Chapter 1283 Missing
The doctor sighed and said, "Based on the test results, Mrs. Cecilia Fields's uterus has been damaged, so the chances of her getting pregnant are very low."
Azalea was stunned into silence, and even Cecilia stared at the doctor in shock.
Her uterus was damaged? How could she not know about this? What on earth had happened?
After a moment, Azalea fixed her gaze on the doctor and asked, "Doctor, what do you mean by that? How could her uterus be damaged? Does this mean she can't have children in the future?"
Azalea's questions were exactly what Cecilia wanted to know, so she too looked at the doctor with wide, fearful eyes.
The doctor glanced at the anxious Azalea before turning his gaze to Cecilia, who felt a growing sense of unease under its scrutiny.
The doctor then asked, "Mrs. Cecilia Fields, have you ever been pregnant or given birth before?"
Azalea's eyes immediately darted to Cecilia.
Cecilia stared at the doctor and nodded. "I was pregnant once, but there was an accident, and I had a miscarriage."
The doctor nodded. "That explains it. The damage to your uterus likely occurred during that miscarriage."
Azalea's eyes turned sharp and angry as she interrupted the doctor, her voice rising, "Cecilia, you were pregnant before you married my son?"
"Yes, Mom," Cecilia nodded.
Azalea's anger boiled over, and she slapped Cecilia hard across the face.
The sound of the slap echoed through the doctor's office, making everyone jump.
Cecilia, sitting in a chair, was knocked off balance and collided with the desk.
Holding her burning cheek, Cecilia struggled to sit up straight, tears welling in her eyes as she looked at Azalea. "Mom, I..."
"I've seen shameless women before, but you take the cake! How dare you admit you were pregnant and had a miscarriage before marrying my son?" Azalea stood up, pointing at Cecilia in fury.
"Mom, please let me explain," Cecilia cried.
"Explain? What is there to explain? You shameless woman, the Fields family will never accept you as a daughter-in-law. I'm going to make sure Daryl divorces you as soon as I get home!" Azalea stormed out of the doctor's office.
"Mom!" Cecilia called after her, rushing to follow.
But Azalea's slap had left Cecilia's head ringing, and she felt dizzy as she walked down the hospital corridor.
Cecilia leaned against the wall, struggling to move forward. By the time she made it outside, she saw Azalea's car driving away.
Cecilia sighed as she watched the car disappear into the distance.
Suddenly, Cecilia remembered something and hurried back into the hospital.
She returned to the doctor's office, where the doctor looked at her nervously.
"Mrs. Cecilia Fields, there's no point in blaming me. Mrs. Azalea Fields paid for the consultation. Besides, any hospital would have found the same results. You need to stay calm," the doctor stammered.
Cecilia could see the doctor was worried she would blame him, but that wasn't her intention.
The doctor had spoken the truth. Azalea would have found out eventually. What Azalea didn't know was that the child Cecilia had lost was her son's.
Cecilia said, "Doctor, don't worry. I'm not here to blame you. I just want to know the truth about my condition."
The doctor relaxed and adjusted his glasses. "Alright, as a doctor, I'll tell you the truth about your condition."
Cecilia asked urgently, "You said my uterus is damaged and that it's hard for me to get pregnant. Does that mean I have no hope of getting pregnant? How severe is the damage?"
The doctor replied, "According to the report, your miscarriage was quite late-term, so the damage to your uterus is significant. Given the current situation, your chances of conceiving are very low."
Cecilia's heart sank.
She clenched her hands nervously and asked, "How low are we talking?"
The doctor's expression grew serious. "To put it bluntly, your chances of getting pregnant again are theoretically possible but less than five percent. It would take a miracle."
Cecilia's mind went blank.
Less than five percent? If she could get pregnant, it would be a miracle.
Tears brimmed in her eyes, and she almost cried.
"Thank you, doctor," Cecilia said, holding back her tears as she left the office.
As she walked, tears streamed down her face.
She had longed to have a baby with Daryl, not just to appease Azalea but as a symbol of their love and a continuation of their lives.
But now, her chances of becoming pregnant were very low. Cecilia felt her world collapsing.
By dusk, Cecilia found herself sitting on a park bench, her eyes swollen from crying. She stared blankly at the orange-red sunset, her mind a fog.
She didn't know how she had ended up there. She only remembered walking for a long time until her legs couldn't carry her any further.
She didn't know how long she had been sitting there, only that it was now dusk.
Her phone had rung countless times until it died.
She hadn't checked who was calling. She knew Daryl must have called, but she didn't want to talk to anyone. She just wanted to be left alone.
As the sun set and the city lights came on, a dark figure spotted her.
The person approached quickly, smiling with relief before scolding her, "There you are! Why didn't you answer your phone? Do you know how worried I was?"
Hearing the familiar voice, Cecilia looked up to see Daryl's anxious face illuminated by the nearby streetlights.
