Chapter 125 Playing Deaf
"What's wrong? You feeling okay?" Seb asked, looking worried.
Susan just stared at him, wide-eyed. It wasn't because Seb was particularly handsome or because he was concerned. It was because she could hear him.
Wait, wasn't she deaf? How could she suddenly hear again overnight?
Susan stood there, stunned. Seb, thinking she still couldn't hear, grabbed his phone and typed out a message.
[What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Need me to call a doctor?]
Reading the text, Susan didn't want to admit her hearing was back. She had no idea how to face Seb or what to say.
What was their relationship now? Everything felt awkward and complicated.
She regretted last night. If she'd known she'd get her hearing back, she wouldn't have slept with Seb. But now, she had to figure out how to deal with this mess.
Susan decided she couldn't tell Seb her hearing had returned. She needed to end things with him but still required his help for now.
She took Seb's phone, hesitated, then handed it back.
[I got my period. Can you go buy me some pads?]
Seb looked a bit troubled but agreed.
"Alright, I'll get them. Wait here."
He left the room, and Susan couldn't help but smile. The thought of Seb buying pads was amusing.
Feeling better, she realized how much she missed hearing. The sounds outside felt like music.
Seb had taken a lot from her, so playing a little trick wasn't too bad, right? She felt a bit guilty but remembered his craziness last night and felt justified.
As she sat by the bed peeling an apple, she heard footsteps approaching. Her hearing seemed sharper than ever!
She looked towards the door but quickly turned back, reminding herself not to react to any sounds or she'd blow her cover.
Sure enough, Susan saw Seb walking towards her with a big bag in hand.
He placed the bag on the bed and quickly typed on his phone.
[I bought them. Are these okay?]
Susan opened the bag and was stunned. There were at least thirty or forty packs of pads in there.
She was speechless. These would last her half a year. Was Seb trying to buy out the whole store?
She looked at Seb, opened her mouth, then quickly closed it, grabbed his phone, and typed.
[Why did you buy so many? I can't use all of these!]
[I didn't know what brand or type you use, so I bought a variety. You can keep the rest for later.] Seb replied.
Susan felt like crying but was also grateful. He had saved her the cost of pads for half a year.
[Okay, thank you.] She typed, then took the pads and ran to the bathroom.
After breakfast, Susan heard someone open the door and instinctively looked up.
Realizing she was supposed to be deaf, she quickly glanced at Seb. Luckily, he had already stood up and didn't notice her reaction.
George walked in with flowers, followed by Vivian.
George looked guilty, while Vivian's eyes showed disdain. She was probably dragged here by George.
Susan had only met Vivian once but could tell she was strong-willed and proud. Apologizing wasn't her thing, especially to someone like Susan.
"What are you doing here?" Seb asked, clearly displeased.
His voice was loud, making Susan shudder and quickly lower her head.
"We came to see Susan," George said, glancing at Vivian, who remained expressionless.
"She doesn't need you here. George, you're a lawyer; you should know if Susan's deafness is permanent, then Vivian will be criminally liable," Seb said seriously.
Vivian's expression changed slightly, and George looked dejected. He tried to speak more softly, "Susan's condition is still unclear. If anything happens, we'll take full responsibility."
"Take full responsibility? How?" Seb glared at them.
"We'll cover all medical expenses and provide compensation for emotional distress. I mean, if Susan's deafness is temporary," George said, looking at Susan.
