Chapter 1327 I Will Come No Matter What

Thaddeus's heart-wrenching cries made Cecilia feel awful, and the sharp pain in her chest only made it worse. She couldn't help but shed a few tears.

How did she end up in this mess? Her son, whom she had gone through so much to bring into the world, had to be hidden away. She, who had done nothing wrong, was now burdened with a tarnished reputation, and the person she loved now looked at her with disdain.

Cecilia's heart was filled with sorrow and grievance, and tears streamed down her face.

But she knew she couldn't fall apart. She had to be strong and face everything head-on. Thaddeus was still just a baby. If she didn't stay strong, who would take care of him? Who would provide him with a safe haven?

So, Cecilia immediately wiped her tears away with the back of her hand and, with a slightly hoarse voice, tried to soothe Thaddeus. "Thaddeus, be good. Mommy will be back soon. Tonight, you'll sleep with Freya, okay? How about Mommy sings you a lullaby?"

Thaddeus might not fully understand Cecilia's words, but he recognized her voice, and his cries began to subside.

Cecilia then held her chest and started singing into the phone.

As she sang, tears once again filled her eyes, but she kept wiping them away, trying to keep her voice steady and free of sobs.

Her singing worked, and Thaddeus finally quieted down.

Half an hour later, Cecilia's voice was hoarse, and Freya's voice came through the phone. "Mrs. Fields, you can stop now. Thaddeus is asleep."

Hearing this, Cecilia breathed a sigh of relief and instructed, "Freya, please take good care of Thaddeus. I'll try to be back by tomorrow night."

"Don't worry, Mrs. Fields," Freya replied before hanging up.

After putting down the phone, Cecilia leaned wearily against the headboard, feeling a bit lighter now that Thaddeus was asleep.

But the pain in her chest was getting worse. Gritting her teeth against the needle-like pain, Cecilia picked up the breast pump and continued to pump milk.

She spent half the night pumping milk intermittently and finally fell asleep from exhaustion in the early hours.

When she woke up, Cecilia's eyes snapped open, and she saw that the sun was already high in the sky.

She glanced at her watch and saw it was almost eight o'clock. Ignoring the stabbing pain in her chest, she quickly got up to wash up.

The courthouse opened at eight-thirty, and she had agreed to meet Daryl there at that time.

The hotel was a half-hour cab ride from the courthouse, assuming there was no traffic, and she was already running late.

Cecilia didn't even have time for a sip of water, let alone breakfast. She quickly washed up, didn't bother with her ponytail, grabbed her purse, and rushed out of the hotel.

It was tough to get a cab during the morning rush hour. Cecilia stood on the street, frowning and keeping her eyes fixed on the passing taxis.

She had to finalize the divorce with Daryl today. She couldn't delay any longer. Thaddeus was waiting for her to come back, and she didn't want any more complications with Daryl. He had someone else now; it was time to let go.

Just as Cecilia got into a cab, her phone rang urgently from her bag.

"To the courthouse, please," she told the driver before pulling out her phone. She saw it was Daryl calling.

Seeing his number, Cecilia glanced at her watch. It was already 8:31.

She knew Daryl was calling to hurry her up, so she answered the phone immediately.

As soon as she picked up, Daryl's angry voice came through. "Cecilia, stop stalling. My time is valuable. Don't try any tricks. We're getting divorced today, and I won't change my mind!"

Hearing this, Cecilia felt a surge of anger. "Daryl, don't flatter yourself. I have no interest in dragging this out. It's rush hour, and cabs are hard to come by, but I'm already on my way. We'll get this divorce done today, no doubt about it!"

With that, she angrily hung up the phone.

The next moment, she looked up at the cab driver and said, "Please drive faster. I have a very urgent matter!"

The cab driver, having overheard her conversation, could only shake his head and say, "Miss, we have to take it one step at a time. This is a cab, not a plane. I can't just fly you there!"

Cecilia was frustrated and didn't respond to the driver, feeling a mix of annoyance and sorrow.

She thought, 'Daryl, did you really have to hurt me like this? We agreed to part ways amicably. Why can't we even speak civilly now that we're getting divorced?'

Twenty minutes later, the cab finally dropped Cecilia off at the courthouse.

After paying the fare, Cecilia got out of the cab, feeling light-headed and chilled to the bone.

She took a moment to steady herself, then pulled her thin coat tighter around her and hurried up the steps with her purse.

As she entered the courthouse lobby, she immediately spotted Daryl standing in the center, exuding an imposing presence.

Seeing her, Daryl frowned and checked his watch, his face darkening. "You're half an hour late. I thought you weren't coming."

Ignoring his snide remark, Cecilia retorted, "I was always going to come."

Daryl's veins bulged on his forehead, and he glared at her with a cold, piercing gaze.

His icy stare made Cecilia feel like she was plunged into a freezing abyss, her heart bleeding.

Turning her face away, she felt her whole body ache and said coldly, "Let's go. No point wasting time here."

With that, she walked towards the divorce counter.

Daryl followed, looking displeased.

There were quite a few people getting divorced that day. Cecilia took a number—38—and frowned. She needed to get this done quickly so she could catch a flight back.

Seeing the number in her hand, Daryl's eyes flashed. "We won't get through this morning. Come back in the afternoon."

With that, he turned to leave.

Come back in the afternoon? By the time they finished, it would be dark. The last flight from Maple Valley to the state capital was at 3 PM, and she wouldn't make it.

So, Cecilia urgently said, "No, we have to get it done this morning."
