Chapter 260 Paternity Test
The next morning, Seb sat in the back of the Mercedes, looking glum, while Leon drove out of the neighborhood.
Just as they were about to turn, Leon slammed on the brakes, making the tires screech to a halt.
Seb lurched forward and frowned. "What's going on?"
Leon stared at the figure in front of them. "Mr. Anderson, it’s Ms. Wilson."
A figure had suddenly appeared, blocking their path. Leon had braked just in time. When he saw it was Susan in a black coat, he was shocked.
Seb looked out the window and saw Susan in her black cashmere coat, her hair blowing in the wind, face pale, staring at the car. She was clearly there to see him.
Seb's heart skipped a beat. He quickly got out and walked straight to her.
"Susan, did you come to see me?" Seb asked, his voice excited, eyes bright.
Susan, expressionless, cut to the chase. "Didn't you say Hayden is my son?"
"Yes." Seb nodded.
"Your words aren't enough. I want a paternity test with Hayden," Susan said firmly.
Seb hesitated, then nodded. "Alright, when do you want to go?"
"Now," Susan replied. She wanted to catch him off guard.
Seb understood and smiled. "I'll do as you say. You pick the hospital or testing center. The result will be the same."
Susan handed him a business card. "This testing center is the largest and most authoritative in Maple Valley. I’ve already made an appointment for this morning. Meet me there with Hayden in an hour."
Seb glanced at the card. "I'll call Mary to bring Hayden. Why don't you ride with me?" he suggested.
Susan refused directly, "No need, someone is waiting for me over there."
She glanced behind her. Seb saw a Range Rover parked about a hundred feet away, with George in a silver-gray suit standing beside it, looking serious and worried.
Seeing George, Seb's eyebrows twitched. He looked at the card and smiled. "Well, it makes sense. George often handles these cases. He has a lot of experience with paternity tests," he remarked, a hint of jealousy evident in his tone.
Not wanting to engage in an argument, Susan stated calmly, "Regardless of George's experience, the results from the largest and most authoritative testing center in Maple Valley will be the most impartial."
"No one would dare tamper with it," Seb said, pocketing the business card.
"I'll head over now. See you at the testing center." Susan turned and walked towards George.
Seb watched her leave, then got back into the car, his brows furrowed.
An hour later, Susan paced the hallway of the testing center, glancing at the empty corridor. Seb and Hayden were nowhere in sight.
George tried to comfort her. "Be patient, they should be here soon."
"They should've arrived by now. Do you think Seb changed his mind?" Susan asked, frowning.
George thought for a moment. "If he did, it means he was lying."
After waiting another half hour, Susan couldn't take it anymore and called Leon.
"Mr. Johnson, why hasn't Seb brought Hayden to the testing center?" she asked, sounding accusatory.
There was a brief pause before Leon responded, "I'm sorry, Ms. Wilson. Please wait a bit longer. We're on our way."
"Alright, I'll wait another half hour. If you're not here by then, I'll assume Seb is afraid of the paternity test and that everything he said is a lie!" Susan said and hung up, not caring for Leon's response.
She sat silently on a bench, while George stood by the window, also quiet.
Susan's heart was conflicted. She hoped Hayden was her child, but also hoped Seb was lying. Hayden was adorable, and she liked him, but if he was her son, she felt guilty for depriving him of motherly love. Plus, having two kids with Seb was a headache.
As the half-hour mark approached, Susan checked the time and was about to leave, thinking Seb wouldn't show.
Just then, footsteps echoed in the hallway.
Susan turned and saw a small figure running towards her, shouting, "Mommy!"
She was momentarily stunned as Hayden appeared before her.
When she came to her senses, Hayden had already crashed into her, causing a bit of pain.
Frowning, she saw Hayden hugging her leg and smiling. "Mommy, I'm sorry I'm late!"
Susan was moved by Hayden's adorableness. His call of "Mommy" touched her heart.
She noticed a bandage on his forehead and frowned. "What happened to your head?"
Hayden pouted. "Daddy's car crashed into another car, and my head got hurt. Daddy's arm is hurt too!"
Following Hayden's gaze, Susan saw Seb and Leon walking towards them. Seb's arm was in a cast, supported by a sling, and Leon had bruises on his face, indicating he was also slightly injured.
