Chapter 37
Leon glanced at Susan, struggling to find the right words. "Mrs. Anderson, Amelia's inside."
Susan's eyes widened in surprise as she looked from Leon to the door. She hesitated, noticing the reluctance in Leon's eyes, but he seemed resigned.
She couldn't fathom why Seb would bring Amelia here now, but she had a bad feeling about it.
Taking a deep breath, she stepped forward and gently pushed the door open.
Inside, Susan saw Seb and Amelia sitting close together. Seb, in a white shirt, looked slightly flushed, probably from a bit of alcohol.
Amelia, in a red V-neck top with a plunging neckline, was glowing as she served Seb food. Their closeness screamed of something more than friendship.
Susan's heart ached. How could Seb, who held her so tenderly last night, be so cozy with Amelia today?
"Seb, try this fish, it's amazing!" Amelia chirped.
Seb looked up and locked eyes with Susan through the half-open door. They stared at each other for a few seconds.
Then Seb turned back to Amelia, raising his voice a bit. "You look stunning today."
Amelia, taken aback by the compliment, touched her face excitedly. "Really? Is it the clothes or me? Be specific."
Seb, calm and collected, replied, "The clothes are beautiful."
Amelia frowned.
"But you," Seb added, "are even more beautiful."
Amelia playfully pushed Seb's chest, her eyes sparkling. "You're so bad!"
Susan, her face pale, withdrew her hand from the door. She could still hear their laughter.
Turning towards the exit, she said, "Mr. Johnson, please tell Mr. Anderson I'll be having lunch alone from now on."
Before Leon could respond, Susan hurried away, not wanting to cry in front of him.
Outside Velvet Sky Bistro, Susan looked up at the sky, holding back her tears. She reminded herself, "I can't cry. I knew this might happen when I married Seb. Why did I foolishly give him my heart? Seb's a man of the world. How could he ever be devoted to someone like me?"
Their connection was just a twist of fate. From now on, she'd see Seb only as the father of her child. Everything else was just a dream she needed to wake up from.
Back in the private room, Seb checked his watch. Susan had been gone for five minutes. She should be far away by now.
Suddenly, Seb stood up and said to Amelia, "I have an appointment. Enjoy your meal."
Amelia finally had Seb to herself and wasn't about to let this chance slip away. She quickly grabbed his arm and smiled. "Seb, even if you have an appointment, you should finish your meal first. Skipping meals isn't good for you."
Seb pushed her hand away, his face stern. "Excuse me," he said, turning and walking out.
"Seb!" Amelia's frustration was evident, but she couldn't do anything about Seb's sudden coldness.
Seb and Leon entered the elevator. Seb asked, "How did she react?"
"Mrs. Anderson said she'll be having lunch alone from now on," Leon replied.
Seb frowned at this.
Leon, gathering his courage, said, "Mr. Anderson, why do you do this? You clearly care about Mrs. Anderson. Seeing her sad makes you unhappy too."
"You're talking too much today," Seb snapped, his cold eyes silencing Leon.
When they reached the first floor, Seb said before stepping out, "Order a meal from Emerald Oasis Eatery in your name and send it over. Include a freshly baked cake. You decide the rest."
"Yes, sir," Leon responded, though his mouth twitched slightly.
Susan sat at her desk, staring at the small cake in front of her, with no appetite.
Just after finishing her meal, Isabella walked in and immediately noticed the cake. She leaned over and whispered, "Seb knows you love cakes from this place?"
Susan, feeling down, forced a smile. "Mr. Johnson ordered it because I didn't eat."
"Everyone around Seb knows you love cakes from Emerald Oasis Eatery. Seb must've told them to order it for you, right?" Isabella asked curiously.
Isabella's words struck a chord with Susan. 'If Seb didn't care, why would he remember my preferences so well?' she thought.
Susan didn't dare to think further. Seb had clearly seen her at Velvet Sky Bistro earlier but had deliberately shown affection with Amelia in front of her. Was it intentional?
Susan racked her brain but couldn't figure out why Seb would do this. 'Did he just want to make me unhappy?'
Then it hit her. Seb was retaliating because she had used him as a bet and angered him. Now he was using Amelia to hurt her. Realizing this, Susan felt a surge of anger.
"He only knows how to exploit people. How could he be so kind?" she fumed.
"Many people would love to have this 'love meal'!" Isabella teased.
"If you want it, you can have it," Susan said, pushing the cake towards Isabella.
"It's not specially ordered for me. I have my pride," Isabella replied, pushing the cake back.
The cake smelled delicious, but this time, the sweetness made Susan's stomach churn. She suddenly stood up, covering her mouth, and ran outside.
Susan hurried towards the restroom, coincidentally catching Seb's attention as he passed by the finance department. He frowned upon seeing her clutching her mouth, as if on the verge of vomiting.
Seeing no one around, Seb quickly followed Susan to the restroom door. Hearing the painful sounds of vomiting inside, his frown deepened.
