Chapter 1111 Returning to Maple Valley
Next, Cecilia immediately contacted her professor, submitted her thesis, scheduled her defense, booked her flight back home, and quietly packed her bags.
A week later, Cecilia finally graduated successfully.
This time, Cecilia didn't want to inform Douglas about her return home because she feared that if Douglas told Daryl, he might not allow her to go back. If she couldn't see him, everything would be in vain.
On the day of her departure, Cecilia called Freya aside and told her that she was going back home for a while, and her return date was uncertain. She might never come back.
After all, her contract with Daryl had only a little over a month left, and she had successfully graduated. The hope of returning was very slim.
Hearing this, Freya was shocked. "Ms. Thorne, why are you suddenly going back home? What about me?"
Seeing Freya's surprised expression, Cecilia handed her a stack of money she had prepared in advance. "After I leave, contact Douglas. He will decide your future. You've taken care of me for so long, and I don't know how to thank you. This money isn't much, but it's a token of my appreciation. Please accept it."
Although Freya was just a servant, she had taken care of Cecilia for so long. Cecilia had grown fond of her. Freya was very simple and kind-hearted, and Cecilia was reluctant to part with her.
Looking at the money in her hand, Freya quickly returned it to Cecilia. "Ms. Thorne, I've already been paid for my work here. How can I take your money? Besides, I know you don't have much money either. You'll need it when you go back home Don't worry about me. At most, Douglas will dismiss me, and I'll find another job."
Hearing Freya's understanding words, Cecilia nodded with tears in her eyes. She left some of her belongings that she couldn't take with her for Freya, hoping they would be of some help.
Finally, Cecilia instructed Freya to tell Douglas about her departure a few days later. Freya readily agreed.
In the afternoon, Cecilia was already flying above the clouds on a plane back to Maple Valley.
To be honest, Cecilia had no confidence in this trip back home, but no matter what, she had to move forward. She had to fight for her unborn child.
With a nervous heart, Cecilia finally arrived in Maple Valley after a bumpy flight of over ten hours.
The combination of pregnancy symptoms and motion sickness had made Cecilia vomit terribly on the plane. By the time she got off the plane, she was completely exhausted.
Fortunately, she had informed Susan and Isabella early on, and they both came to the airport to pick her up.
"Cecilia!" Seeing Cecilia come out, Susan and Isabella's faces were filled with the joy of reunion.
"Susan, Isabella!" Seeing her two good friends, Cecilia's eyes turned red.
Over the years, Cecilia had been studying abroad alone, living in a foreign country for several years. She considered herself a strong person who rarely cried. When faced with difficulties, she always thought about how to solve them first rather than wallowing in self-pity.
But now, Cecilia understood that she had been strong because she hadn't reached her breaking point. At this moment, her heart was particularly fragile. Seeing Susan and Isabella, she felt a sense of comfort.
Seeing Cecilia's haggard appearance, Susan frowned and said, "Cecilia, why do you look so unwell? Are you feeling sick?"
Cecilia hadn't told Susan and Isabella about her pregnancy. It was hard to talk about, and she didn't know what the future held, so she chose not to say anything.
The next moment, Cecilia touched her face and said, "I'm fine, maybe just a bit motion sick and didn't sleep well last night."
"How about we go to the nearby café for a drink?" Isabella suggested.
"Okay." Cecilia nodded.
Then, Susan and Isabella took Cecilia to a café near the airport.
In the quiet café, most of the customers were travelers because of its proximity to the airport.
Susan ordered a glass of lemon water and a fruit salad for Cecilia, while she and Isabella only had freshly squeezed juice and pastries.
After taking a few sips of lemon water, Cecilia couldn't wait to ask, "Susan, Isabella, did you find out anything about Daryl's current situation?"
Before boarding the plane, Cecilia had called Daryl, but the call went unanswered. She guessed that Daryl had changed his contact information after returning home.
She was unfamiliar with Maple Valley, and even if she came here, she probably wouldn't be able to find Daryl. So she had to call Susan and Isabella for help. Their husbands were influential figures in Maple Valley, and finding Daryl wouldn't be difficult, especially since Daryl's father was also a prominent figure in Maple Valley.
Susan and Isabella exchanged a glance, and Susan replied, "We found out for you. This business card has Daryl's current work address and contact number, though the number is probably his secretary's."
At this point, Isabella placed a card in front of Cecilia.
Susan continued, "A month ago, Daryl's father had a sudden heart attack and was hospitalized for emergency treatment. As a result, Fields Corporation's stock price plummeted. Daryl rushed back from abroad to take over the business, and the stock price has stabilized recently, so you don't need to worry too much."
"How is Daryl's father doing?" Cecilia asked worriedly.
Hearing Susan's words, Cecilia knew that Daryl had been through a tough time recently, so her resentment over his lack of contact in the past month dissipated significantly.
"He's been discharged and is recuperating at home," Susan replied.
Hearing this, Cecilia finally breathed a sigh of relief.
At this point, Isabella, who had been silent, asked, "Cecilia, why did you suddenly come back from Northstar City? What's going on between you and Daryl?"
Realizing she might have said too much, Isabella stopped, knowing about Cecilia and Daryl's relationship.
Hearing this, Cecilia lowered her head, not knowing what to say. "I..."
Susan and Isabella knew about her contractual relationship with Daryl, but she didn't want to reveal her pregnancy yet. Cecilia felt very lost. She knew her chances of finding Daryl were slim, but she wanted to try for the sake of her unborn child.
Sensing Cecilia's difficulty in speaking, Susan quickly tried to ease the atmosphere. "Cecilia, if you don't want to talk about it, that's fine. But if you have any difficulties, just let Isabella and me know. We'll do our best to help you."
