Chapter 1158 Provocation

The ward was silent, Cecilia lay on the hospital bed, looking lifeless, her eyes staring blankly at the ceiling.

Freya sat by the bed, looking worried, holding food in her hands. No matter how much she tried to persuade, Cecilia refused to eat.

Cecilia suddenly felt that life was too hard. For so many years, she had studied hard, hoping to change her family's and her own life, hoping to find a man who loved her and whom she loved, and then build a happy family and have a beautiful, healthy baby.

But all of this shattered with the loss of the baby in her womb.

Despite being an excellent student for so many years, she ended up selling her dignity to improve Rainey and Quentin's life; she thought she had met someone who loved her and whom she loved, but God played a cruel joke on her; she thought her only hope was her baby, but even that was gone.

This blow was too much for the usually strong Cecilia to bear. Maybe death could end all this misfortune.

In a daze, Cecilia heard a series of faint footsteps. The sound was familiar, but Cecilia didn't want to pay attention.

From the moment Daryl stepped into the ward, his eyes never left Cecilia lying on the bed.

Her face was pale, her brows furrowed, and her eyes were as lifeless as ashes.

Seeing Cecilia like this, Daryl felt a sharp pain in his heart.

At this moment, Freya saw Daryl and seemed to see hope. She looked down at the food in her hands, the meaning clear: she was powerless and could only rely on Daryl to persuade Cecilia.

Daryl gave Freya a look, and Freya placed the food on the bedside table and turned to leave the ward.

Douglas deliberately left the ward door open, then pulled Freya and said, "You've had a hard time these past few days. Let me treat you to some coffee!"

"Treat me to coffee? Douglas, you don't have any ulterior motives, do you? I'm a married woman with kids; I won't mess around!" Hearing Douglas' invitation, Freya hesitated for a moment, then crossed her arms over her ample breast and stared at Douglas with a look of horror.

Hearing this, Douglas almost gagged.

"What's on your mind?" Douglas was speechless.

Douglas glanced at the open ward door, frowned, and said, "I have no ulterior motives, just want to chat. How about I treat you to a burger instead?"

"A burger? Won't that make me fat?" Freya frowned.

In the end, Douglas had no choice but to drag Freya away. "A little more weight is okay!"

"What do you mean?" Freya asked.

"Nothing, I'll get you a double portion." Douglas laughed.

Daryl walked to the bedside, looking at Cecilia with eyes full of pity.

At this moment, he wanted to use his big hand to caress her pale cheek.

But he couldn't.

He could only clench his hand into a fist.

"Are you planning to die with the baby?" Daryl pulled at his lips and finally said something cold.

Hearing this, Cecilia's eyes lifted, and seeing Daryl, she was stunned for a moment, then sneered. "Are you here to blame me? But even if you are, it's useless. The baby is gone, and as for me, you can do whatever you want. I don't want to live anyway!"

Hearing this, Daryl's brows furrowed even tighter.

After hesitating for a moment, he raised his voice and said, "Do you think I'll be sad if you die? Let me tell you, even if you die now, I won't shed a single tear. Don't use death to threaten me!"

Hearing this, Cecilia stared at Daryl in disbelief.

Although she knew she wasn't Daryl's true love, they did have some affection for each other. She didn't expect him to say such heartless words.

Cecilia stared at Daryl with unfamiliar eyes and finally said sadly, "Daryl, am I just a tool for you to have a baby? Am I nothing to you?"

Daryl's eyes met Cecilia's swollen ones, his gaze complex, with a hint of moisture.

Quickly, Daryl turned his face away and said coldly, "Yes."

Hearing this, tears streamed down Cecilia's eyes.

She didn't expect Daryl to be so heartless. After her miscarriage, she was of no value to him.

For a moment, Cecilia mocked herself, 'This is the man I loved, yet he hurts me the most.'

The next moment, Cecilia stared out the window and said, "The baby is gone, and we have no ties left. You don't have to act so viciously. Don't worry, I won't cling to you!"

"That's for the best," Daryl said, but his hand in his sleeve was clenched tightly.

Cecilia said expressionlessly, "You can go now. I'll take my things from your house as soon as possible, and you can let Freya go too."

Since there were no more ties, it had to be a clean break.

At this moment, Daryl stared at Cecilia and said, "I'm not that heartless. You were pregnant with my child. I'll cover your housing, maid, medical, and nutrition expenses while you recover."

Hearing this, Cecilia sneered. "Daryl, I accept your kindness. Once I'm discharged, we'll be done!"

"That's for the best," Daryl said, giving Cecilia a deep look before turning to leave.

When Daryl reached the door, he stopped. "You better move on because your body is your own. It's not worth it for you to ruin your body for someone like me to have a baby."

After saying that, Daryl left the ward.

After Daryl left, Cecilia's eyes were still wet.

She used to think Daryl was just emotionally unfaithful, domineering, and self-righteous. She didn't expect him to be so cold. At this moment, Cecilia thought she must have been blind to fall in love with such a man.

After crying, Cecilia wiped her tears.

She knew she couldn't continue to be depressed and self-destructive. Daryl wouldn't pity her; he would think she deserved it.

Daryl was right; her body and life were her own, and she had to take care of herself.

Then, Cecilia put on her shoes and went to the bathroom to freshen up.
