Chapter 1266 You Got Married and No Longer Care About Your Mother
Over the next few days, Daryl took Cecilia on a tour of the charming Maplewood Grove. They checked out the local inns, strolled hand in hand through the picturesque streets, and everything felt just right.
His eyes were only for her, and hers were only for him.
They could be affectionate in their room without a care, flaunt their love on the streets, and hunt for delicious food together. It was undoubtedly one of their most unforgettable memories.
Time flew by, and a week felt incredibly short in the grand scheme of life.
That afternoon, Cecilia and Daryl sat side by side on a plane bound for Maple Valley.
Their fingers were intertwined, and Cecilia looked down at their clasped hands, sighing, "This week went by so fast. I don't want to leave this beautiful place."
Daryl smiled at her words. "There are so many beautiful places in our country. I'll take you out to explore more whenever we get the chance."
"Sounds great," Cecilia replied, her eyes lighting up with excitement.
She then rested her head on Daryl's shoulder and closed her eyes.
Seeing Cecilia asleep, Daryl smiled and covered her with his blanket.
As the plane was about to land, Cecilia started to feel anxious.
Noticing her nervousness, Daryl frowned and asked, "What's wrong?"
Cecilia looked up and replied, "Do you think your parents will like the gifts I picked for them?"
Daryl patted her hand reassuringly. "It's the thought that counts. They'll appreciate the gesture."
"I know, but I'm worried Mom might not like them," Cecilia said.
"Don't worry, I'll back you up," Daryl said, holding her hand.
"Okay," Cecilia nodded with a smile.
Two hours later, Daryl and Cecilia walked into the Fields family living room.
"Dad, Mom," Daryl greeted Isaac and Azalea.
Cecilia placed the gifts for them on the table and smiled nervously. "Dad, Mom, Daryl and I picked out some gifts for you. I hope you like them."
At that moment, Finn stepped forward and opened the gifts, showing them to Isaac and Azalea.
Cecilia smiled and said, "These are tea and ginseng for Dad, and a scarf and bird's nest for Mom."
"Very nice," Isaac smiled and nodded.
Azalea, however, glanced coldly at the items in the butler's hands and said, "You don't need to buy these things when you go out. We have more scarves and bird's nests at home than we know what to do with."
Cecilia stood there awkwardly, unsure of what to say.
Daryl chuckled and said, "Mom, it's Cecilia's thoughtful gesture. It's the thought that counts."
"You're always defending your wife now," Azalea remarked.
Daryl smiled at his father and said, "I'm just following the family tradition."
"What family tradition?" Azalea asked, puzzled.
"Defending the wife, of course. Dad set the example for me!" Daryl replied earnestly.
Everyone in the room couldn't help but laugh at his words.
Cecilia wanted to laugh but couldn't, so she just looked down, trying to hide her amusement.
Isaac and the butler also chuckled quietly.
Azalea smiled briefly but then felt something was off. She shot a sharp glance at everyone, and they immediately stopped laughing.
Cecilia thought Daryl was quite the character, able to lighten the mood with his humor.
The next moment, Azalea shot Daryl a glance. "I've noticed that you've become even more smooth-tongued since getting married, not at all dignified. How can you lead the Fields Corporation in the future? Remember, you're not just a small-time person, you're the eldest son of the Fields family, the leader of the Fields Group!"
"Mom, I understand, but we are home, it's okay to be cheerful occasionally!" Daryl shrugged with a smile.
Azalea then turned her attention to Cecilia. "Cecilia, I want to know what your plans are for the future."
"Plans?" Cecilia was a bit confused.
Just to live well and work hard, right? What other plans could there be?
Seeing Cecilia's confusion, Azalea continued, "Since you don't have a plan, I'll make one for you. Now that you're part of the Fields family, your status has changed. You're not just our daughter-in-law but also the wife of the CEO of Fields Group. Your actions represent our family and the company. Your responsibilities include taking care of Daryl, having children for the family, and helping Daryl manage the family's and the company's interests."
Cecilia straightened her back, feeling the immense pressure but still nodded. "Mom, I understand."
She knew that marrying Daryl meant her fate was tied to his and the Fields family. These responsibilities were hers to bear, and she had to give it her all.
Daryl gave Cecilia an encouraging look, and she felt more confident.
"So you can't be out and about anymore. Tomorrow, you should quit your job at the magazine," Azalea ordered.
Quit her job? Cecilia was shocked and looked at Azalea.
She knew her life would be different, but she never thought she'd have to quit her job and become a housewife.
Cecilia turned to Daryl for support.
Daryl met her gaze and then smiled at his mother. "Mom, Cecilia's job as an editor isn't really being out in public. Plus, staying home all the time would be too boring. It's better for her to have something to do."
Azalea remained unmoved and insisted, "Our family doesn't need the money. There's plenty to do at home. What's boring about that? I've been at home for decades, and I've managed."
"Mom, you didn't have much education. Cecilia is different. She studied abroad and has skills. Staying home would be a waste," Daryl argued.
Azalea's face turned red with anger, and she raised her voice, "What do you mean by that? Are you saying you look down on me because I'm not educated? You think your wife, the foreign-educated high achiever, is better than me? You've married her and now you don't care about your mother anymore!"
