.
After paying, both Susan and Cecilia were carrying several large shopping bags.
Cecilia checked her watch and smiled, "It's still early. There's a nice café nearby. Want to join me for a coffee and a break?"
Without much thought, Susan nodded. "Sure."
Actually, Susan didn't dislike Cecilia; she kind of admired her.
And knowing that Cecilia had feelings for Seb last time wasn't because she truly liked him, but because she desperately needed some money. She had apologized, so Susan didn't mind anymore.
Susan felt like Cecilia had something to say to her, though she didn't know what. But today, she was curious enough to find out.
Cecilia smiled and walked out of the supermarket with Susan, heading to the nearby café.
The café had a nice vibe, though the lighting was dim, it was super quiet, perfect for a heart-to-heart talk.
After the waiter brought two cups of coffee and some desserts, Susan and Cecilia started chatting.
"You seem pretty chill now. Is school not keeping you busy?" Susan asked with a smile.
Cecilia smiled back, "I dropped out."
Susan's hand froze mid-air, holding her cup.
Seeing Susan's surprised look, Cecilia chuckled. "Surprised? I was too. I worked my butt off to get into Northstar City as an international student. Never thought I'd be taking an indefinite break after less than a year."
"You're not dropping out to do tutoring and make money, are you?" Susan asked, still trying to wrap her head around it.
Susan knew Cecilia was desperate to raise money and probably couldn't find a job that would earn tens of thousands of dollars quickly. If she tutored rich kids day and night, she might make nearly ten thousand a month, but it would still take a year to save enough for her brother's wedding.
Cecilia's lips curled into a self-deprecating smile. "I'm making money by being someone's mistress now."
Susan was even more shocked.
Looking up at Cecilia, Susan frowned. "Cecilia, are you joking?"
Even though Susan didn't know Cecilia well, she knew Cecilia was a proud girl. How could she be someone's mistress? When she tried to get close to Seb, it was to marry him, not to be his mistress.
Cecilia gave a bitter smile. "I mean it."
Susan furrowed her brows, staring at Cecilia, not understanding why she was sharing this.
Cecilia continued, "I don't know why I'm telling you this. I really have no friends here, and I have no one to confide in. You didn't know me before and aren't part of my circle, so I'm not afraid of you laughing at me. But I know you're a good person. You don't mind listening to me, do you?"
Cecilia's eyes looked at Susan with a pained expression, showing she was deeply sad. Susan couldn't help but feel sympathy.
Susan looked at Cecilia for a while and said, "Although we aren't friends, we are from the same country. In this foreign land, I can understand your feelings. But in my eyes, you are a talented, beautiful, and proud girl. I just hope you don't degrade yourself!"
Hearing this, tears rolled down Cecilia's cheeks, and her shoulders trembled.
Sensing her inner pain, Susan reached out and held Cecilia's hand, hoping to offer some comfort.
Cecilia cried for a while, then tightly held Susan's hand.
Susan just silently watched her, knowing she was very fragile at the moment and that saying anything wouldn't be as comforting as just being there with her.
After a long time, Cecilia's emotions finally calmed down.
Susan handed Cecilia a tissue.
Cecilia wiped away her tears and sniffles, then forced a smile and said, "Thank you. Actually, I'm not really degrading myself because I'm being a mistress for the man I love!"
"What?" Hearing Cecilia's words, Susan stared at her in shock, not understanding what she meant.
