Chapter 1384 Resolving the Crisis
Just as Daryl and Cecilia's lips were about to touch the apple, the staff member suddenly yanked the rope.
The apple shot up, but Daryl and Cecilia couldn't pull back in time.
In the next moment, their lips met!
Cecilia hadn't expected to miss the apple and end up kissing Daryl instead. Panicking, she slipped and leaned forward.
Daryl's lips pressed against Cecilia's, and his eyes darkened instantly. His hands instinctively wrapped around her waist.
Cecilia gasped. Her face blushed as her lips touched his warm ones.
She quickly turned her head, but due to her unsteady balance, her lips slid across Daryl's cheek.
This made things worse; her lips ended up kissing Daryl's entire cheek.
"Good, good, do it again!"
The guests below started to cheer, some even clapping rhythmically.
Cecilia felt mortified, wishing she could find a hole to jump into.
She buried her face in Daryl's chest, her limbs weak and numb from embarrassment.
At that moment, Daryl's strong arms held Cecilia tightly. Their bodies touched, and they could smell each other's scent, feeling a strange sensation in their hearts and bodies.
His embrace was still as broad and warm as ever, making Cecilia furrow her brows, feeling as if everything had returned to the past.
The host finally spoke after laughing. "Alright, folks, the apple-eating game continues!"
Hearing the urging voice behind her, Cecilia realized she was still in Daryl's arms.
She quickly stepped back, breaking free from Daryl's embrace.
Daryl's hands loosened and hung awkwardly in the air.
Cecilia glanced at the host, her face flushed, and without warning, she turned and fled the scene in her high heels!
Two seconds later, the host realized the bridesmaid had run away!
"Hey, where's the bridesmaid going? Someone, bring her back!" The host called out with a smile, holding the microphone.
Hearing the host's shout behind her, Cecilia ran towards the backstage in fear.
But the host's two assistants quickly blocked her path!
Cecilia looked at them with pleading eyes, not wanting to play that game again, preferring to die rather than play it.
While everyone hoped the bridesmaid would be brought back, Daryl stepped forward, grabbed the microphone from the host, and said to the audience, "The bride and groom have rested for half a day and should have regained their energy. Let's have the bride and groom complete the next game. After all, they are the main characters today, and I'm sure everyone wants to see them play, right?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the audience started cheering. "Bride and groom, come out! Bride and groom, come out!"
Seeing this, Daryl casually handed the microphone back to the host.
The host was stunned, as he had never encountered such a situation before. But being experienced, he took the microphone and laughed, "It seems the best man is very considerate of the bridesmaid. Now, let's invite the bride and groom to complete the apple-eating game!"
Seeing Daryl successfully defuse the crisis, Cecilia finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Daryl walked up to Cecilia, noticing the host's two assistants still standing there. He frowned. "Move aside!"
Daryl's voice was authoritative, and the two assistants quickly stepped aside.
Cecilia glanced at Daryl, seeing no expression on his face, and hurriedly walked to the backstage.
Cecilia entered the dressing room, sat on a chair, and placed her hand on her chest, feeling her heart still pounding.
Earlier, she had been so close to him that she could hear his breathing.
Cecilia touched her lips, feeling them burn, and her face flushed with embarrassment.
Half an hour later, the game session ended, and the makeup artists escorted the bride back to the dressing room to change her dress and touch up her makeup.
Seeing Cecilia, Elowen took her hand and sat at the vanity, apologizing, "Cecilia, I'm really sorry."
Hearing this, Cecilia understood Elowen's meaning.
From the moment Elowen and Elijah asked her and Daryl to be the bridesmaid and best man, she knew they wanted to match her with Daryl. This game session was probably their idea given to the host. Although Cecilia was unhappy, she understood their intentions from their perspective.
So, Cecilia smiled and said, "Elowen, I know you and Elijah mean well, but Daryl and I can't go back to the past. So, please don't try anymore."
Elowen frowned and said, "Cecilia, think about it. I see Daryl still has feelings for you. And you should consider Thaddeus. He's so adorable; can you really bear to give him a broken family?"
When he mentioned Thaddeus, Cecilia's heart ached.
Despite the pain, Cecilia's eyes remained firm. "Elowen, don't persuade me. I've decided, and I won't look back."
Hearing this, Elowen was speechless.
Cecilia then smiled and said, "Today is your big day. Let's not talk about my issues. You should get dressed up and go out to toast."
"Okay." Elowen nodded.
Cecilia then said, "I miss Thaddeus. I want to go to the Fields family to pick him up, so I won't accompany you."
"Okay." Elowen smiled.
Cecilia suddenly reached for the pearl necklace around her neck and said, "Thank you for lending me the pearl necklace. I don't need it anymore, so I'm returning it."
Cecilia handed the pearl necklace to Elowen.
Elowen looked at the necklace in Cecilia's hand, confused, and asked, "Cecilia, are you joking? When did I lend you a pearl necklace?"
Hearing this, Cecilia frowned and asked, "Didn't you have the staff give it to me?"
Elowen took the pearl necklace from Cecilia, looked at it, and laughed, "This necklace is beautiful, and it looks great on you. But unfortunately, it's not mine!"
Elowen then handed the pearl necklace back to Cecilia.
Cecilia stared at the necklace in her hand, puzzled. Did she make a mistake?
