Chapter 175 The New Job
In the end, even her once-friendly colleagues started avoiding her, claiming she had connections. This left Susan really upset.
After a few tough days, Susan decided to quit.
When she handed her resignation letter to Adrian, he was shocked and quickly asked, "Susan, is it because our benefits aren't good enough? Your salary is already pretty high. Look at Maiken, working hard every day leading tours, and she doesn't earn as much as you."
Susan quickly replied, "Boss, it's not about the benefits; it's personal."
"What personal reasons? We really need you here. Ever since your friend helped us, the tourism bureau has treated us better. Other agencies are envious. If you leave, what will happen to us?" Adrian looked desperate, almost begging her to stay.
Susan felt a bit annoyed but, knowing Adrian had been good to her, she patiently said, "Boss, I really can't stay. I'm sorry. Please find someone else; I have to leave next week."
Seeing she was determined, Adrian sighed, "If you must go, I can't stop you. But could you at least ask your friend to help us out? Just say we're his relatives?"
Susan frowned. How could she ask George for help? They had agreed not to stay in touch.
"Susan, we've had a good working relationship these past two months. For the sake of me and my wife treating you well, can you help us out?" Adrian almost pleaded.
Wanting to end the conversation quickly, Susan reluctantly nodded, "I'll give him a call and try."
"Okay." Adrian was visibly relieved.
Leaving Adrian's office, Susan felt distressed. She looked at her new phone, unsure what to do.
A few days ago, she received a package with a watch and a new phone inside, but no return address. She wanted to return it, but the courier said it couldn't be done without a record.
Susan worried about the package for two days, suspecting it was from George or Seb. It couldn't be Seb; he was now with Cynthia and wouldn't think of her. So, it was likely George, who knew her phone and watch were damaged during their fight.
Susan wanted to call and ask, but she had deleted George's number. She could contact Maria for it, but that would mean indirectly getting back in touch with George.
'Who knows what issues that could cause? It might even make Maria misunderstand my relationship with George,' she thought.
So, she decided to ignore it all. That way, no one could affect her.
The watch in the package was worth a few thousand dollars. George could afford a better one, but he probably chose a modest one to avoid her rejecting it.
In the end, Susan put the watch away with its packaging. Her own phone had stopped working, so she used the new one.
Looking at the new phone, Susan felt lost for a moment. After some thought, she put it in her pocket and decided to deal with Adrian's request later. After all, his travel agency had managed for years without any connections.
A week later, Susan successfully resigned and started job hunting again.
This time, with a CPA certificate, she aimed for accounting firms or large companies.
After a week of searching, Susan landed a job at a reputable accounting firm.
The boss, Jessica Green, was a beautiful woman in her thirties with strong business and social skills. After a month, Susan practically idolized her.
Susan had once dreamed of starting her own accounting firm, but without experience, connections, and financial support, it seemed impossible.
With spring's arrival, Susan shed her winter clothes. Her black professional suit couldn't hide her youthful beauty. After a few months, she had transformed.
At this company, Susan learned a lot, both in business and social skills. She poured all her energy into her work.
The hurt caused by Seb gradually healed, and Susan became lively again.
Her hard work paid off. Although she hadn't been at Jessica's firm long, she earned Jessica's appreciation, making her work even smoother.
One afternoon, Susan was at her computer when she suddenly sneezed more than ten times, and her nose was running badly. The trash can under her desk was almost full of tissues.
Jessica came in with some files and, seeing Susan's frowning face, asked with concern, "Susan, your cold is getting worse. Have you taken any medicine?"
"I have, but this flu is really strong, so the medicine isn't working," Susan said, grabbing another tissue and sneezing.
Seeing this, Jessica frowned and said, "Alright, stop working. Hand over your tasks to Morgan Reese and go to the hospital. You can't go on like this."
With that, Jessica forcibly closed the account book in front of Susan.
At this point, Susan couldn't hold on any longer. She got up, grabbed her bag, and said, "Ms. Green, I'll go to the hospital now to get some medicine."
"Don't come back this afternoon. Rest well at home," Jessica smiled.
