Chapter 269 She Can Only Forgive

Susan stormed out, walking until she couldn't go any further.

She sat by the roadside, feeling tired and cold, staring at the distant river.

Night had fallen, and the lights from homes twinkled like stars.

Everyone had a place to call home, but Susan felt incredibly lonely. She'd never had a real home or a sense of belonging.

She was about to marry George and finally have a home, but now she was unsure what to do.

After sitting for a while, her phone rang.

Luckily, she had grabbed a coat and her phone before leaving.

She thought it was George, but it was Isabella.

Trying to maintain a semblance of calm, Susan answered, "Why are you calling me now?"

"Where are you?" Isabella sounded worried.

Susan looked around and said, "Just out for a walk."

Isabella's voice came through loud and clear. "Did you have a spat with George? You're getting married soon, and you're acting like a kid. Tell me where you are, and I'll come get you."

Susan had to pull the phone away from her ear due to Isabella's intensity.

After Isabella finished, Susan said, "No need, I'm on my way back as we speak."

She missed Spring and didn't want her to cry.

She and George had come this far; the wedding was set. What else could she do? She had to go through with it.

"Come back right away. You're an adult now, stop making us worry. George called me earlier, and he was almost in tears!" Isabella complained.

Susan felt touched. George's concern was genuine. Despite his infuriating methods, he truly cared for Spring and her. 'Maybe I should forgive him; everyone makes mistakes,' she thought.

"What did you two fight about?" Isabella asked.

Susan hesitated, then said, "Just a small thing. I was in a bad mood and took it out on him."

She took the blame. George had been good to her, and she didn't want to tarnish his reputation.

"George is always so good to you. When he said you fought, I knew it was your fault. Where else will you find such a great guy? You have two kids, and George hasn't complained. Look at me, no one wants to be with me because I have a sick mother. Men are realistic these days. Cherish your happiness, okay?" Isabella advised.

By the end, Susan was getting a bit impatient. She snapped, "Your nagging probably scares off any guy interested in you!"

"Hey, are you really my bestie? I'm trying to help you, and you just rub salt in my wounds!" Isabella's voice turned dejected.

"Alright, I misspoke, okay?" Susan quickly backtracked. Isabella was over thirty and really wanted to get married.

"Well, George owes me a big favor. Now hurry back and don't make him worry." Isabella gave a few more instructions before hanging up.

Susan stood up, looked at the rushing river for a moment, then reluctantly headed home.

More than half an hour later, as soon as Susan reached the entrance of the community, someone grabbed her arm.

"Susan, where did you go? Do you know how worried I was?" George pulled her into his arms, his voice full of emotion.

Susan could feel the urgency and fear in George's tone. She frowned but stayed silent.

After a few fleeting seconds, George carefully released her, his tone urgent. "Susan, you can punish me in any way you see fit, but please don't vanish like that again. It's late, and Spring is in tears back at home, searching for you. I was so frantic I almost dialed the police!"

Seeing the worry in George's eyes, Susan's heart softened.

Maybe George was wrong, but his love for her and Spring was undeniable. Whenever Spring's name was brought up, Susan felt a strong pull to return promptly.

"Let's go back and see Spring," Susan said.

"Alright." George, relieved that Susan wasn't upset anymore, held her hand and headed home.

As soon as they entered the house, Susan heard Spring crying.

She quickly walked over to Spring and took her from Serenity's arms.

"Mommy!" Spring called out repeatedly.

As Spring uttered the word "Mommy," Susan's heart felt like it was on the verge of shattering. The tears glistening on Spring's cheeks only intensified Susan's overwhelming sense of guilt.

She was a mother. No matter what, she couldn't leave Spring and run out!

"Spring, I'm sorry I'm late," Susan said, her eyes red as she hugged Spring and choked up.

Seeing Susan like this, George put his hand on her shoulder. Serenity, sensing the atmosphere, tactfully stepped aside.

Spring's little hand reached into Susan's shirt, a silent request for nourishment. Without hesitation, she unbuttoned her shirt.

As Spring began nursing, a tranquility enveloped her, clinging snugly to Susan. With each swallow of milk, Susan's maternal instincts surged forth, a profound connection binding them in that tender moment.
