Chapter 342 Forgot to Knock

"Mary, where's Spring at?" Susan shot a glance at the bedroom door, all shut tight.

"Spring just knocked out," Mary replied, knowing Susan was here for the kid. She quickly swung the door open.

Susan didn't bother with more chit-chat. She gave Mary a nod and stepped into the room.

Spring was out cold on a tiny bed, her pudgy little body wrapped in a thin pink blanket with cartoons all over it. Her chubby cheeks and long lashes made her look like a living doll.

Seeing Spring snoozing so peacefully, Susan felt a wave of relief wash over her.

Now, Susan really got how tough being a mom was, especially when her kiddo cried for her. It tore her up inside!

She reached out and gently touched Spring's cheek, feeling her tension ease up.

Just then, Seb snuck up behind Susan, also smiling down at the sleeping Spring.

Susan sensed someone behind her and turned to find Seb standing super close.

Her heart did a little flip, and she nervously tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. She noticed Mary walking in and, trying to break the awkwardness, smiled and asked, "Mary, has Spring been a handful these past few days without me around?"

Mary was about to answer when Seb, standing behind Susan, touched his nose and shot Mary a look.

Mary had never seen Seb give her a look like that. She'd been taking care of Hayden and Spring for years and knew Seb as a quiet, stern guy who loved the kids but rarely talked to her.

Mary was a bit thrown off, worried about saying the wrong thing, so she kept her eyes on Seb, unsure of what to say.

Seeing Mary's hesitation, Susan turned and saw Seb giving Mary the look. She couldn't help but frown.

Susan then realized Seb might be pulling a fast one on her because Spring was already tight with Mary. Sometimes when Susan was swamped with work, she'd let Mary handle Spring for a few days, and the kid wouldn't even fuss.

Feeling duped, Susan gritted her teeth. If Mary wasn't there, she would've blown up right then and there.

Seb noticed Susan's anger and felt a bit lost. Mary also looked at him, confused.

Finally, Seb waved at Mary and said, "I mean, just tell the truth!"

Mary quickly said, "Ms. Wilson, Spring's been calling for you these past couple of days. She hasn't been too fussy, but she's been a bit down. Luckily, Hayden's been cheering her up. He's such a good big brother!"

Hearing this, Susan felt like she got the real scoop.

She smiled at Mary and said, "Thanks, Mary, for taking such good care of my kids."

"It's my job. Plus, I've been with Hayden and Spring for so long, I really love these two," Mary said, blushing.

Seeing Susan's anger fade, Seb grinned and said, "Spring's asleep. Let's not wake her. I'll show you the room upstairs."

Susan frowned but didn't argue since Mary was there. She followed Seb out of the room.

Seb headed upstairs first, with Susan trailing behind.

Once they were up there, Susan blurted out, "I'd better stay downstairs with Spring."

Seb chuckled and said, "Who said you can't stay with Spring?"

Seeing the playful glint in Seb's eyes, Susan's cheeks turned bright red.

She realized her words were kinda misleading. What she meant was she didn't want to stay upstairs; she wanted to be downstairs. She knew Seb's bedroom and study were up here, which could get awkward. But in her rush, she said something that Seb could totally twist into her wanting to stay with him.

"I mean, it's better if I stay downstairs with Spring," Susan clarified, flustered.

Seb, still smiling, explained, "There are only three rooms downstairs. One's Kathy's, one's Mary's, and the other's Hayden's. No extra room!"

Susan quickly said, "I can bunk with Hayden and Spring."

"How's a kid's bed gonna fit all three of you? Plus, Hayden's only been sleeping on his own for six months. He's just getting used to it. If you do this, it'll mess with his independence," Seb said earnestly.

Susan knew Seb was hinting she should stay in the upstairs guest room, but she couldn't deny he had a point.

After a moment of hesitation, Susan thought, 'Alright, just listen to Seb .'

Seeing Susan's silence, Seb took it as a yes and pointed to the three rooms upstairs, saying, "This is my bedroom; this is my study, and that's the guest room. You can stay there."

Susan noticed the guest room was the farthest one, with Seb's bedroom separated by the study, which made her feel more comfortable.

"I'll show you around. The bedding and blankets are all brand new," Seb offered.

Susan quickly waved her hand and said, "No need, I'll check it out myself. You go do your thing."

With that, Susan headed straight to the innermost bedroom, opened the door, and went in, closing it behind her.

Leaning against the door, Susan took a deep breath.

Today felt like a whirlwind. So much had happened, and now she was staying at Seb's place. Thinking about it, she felt a bit like she'd walked into Seb's trap.

But given the situation, Susan had no better option. It was too late for regrets. At least here, she could see Spring and Hayden every day, and she was safe. She couldn't think about anything else.

Realizing she needed to call Isabella to bring her some clothes and stuff, Susan pulled out her phone, only to find it dead.

She hadn't brought a charger and couldn't find one in the room.

With no other choice, Susan decided to borrow one from Seb.

She turned and walked out, heading straight to Seb's bedroom door. In her haste, she forgot to knock and just pushed the door open!

As soon as she walked in, she saw a shirtless Seb with his belt undone, showing off his muscular frame.
